My wife and I celebrated our 50th wedding this past Dec and I made sure this song was played because she will always be my little surfer girl... has been for over 50 year sept 9 1969 the day I met her

it's a tradition of playing the pop music of the day i wish more modern jazz musicians would still do, herbie hancock does it as well. Most of them just recycle what's already been done.

@@TheBassfresh in a far less exploratory way, Chet Atkins did this. And certainly jazz guitarists like Wes Montgomery, Gabor Szabo, Charlie Byrd did this in the 60s.

I caught Bill playing this song on a tv show, Carmine Street Guitars, playing one of Rick Kelly’s telecasters. I was so moved, that I tracked his recordings down. Bill plays with such innocence, it almost sounds simple…..but his presentation and interpretations take you on an unexpected journey…..to place that leaves you at peace in your space. If I were to be at one of his performances, I’d be the big guy in the back with tears running down his cheeks…..because his music would take me to a place I’d been before….but never with my heart so open.

I had never heard of him and saw him live at the Guelph Jazz Festival, in a church, improvising with some fabulous players from Chicago. I was the 5'11" guy sitting at his feet with tears in my eyes. Don't hesitate. See him.

at a sock hop back in 63 I was dancing with my GF and this song was played we were dancing close together and I fell in love not with her but the surfing craze I went out and bought a blue Pendleton, blue jeans and deck shoes just like the BB let my hair grow... got rid of the hair grease...when we camping at Pismo Beach, I rented a surfbroad and start a life time of surfing, the beach and The Beach Boys...long live their music....this is great cover just found him while surfing KZbin

Bill F. and Greg L. played a duo gig here in San Diego several years ago. One of the highlights for me, was Surfer Girl. It was just beautiful. I wound up buying a pedal steel because I was so amazed by it's sound. I still can't play the thing but I love to hear some one who can. Thanks for putting this out there!
