Bill Frisell is one of the most UNDERRATED guitarists. He plays SPACE much better than many play notes.

Hi, Thing that amazes me about Bill is he always looks like he’s about to blow the next note but always pulls it off like the consummate guitar player he is.

@@mexwieshofer7140 In what way? Is it the "classic" part that bothers you? In my first band surf songs seemed to be the easiest to learn.
@mexwieshofer71404 жыл бұрын
@@genez429 what i wanna say is, that its not the complexity of chords, or melodies that make a song. there's lots of surf songs that are quite complex but sound very simple. and there's songs with only two chords that are really hard to play and never sound quite right...

I totally dig Bill's venture into this stream of Americana with "Guitars in the Space Age". The guy can do it all. His playful and slightly mischievous spirit come through in all of his music. I dig it all.

I served Mr. Frisell his scrambled eggs at Seattle's Hi-Spot back in the day. Saw his "The Willies" combo and had a GREAT time. I just love Frisell's tone and his approach.
@adrianscally2 ай бұрын
That is very cool. He seems so incredibly, almost painfully, humble. Saw his trio last year, in a relative backwater in North-Eastern Spain and his whole interaction with the audience was 'Thank you. Tony Scher. Kenny Wolleson.' The rest was total music. Goddamn privilege. You served this man eggs? I need to know more.

I have been a surf music fan since the beginning. I may have heard every version of this tune ever recorded. It is nice to hear someone do a new take on a classic tune and actually add something unique and inventive. This just became one of my top three favorite versions of Pipeline. The top two will always be the original by The Chantays, and the cover by Agent Orange

Like all really-great guitarists -- Frisell's playing is always in service of the melody, the song. He almost never "shows off." The space between the notes is as important as the notes. And he has really good TONE. I put Frisell in a small group -- with Peter Green, JJ Cale, Mark Knopfler. But he really goes way beyond R&R -- into jazz, classical, almost every genre. Hell, he has 50 "main albums." BTW: I am in the process of adding Otis Taylor to my small group. Listen to his "Hey Joe Opus" to see why. He has a great body of work.

That's deranged! I have probably heard every version, every interpretation, and this tops them all. The personnel complement each other masterfully. Tone and effects are perfect, not overdone, just right. Wish I could get the name of the other musicians.
Greg Liesz is guitar player on left, long time accompanist with Bill, Bill even title a song after his namesake. Greg is a powerhouse studio player with countless other big names and also tours with Jackson Browne.
