Some really stupid and uneducated comments about stain removal on natural stone. That is not quartzite either. It may have some bands of quartzite but it's primarily dolomitic marble and will etch. Absolutely do not use bleach, magic eraser(abrasive), or goo gone. A mixture of poultice powder (511 makes a good one) and acetone is what I would use. Cover and let dry then scrape off with plastic putty knife. It will take several applications.

Try researching a stone poultice, you mix a solvent with flour and tape it off with plastic over top and as the flour dries the solvent pulls the stains out. It's the same way you can get oil stains out of stone. The solvent has to work on the stain type. There are varying degrees of aggressiveness with the solvent.

Hi Erin & Josh, I have worked with marble for many years. I know you can lift wine stains off marble. I'm not sure about ink. You could try this idea of your first one doesn't work. If you can get what we in Ireland call alibaster also called plaster. It's for making moulds like statues or ceiling mouldings. You put the plaster on the marble where the stain is, build it up around the edges like a birds nest. Pour water in and let the stain soak into the plaster. Leave it for a few hours then scrape the plaster away with a piece of wood. It won't scratch the marble. Hope you get it sorted. Love your two KZbin channels. All the best from Ireland. Michael.

The vanity looks great. I love the fact that Josh could turn the 2 negatives (no fittings, PVC cement gone bad) into a positive, even jokingly, and that Erin could laugh at it, too. It shows your indomitable spirit. I'm thinking you need a cover story in case the stain doesn't all come out. This Etruscan marble was quarried from beneath the site of a famous ancient battle between Etruria and Rome. Analysis has shown that the stain was from the armor of a defeated Etruscan. Corrosion from weathering seeped through the battle-churned soil, staining the underlying stone. The Smithsonian Museum has asked for the right of first refusal in the event you no longer want it. It could pay for Ellie's college, but you think it ties you to ancient humanity and simultaneously symbolizes the blood, sweat, and tears you have poured into making this home for your family.

I stained a whole 4,000 sq foot shop with copper sulfate and let it sit to soak in over a weekend. Beautiful aqua color. Really perfect. Never thinking that the Amish kids around me who never get to use their skates would descend in droves on this huge flat rink and leave tire tread marks all over it!! After a short period of agony, I said to myself “Self, you now have a permanent record of all the young people you love in your floor”. And it actually looks great. Totally unique like some huge abstract art piece. People have stopped by to ask how we did it. Maybe the fix is to give all your kids some markers and say “have at it”. (Just kidding- i hope the mfg can help). I ❤️ you all!!

Hello guys, great job, I was following your build from the scratch ! 👍 Hydrogen poroxid with saran wrap is used also to fix yellowing plastic inside RV back to white but the object wrapped needs to stay exposed directly into the sun in a plastic bag so the peroxid will not evaporate (in your case I think it is a must to seal the edges of the wrap) otherwise you need to install an UV lamp and leave it for 24h. Be aware not leave the kids inside once the UV lamp is on and ware UV protecting glasses to turn on/off the lamp ! Not sure if it is working also on other type of materials, you need to test...

Warm up the counter top surface with a blow dryer to open up the pores. Spray the stained area with WD-40. Let stand for a while to let it permeate. Wipe off the excess WD-40 and sprinkle the affected ares with baking soda, replacing it often with new to continuing soaking out the WD-40. It may take a few times but it will eventually wick out all the marker and cleaner.

Also he was stretching it to reach the pipe extension above. Never do that as it will want to return to original form thus slipping off the pipe above. Get a longer extender for the piece above. Other than that good job. When I did such for a living, we always put the faucets and drain in the countertop drain lift rod and all with it on saw horses to make it easy and then lift the top into place with it all attached. Leaving the lower connections for the tight places. Just made it easier. Tricks of the trade. Did not have to reach up between the bowl and the wall that way.
