You make me feel like I could do this all by myself without my husband being home. Me and the Sawsall are best friends. :) Hoping to do a bathroom remodel on the manufactured home we are buying some day soon.

Awesome video series - very helpful. You dumbed it down just enough for the average handyman, like myself, could understand.

In situations like yours I always close the hole permanently and refinish the drywall and paint. If You ever have to get to the shutoffs again in the future you will have to cut back into the wall again. Now, they do make plastic access panels that come in different sizes that you can install in your wall that enable you to access the plumbing shutoffs anytime. They are not to bad looking either...you can install them and paint them the color of the wall if you wall. Good luck w/ the project!

Yes of course! We only cut it into pieces because we had to get it out of the house from the 2nd floor bathroom. If your re installing yours just remove the unit and set it aside inside the bathroom until you finish your other project and then re install it. Eddie

FWIW, bi-metal reciprocating saw blades does not mean that they cut wood and/or metal. Bi-metal blades means that the blade is composed of two separate metals joined together. Instead of being a mixture of two or more metals, like alloys, bimetallic objects consist of layers of different metals.
@BathroomRemodelVideo10 жыл бұрын
In my business it means get-em because they cut both wood and metal easily! But thanks for the technical overview Mark...I did not know that! Just goes to show you learn something new everyday! Thanks for commenting. Eddie

You don't need to cut a hole in the wall. Just cut tub with sawzall around plumbing. Then you can access it.

Wish I had that kind of access, but to get to the back of the tub I'd have to take out my kitchen cabinets. Not gonna happen. Just have braille my way around to cut the water lines from the front.

Well done! I have a one piece fiberglass shower in the master bedroom that needs replaced. I look forward to the rest of the remodeling videos. As a side note, my shower head/supply pipes in my master bedroom are in the wall behind the toilet in the main bathroom. You cut a hole in a closet to access the water pipes. When I cut into my main bathroom wall, to gain access to the pipes, do you have any suggestions on how to tastefully cover up the hole but still leave an access to the pipes? Thanks

HI, thanks for the great vid. I have the exact same issue. Iwas wondering if you cut the drain pipe from the rear access, or pulled the tub right out breaking the drain pipe clear off.

How do you know that you're not cutting too deeply into the wood when sawing?
@BathroomRemodelVideo8 жыл бұрын
You can see where the studs are by looking at the locations that the surround is screwed to the studs along the flange perimeter. You can also "feel" the studs when you hit them with the blade. when you hit the wood just ease-up a bit and angle your blade so you your not cutting into the wall studs. Eddie

Hello! Yes we did take the drain and P-Trap apart from the backside of the tub wall. The P-Trap had your typical compression nut that we un-threaded so we could completely remove the Trap out of our road for the tub removal.

The shower I want to cut out is against an outside wall, so I'm not sure how to access to the Ptrap and waterlines . What would you suggest?
@BathroomRemodelVideo9 жыл бұрын
***** Carefully cut sections of the shower wall away from the shower faucet making sure you do not hit any water lines. Once you expose whats behind the shower panel you can pick up the pace and easily begin to quickly remove the rest of the shower as I did in the video. When you install you new shower you may want to reverse the plumbing for the new unit to either right or left hand unit so you can access the plumbing in the future from an interior wall. Hopw this helps. Eddie

I need to remove a 1 piece shower stall because there is a leak behind it. The floor drain is glued in to the pipe and not screwed in. Do I need to get a small cutting disc to cut the drain away from the inside of the pipe? This shower is on a 2nd floor so I cannot access it underneath.
@BathroomRemodelVideo9 жыл бұрын
Sid H Hi Sid! If you are removing and replacing the shower...Yes cut it out because you will be installing a new P-trap anyhow and this old plumbing under the shower pan will be replaced with new drain P-trap plumbing! Eddie.

don't you think it would be a good idea to wear a respirator when cutting fiberglass?
@BathroomRemodelVideo11 жыл бұрын
This was not a "fine dust" chore, but I suppose we could have worn one. After 30 years in the business you pretty much know when you really need to wear one and when it's probably OK not to. Good observation though Ken. Eddie

We put up the shower walls direct to stud with glue is there any way to get them off we need to lower and we didn't get them up right they've been sitting for several days now
@BathroomRemodelVideo8 жыл бұрын
Hi Sally! Glue! Uh oh! Was this a wall surround kit with "floppy" flat panels you glued to the studs? Or was this a 4 piece tub/shower fiberglass unit with just the nailing flange on it(like the one I tore out in this video)? The floppy plastic panels if they are glued with construction adhesive will probably never come off without cracking, You might get the "flange" type panels off if just the flange it glued, without cracking it. Eddie

Could you not have saved the tub surround and tub instead of cutting it up????????????????????
@BathroomRemodelVideo8 жыл бұрын
No because you could never have gotten it out of the bathroom door or window, it's a one-piece tub/shower and was installed when the house was built before any doors or windows were installed so they could easily get it to the bathroom location back then...but now it's never coming back-out the way way it came in. So we had to cut it up into to get it of the house! Eddie
