Roger, can you do a video on different silicone's as I've to remove my newly installed walkin shower screen due to crap silicone I was sold in the local hardware. I myself done a test with the crap everbuild silicone, dow silicone and unibond silicone, where I put a 4inch line of each on a scrap tile and tried to remove them, 1st place dow, 2nd unibond, 3rd everbuild which I managed to pull off like a plaster!
@SkillBuilder4 жыл бұрын
Never rely on silicone, it will let you down eventually. We use a waterproof tape called No More Leaks which comes in the installation kit. You will never get it off. We then have the tile and then silicone but if that fails the water finds its way into the trap.

Looks great Roger! The Abacus hardware certainly looks like it's made to last, with high quality materials and lots of adjustment. I noticed the lever valves inside the wall... can these be accessed from an inspection panel? Also, I wondered what a ballpark cost for a bathroom like this is, less the labour?
@SkillBuilder4 жыл бұрын
Edward We will get the price for the kit this week. As for access, I hate the panels. These valves are accessed by sliding out the shelf. That is what I try to do but sometimes it is necessary to take the cupboard out if there is no shelf. Better still is to put them in the airing cupboard.

Great vid, and because of these videos I have a infinity shower tray ready to install, in previous videos you tiled straight onto the plastic upstand but in this video its set back is there not a risk the bottom of the tile is now unsupported or does the tiler pack the gap with tile adhesive? also am I right in thinking you've cut the bottom from the 12mm backer boards and then placed in 6mm?
@SkillBuilder4 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike That is correct. It is a bit of 12mm and a lower strip of 6mm. There are lots of ways of doing this so don't worry too much about following this method. When I placed the upstand against the 12mm board the tiler then dot and dabbed the tiles out which made them tight on the shower valve depth. I decided that this idea would be better because he wouldn't have to bring the tiles out. You are right about the unsupported tile but it is easy enough to put some thin strips in to support it or ,like you say, some adhesive. It only needs some dabs to support it.

Very nice Rodger,two things what is the difference in floor levels because of the build up, and is this a mock-up for a showroom or a training college. 😁
@SkillBuilder4 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark The floor level from the door is only the 9mm board and the tiles. It usually comes out about right if the house has carpet and underlay. This is a set we built for the video because we couldn't flim it with a wall in the way. We have filmed in bathrooms and will do again when we get a big room and a friendly customer but in this instance we wanted it to be in a more modest room so we bit the bullet and built the whole corner set, installed the bathroom and then ripped it all out again after the shoot. That's show biz.

What sort of minimum sizes of room are we looking at for the prewall setup? Our bathroom is around 2m x 1.8m and I'd love to have something like. The clean lines would make it look bigger I think.
@SkillBuilder4 жыл бұрын
This room was about 2.4 x 2.0 metres. It all depends on the soil pipe. If it goes straight out through the wall you can get away with 150mm of pre-wall. If you have an 800mm wide shower then you have roughly 500mm for the basin and another 500mm for the w.c. That is tight but it will work.
