Question? Is it less expensive to do the glass oneself vs just having the glass co do it all?
@nobleroofinggeneralcontrac79613 жыл бұрын
if it is I will buy that course

Oh definitely. In my experience it’s been double what the glass costs to have installed. This enclosure was about $1,500 for everything. Most places would charge a minimum of $3k (materials included). So you can afford to screw up and still be way under 👍

My glass company (Shower Door Specialties-Seattle) said they would reduce the price $380.00 for a self install. This was 2 walls of glass with a notch (knee wall).

The dreaded 1/8” 😆. I still have a lot of glass sitting in my garage because of that, 😆 Thanks 🙏

I’m a professional glazier and install many showers everyday. I want to be a little more clear then he’s being. If you are an individual and not a company, it is going to be very hard for you to find a manufacturer that will make the glass for you at the same cost as a glazing company. I specifically have a registered business with these manufacturers so that I get it at a low cost. There are so many ways that you can mess up installing a frameless shower or semi frameless shower. Just to install the shower your going to have to buy the necessary tools and also know how to install the hardware or make any adjustments. Very rarely do I go to an install where the walls are level and if it’s not you must make the proper deductions. 1/4 1/16 1/8 1/2 etc. I know your trying to get views and I respect that but the most honest truth I can give you people that are interested in getting a frameless shower is to hire a professional that knows what they’re doing. Profit margins aren’t near what you think for the company you hire. We only charge a $450 install fee for labor and make about $500 off the glass. So thats $950 profit for going out and measuring, taking all of the risks, communicating with the manufacturer, and installing. Or the other route would be to buy all of the glass, hardware, tools you need, and then mess up on measurements or break it installing or have an out of square shower and end up losing tons of money only to not have a frameless shower at all. Good luck to anyone trying this but I would highly advise you don’t do it yourself. Hire a professional.

You won’t see me posting videos for the sake of views 😆 I’m not just a “digital creator” 😆 but I fully understand your stance here and makes total sense. My feeling is a lot of tile installers can do this job. If they are precise enough to a lot of this intricate tile work, they can do glass. Not saying I still don’t have extra mis measures in my garage or anything 😆 Great points though 👍

Your points are valid to a certain extent but the bottom line is without any doubt anyone who has made it to middle school has the knowledge to do this if they take their time and reference this video and the related videos. Its just not that hard if you take your time and triple check your measurements. Any issue you mention is very, very easily mitigated by let me say it again taking your time, triple check everything especially if you're a DIY person. You mention nothing more then basic elementary problem solving.

I'd go thinner on the glass to make it easier to handle, and easier to have a wheelchair-accessible shower door width.
