I agree with MrAna811, I installed my spa 15 years ago but used lots of tubes of silcone stuff instead of cement. It costs more, but gives a better bond between the surfaces,good support, doesn't crack and crumble and is still in place. :)

I spoke with several Spa makers, they all recommended using mortar or fine concrete. Every maker was against using foam. One of Kohler customer reps said my Whirlpool tub would not be under warranty with foam. Lays plastic between concrete & tub to be able to remove for repair. If u have the ability to bold down the tub all way around that be fine in place of cement, but few tubs have that ability to do so. A tub expands when filling but expansion depends on quality of tub walls.
@johnovink582811 жыл бұрын
shouldn't you tile the top before setting the tub? especially with oval tubs.
@alexanderalex10638 жыл бұрын
1. You can see that there is clear coat plastic in the tub for the "stomping". 2. This looks to be in the top-out phase of construction and most likely track home construction(fast, deadlines, etc.) if not definitely new ground up project. 3. You will never know someone was mixing concrete in the garage when this project is over. they did everything they were suppose to. now just protect with some card board and plastic. Good job on the install guys.

Ah yes, maybe protection should have been used before stomping in the tub. But hey, I didn't see any of you guys grumbling about it making a video on how to install a tub. Maybe just take what ever you can that is positive, and not be so critical of others trying to put something out there to help other people. There is not a lot out there on this subject. Thanks for making the video guys. I was looking for information on how to build the support around the tub. This was helpful to look at.

Key issues down the track : 1. Rotting timber- untreated timber used, no waterproofing membrane or tile installed underneath the tub. You always rely on physical barriers first and chemical (silicon in this instance) second/combination 2. Thin Plastic cover does not stop grains of sand & small rock under boots to destroy new the polished surface especially acrylic one. Cleaning difficulties later on. Use of smooth grout mixed to firm paste is the way to go. Better option to use galvanised steel frame with adjustable legs. In this instance cost/time vs future longevity of the product and your bath overall.

Lmao. Some people really do come from the shallow end of the gene pool. All the comments about him stomping in the tub getting it dirty and some saying they added plastic AFTER he got it dirty. Hey geniuses, the plastic in the tub is put there by the manufacturer to protect the tub in shipping and during installation. The plastic was there the whole time! And all the stomping freaks, this tub is made of hard plastic reinforced with thick fiberglass, it can take a beating. Those that don't work in the construction business and have no clue how it's done probably shouldn't make comments. They say it doesn't take a rocket scientist to do it. I dunno, it might with some of you here because you obviously lack even basic construction knowledge.

I install these add Im a mason and the mortar was WAY TO THICK . Like laying a block tub should just slowly settles in Add we DONT use mortar Use structolite!!! base plaster
@williemurray10233 жыл бұрын
Maybe things have changed but the installation manual that came with my Jason 2 person jacuzzi says a dry mortar mix. You don't want the tub squishing the mortar out. Its to hold the weight of the entire thing. If it settles too low, then the weight ends up at the rim on the wooden surround. That's no bueno.

I cannot believe they think the best way to level and place is for that man to get in and stomp that bathtub with boots on! If they were working for me, they would have just been fired!!!!!!!
@MrCougar2146 жыл бұрын
Maybe you should learn construction work before making comments. First, the bottom inside of the tub is covered in thick plastic to protect it from scratching. Second, they are laying a dry mortar bed so the tub will sit flat, solid, and stable. Dry Mortar, unlike wet mortar that flows like wet cement, doesn't flow. You have to use some force to get the tub in place and sitting right. You can't do this first because the mortar bed needs to contour to the shape of the tub. And lastly, the tub is made of plastic reinforced with thick fiberglass. It can take a beating. After 8 years I hope you learned something. If not I hope you don't do your own remodeling.

MrCougar214 after initially stomping, could you fill it with water to set the shape?
@inkwyvern51714 жыл бұрын
The wooden frame is already level and they're just stomping the tub to the wood where it will rest. They're not as heavy as you, so sitting in the tub won't push it through setting cement, they need to apply force.

Auzie Ali how would you remove the tub if it is now cemented in place
@williemurray10233 жыл бұрын
The stomping was to get the rim to set against the top of the frame. Thus leveling the tub (presuming the wooden surround is in fact level). The bottom is supported by the dry mortar mix.
@williemurray10233 жыл бұрын
@@hallnoats4ever its not cemented really. The mortar is mixed so dry that its unlikely it will stick to the tub, and it won't stick to the subflooring because of the mat they laid down. Sure. It'll be a big 90 lb lump to lug out of thwere, but not that big of a deal really.

If you fill it with water the mortar is too thick. It needs the time to cure without instructions. Of you fill it with water it will lower the mortar this creating a gap when empty insuring the mortar will bust/break prematurely.
