Your attention to detail and how the little things the average homeowner wouldn't notice, you still would rather take it apart and redo it speaks VOLUMES about the pride you take in your work. I applaud you for being a man of integrity. These are the things your son will remember as well

I couldn't tell from the thumbnail. So I was happy to see you use treated lumber on the bottom of the tub frame. I have seen too many jobs where treated lumber wasn't used.

Treated lumber is not great, it shrinks and warps unless you treat it yourself or buy the better quality stuff. But if you expect water, water proof it and protect it.

I would kilz oil based everything in a water area because mold grows on porous surfaces, if everything wood and drywall is sealed mold and mildew has very hard time existing... Not required, but under the principles of doing something like building a shower area, one will want to not do it multiple times because failure... Mostly do it yourself home owners will appreciate the extra step to prevention along with craftsmanship puts another star in quality...

Can I use 1/2 or 3/4 treated plywood instead of boards so i can tile around a roman tub? I made a deck with treated wood. But I don’t know if I can tile over it. I live in puerto rico and many type of boards arent readily available since we dont have winter like in the states but what options do i have to cover the deck for tiling? I would greatly appreciate advice.✨

Just an amateur DIYer myself, but curious if it would've made things easier for you to make the floor level using leveling compound? Any reasons why that wouldn't have been a good idea to start with before your other work?
@StudPack
@StudPack 3 жыл бұрын
Yes that would have worked well. I guess I'm trying to minimize the amount of material I have to buy but weighing that against extra time spent framing on out of level floor... probably a wash? Not sure.
@TheRaker1000
@TheRaker1000 3 жыл бұрын
I'm just a DIYer, too, but I would think there are a few considerations for that: How long would it take for the leveling compound to cure so you could build on it? It might be faster to just make the cut adjustments like he did than to wait for the compound to dry, which wouldn't matter to a home owner, but he's a hired guy who wants the job done so he can go home. Would a thin layer of level compound support all that tub weight as effectively as the thick slab that's already cured for years? It's not like leveling under tile, where the floor spreads evenly over the whole surface; you've got all the weight concentrated on the floorplates, so it might crumble under there.

@@stich1960 I wrote this comment when I first started watching stud pack videos. I made the mistake of putting him at the same level as his father which led to me to say what I said above. The more I watch there video series the more I realize construction just ain’t his bag, he seems to b more into the video editing and finds his joy there as opposed to bettering his craftsmanship. That’s fine and I respect that which led me to lay off of the stern constructive criticism to begin with.

This is not network "reality TV " where they have to write script full of extra drama where people fight over trivialities constantly. They are a youtube channel team and this is their style. Good craftsmanship and great info, and if the son pipes up with "nice job" and "looks perfect", he's just adding his positivity to the mood of the channel.

Questioning how you arrived at deck height? After tile tub will be 1 to 1 1/2 8nches higher. What will you do to support the bottom of tub? The tub I am working with says not to install without bottom support, not to let tub hang. Just curious for the project I am planning
