I would kilz oil based everything in a water area because mold grows on porous surfaces, if everything wood and drywall is sealed mold and mildew has very hard time existing... Not required, but under the principles of doing something like building a shower area, one will want to not do it multiple times because failure... Mostly do it yourself home owners will appreciate the extra step to prevention along with craftsmanship puts another star in quality...

Just an amateur DIYer myself, but curious if it would've made things easier for you to make the floor level using leveling compound? Any reasons why that wouldn't have been a good idea to start with before your other work?
@StudPack3 жыл бұрын
Yes that would have worked well. I guess I'm trying to minimize the amount of material I have to buy but weighing that against extra time spent framing on out of level floor... probably a wash? Not sure.
@TheRaker10003 жыл бұрын
I'm just a DIYer, too, but I would think there are a few considerations for that: How long would it take for the leveling compound to cure so you could build on it? It might be faster to just make the cut adjustments like he did than to wait for the compound to dry, which wouldn't matter to a home owner, but he's a hired guy who wants the job done so he can go home. Would a thin layer of level compound support all that tub weight as effectively as the thick slab that's already cured for years? It's not like leveling under tile, where the floor spreads evenly over the whole surface; you've got all the weight concentrated on the floorplates, so it might crumble under there.

@@stich1960 I wrote this comment when I first started watching stud pack videos. I made the mistake of putting him at the same level as his father which led to me to say what I said above. The more I watch there video series the more I realize construction just ain’t his bag, he seems to b more into the video editing and finds his joy there as opposed to bettering his craftsmanship. That’s fine and I respect that which led me to lay off of the stern constructive criticism to begin with.
