Gr8 Stuff fm John French Reminiscing about 1969, when he was in an Alfa Romeo and Crashed on The 1st Lap. Amazingly, Dick Johnson emerged from the Crowd and rescued him. Amazing Story and Dick made His Bathurst Debut the Next Year in a Holden Torana LC GTR.

1:39:47 I really love the old long shot of cars going down Conrod, todays coverage doesn't give the viewer that sense of the speed.

A child hood idol of mine. Even mentally screwed after an all nighter chasing gremlins, and he still lands great comments like that. 🥝✔️ Great to see the 100 mph lap get nailed. 2.18 back then.

7:50 to 8:10 you can hear the commentator laughing/giggling at RON WANLESS' explaination of why he drove the wrong way into the pits.

If I am not mistaken, one of the factors behind Caltex Chase being added to the circuit was following the death of Mike Burgmann during the James Hardie 1000 in 1986, am I right?

I know that the number 5 car is a famous one but I would like to see coverage of the other cars a bit more There are many more cars on the track other than the number 5 commodore

They were only made for a short period in Australia. I bought a V6 GT 3.0 in the early 1980s and while it was fun to drive and own it had seen better days.

Larry Perkins driving with no gloves! Recovery truck and Marshall’s on the track while the race merrily goes on ! Ah the good ole days. Why did they change Conrod straight ?
@RawSpeed2311 Жыл бұрын
While exciting to watch and fun to drive, it's when things don't go right that the Chase was installed. Look how many incidents have occurred at the Chase since it's been in. Imagine that and no where to go with the speeds they reach today. I race simulators where Conrod was straight and it doesn't always end well for me, especially when the brakes fade.
