The podium with John Goss hardly able to even shake the bottle after holding himself in place because his seat was broken. For at least a couple of hundred race kays and at the end still holding Brock at 30sec. And how Gossy grabbed that brass ring and didn't let go.

Allan Moffat as a commentator worked beautifully, it was a pleasure to hear the intelligent in-car with Dick Johnson. I had just finished 84 pt2 and Dick had stopped from lack of fuel, the stupid commentator doing the in-car just went on and on about how bad is it for you Dick. And Jill in the pits being scrutinized in the hope she'd cry or something. Been watching all the earlier Bathurst telecast's as well and Evan Green was good value, can't even bear listening to any from the last twenty years coz they commentate for wood ducks who know nothing about cars. And everyone has an O added to their name Gibbo, explain why they need air in their tyres Larko matey. No criticism of Mark Larkham intended, he's the real deal.

These old Bathurst videos are great, watched it on the day and a coupla times since then. It's hard listening to the commentators sucking up to Prince Leopold with the His Royal Highness stuff but. He probably got sick of it also. Fury shoving Harvey off the track was epic and if you watch the previous year Fury during the in car drops an f bomb and there was no seven second button then, I thought Fury was brilliant.

After 1980 and a year of Dick Johnson and the 'rock' saga boring everyone to death, all Australians were glad to finally hear the end of it with the start of the 1981 race. But then of course, Johnson drama again when he didn't really win the 1981 race.

The situational awareness of commentary was always poor. You never knew much about gaps or who had pitted.

The bits with no commentary originally contained adverts. These breaks are loaded with atmosphere, the camera people are relaxing and you get a feel for the reality of why everyone is there. Normal type people, not preening publicity hounds. This race was truly magnificent, a saga with a cast of thousands. I miss it like I miss our motor industry.

“Are you happy with the performance you’ve given today?” The sarcasm is dripping from that question 😂😂 - well I’ve bent the suspension, so I don’t think Alan is happy with me, but yeah we are in second place 🤦‍♂️

Good old moffat ever the try hard still fogging the outdated ford donkeys. He still hadn’t got the memo from 78 at sandown and Bathurst that the XC was a dinosaur. 60s suspension design overrated 351s the most detonated engine at Bathurst rubbish brakes floating up and down on the straights chewed tyres. First 8 cars over the line A9X toranas the first ford 25th. An absolute DECIMATION of ford. The Torana was by FAR a superior car and it took until 1983 to equal its lap times at Bathurst. Brock Richards won by 6 laps and Brock was fastest in Friday practice won the hardies heroes shootout and broke the lap record on the last lap on worn Tyres. Never late in a 308..

Moffat Ford Dealer Team, decimated the A9X in 77 and got 1-2 in doing it, also the only team in history to get 1-2 at Bathurst and 1-2 in the touring car championship in the same year, The Torana come back the next year with a special hot rod that cams helped out their sorry arses after the previous years flogging, the car wasn’t even homologated, with the required 400 to be sold to the public, a few special purpose built from GMH they were so illegal they come with a template showing where to cut the hole in the floor for the gear shift, these things had a massive hand up from cams, and the same year Ford pulled out all backing, the Ford was 4 seconds slower than the previous year, hollow victory to the Torana, to easy.

@@TheSuzukik5 you ford ladies still flogging that 1 2 garbage finish where Moffat told bond to SLOW down to form up for the cameras. Moffat was a whining cheat who was banned for 6 weeks for using illegal roller rockers at sandown after repeatedly begging ford to homoligat them on the unreliable hand grenade XCs of which both were mercilessly thrashed by even back marker privateer A9Xs with less HP but MASSIVELY superior brakes and handling. Both Moffat and bonds cars retired as an omen of what was about to occur at Bathurst. He used an ILLEGAL 6 speed in his shit box Mazda at sandown and Bathurst in order to ATTEMPT too keep up with the V8 s top end speed and after years of denying it finally came clean. In 77 the Torana the A9X was STILL a superior package needing more development and once 78 came along the ford outdated donkey brigade didn’t have a hope. Even as a road car the XC was an outdated pile of crap. Keep waving that 1 2 fake finish flag old cock. Moffat and was repayed in spades when ford abandoned him after years of on his knees service.

And all the ford fans for YEARS blamed a holden fan for Johnson slamming the wall. Total and utter BS. Johnson was a whining 🤡 who was never happy with anything along with Moffat who went on to one of the biggest cheats in the business using illegal roller rockers at sandown in 78 on his XC falcon and copping a 6 week ban. Then black flagged 3 times at sandown in his illegal RX7 for speeding though the pits with its 6 speed box which he denied for decades but then finally owned up to.

Good job, the incident with the rock never should have happened, no wonder Dick Johnson was feeling pretty cut up about it but he managed to overcome the adversity and emerge over the years with three wins at Bathurst and five Australian Touring Car Championships.

I can listen to Evan and Mike for hours. My ears and intelligence are not insulted. I can figure out and learn about what's going on with a calmness and appropriate expression without the dramas and repeats of dramas and emotions. The current commentators shout out information and constantly repeat themselves with their over dramatic expressions talking at the speed of 300wps. I actually watched the Bathurst this year with the sound on mute.

I miss these days when men were men, and racing was raw and exciting. I miss having the slower cars in the mix, and leaving broken cars on the track, it sorted the men from the boys. Nowadays they call out the pace car if someone gets a splinter. How did we let racing get so sterile?
