That was an element missing from the 1970s Superfriends! Anything that resembled a physical fight at all! My brother was one to point that out as he had been a major fan of TV Batman! "They never actually fight anyone and the villains just automatically give up when the Justice League walks into the room!" Haha!

Oh boy. Despite all the gaffs and limited budget, I absolutely loved Batman & Robin as a kid. I discovered reruns of the live Batman show around the same time. Love them both. Caesar Romero Joker was actually frightening to me back then. I was not a fan of the 70s show at all -- despite the inclusion of West and Ward.

It's too bad Cesar Romero and Burgess Meredith didn't voice their animated characters on these cartoons. Nothing against Larry Storch or Olan Soule, but Adam West and Burt Ward should have voiced their cartoon characters, likewise with Frank Gorshin voicing The Riddler.
@tvcrazyman
@tvcrazyman 3 ай бұрын
I totally get that. I loved it when Adam West took over on the Super Friends in the 80s. He was Batman to me, but at the same time I do appreciate Olan Soule and Casey Kasem as the cartoon versions of Batman and Robin. I bet Filmation didn't have the money to get those guys on board.

I was 5 when the 1968 Filmation cartoon was broadcast, so I had some live action AND Saturday morning Batman! But the 1970's weird, mirror universe production wasted the voice talent w/ oddly color keyed villains (looking right at you, pink Riddler). West and Ward were probably too busy w/ season 3 to get voice over time for the 60's cartoon...but man! that would've ruled!

Filmation found the money when they wanted to because they had almost all of the casts from The Brady Kids, Gilligan's Island and Star Trek for their cartoon series and later got Adam West and Burt Ward for The New Adventures Of Batman in 1977. They even got Roger C. Carmel to voice Harry Mudd and Stanley Adams to voice Cyrano Jones on Star Trek - The Animated Series, both of whom appeared on Batman as Colonel Gumm and Captain Courageous respectively. EDIT: Mark Lenard also appeared as Sarek. The cast of The New Adventures Of Gilligan (1974) which ran for 2 seasons, returned for Gilligan's Planet in 1982. The Brady Kids (1972) ran for 2 seasons, but Barry Williams (Greg Brady), Maureen McCormick (Marcia Brady) and Christopher Knight (Peter Brady) decided not to return for season 2 so Greg and Marcia were voiced by Lou Scheimer's kids, Lane and Erika and Peter was voiced by Hal Sutherland's son, Keith. I think Lassie voiced her/himself in Lassie's Rescue Rangers (1972). Rick Springfield voiced himself in Mission: Magic (1973). The only cast member of Star Trek who was not included in the animated series was Walter Koenig as Chekov and the only cast members of Gilligan's Island that were not included were Dawn Wells as Mary Ann and Tina Louise as Ginger, both voiced by Jane Webb who also voiced Batgirl and Betty, Veronica and Sabrina on the Archie cartoons and was the first to voice Wonder Woman on The Brady Kids In 1972. Tina Louise likely turned down the part of Ginger, but Dawn Wells voiced Mary Ann and Ginger on Gilligan's Planet in 1982. They didn't get Ray Walston and Bill Bixby for My Favorite Martians but they did get Jonathan Harris (Dr. Smith from Lost In Space) to play Uncle Martin. And while he wasn't a big name at the time, David L. Lander (Squiggy from Laverne & Shirley) played Jerry Lewis in Will The Real Jerry Lewis Please Sit Down? in 1970 because the real Jerry Lewis maybe didn't have time or didn't want to do it. I know Larry Storch did a lot of work for Filmation (The Brady Kids, The Original Ghost Busters) but I didn't know he played The Joker, I thought all of the villians were played by Ted Knight (The Penguin, Riddler, Mr. Freeze, Simon The Pieman). Ted Knight who also did a lot of work for Filmation was also Commissioner Gordon and the narrator for this series and later for Hanna-Barbera's Super Friends. Larry Storch's Joker sure sounds like Ted Knight. All of the cast of Batman (1966) were still alive in 1977 when The New Adventures Of Batman premiered on CBS except Stafford Repp who played Chief O'Hara and Madge Blake as Aunt Harriet and even though the pink Riddler appeared in the intro, he never appeared in the series to be voiced by Frank Gorshin. This is because Hanna-Barbera had the rights to The Riddler in Challenge Of The Superfriends (1978) and Frank Gorshin played The Riddler in a Legends Of The Superheroes special in 1979 on NBC. It's a shame they didn't ask Yvonne Craig to reprise her Batgirl role along with Adam and Burt.

Fun Fact: Michael Rye who voiced The Lone Ranger on the 1966 cartoon, also played Green Lantern on Superfriends starting in 1977. Great video as usual! One correction: Larry Storch was NOT the voice of the Joker in the 68 Batman cartoon. Ted Knight did all of the male villains, Joker, Penguin, Riddler, Simon the Pieman, Scarecrow, and Mr. Freeze. Also Commissioner Gordon. Larry was the voice of the Joker in the 73 Scooby Doo movies. That was the only time he voiced the Joker.
@andrewweisneck1102
@andrewweisneck1102 3 ай бұрын
I thought that too, but IMDB lists Larry Storch as The Joker on the 1968 Batman cartoon. I can't believe it because The Joker sounds like Ted Knight to me but on IMDB he is only credited as The Penguin and Mr. Freeze and other characters but curiously not The Riddler. Ted Knight voiced a lot of characters for Filmation besides the ones on Batman like: Professor Oliver Lindenbrook on Journey To The Center Of The Earth Ben Turner on Lassie's Rescue Rangers Commander Jonathan Kidd on Fantastic Voyage A shape shifting alien on Star Trek The Animated Series And I believe he may have played Aquaman villians Black Manta and or The Fisherman All I know for sure is Larry Storch played a lot of supporting characters on The Brady Kids (Marlon, Ping & Pong, Mop Top, Fleetwood and Chuck White) and also played one of The Original Ghost Busters with his old F-Troop co-star Forrest Tucker.

@@andrewweisneck1102 You are correct. But IMDB is wrong about Larry doing any voices on Batman. Ted did all of those voices on Batman. Also you are correct about Ted doing the voices on Aquaman. He was Black Manta and The Fisherman, plus many more villains in that series too. One key clue is Larry isn't listed in the voice credits in the Batman cartoon. I agree with you about Larry and his supporting roles. Just loved him in all of those.

@@tvcrazyman Yes, I am for certain about Larry Storch not being in the 68 Batman cartoon. I got my intel from Will Rodgers, the author of The Ultimate Super Friends Companion book. He has done tons of research on the Super Friends. But also a huge Batman 68 and 77 cartoon fan. He knows his stuff. IMDB is wrong. BTW: really love your channel!

@@Merylstreep1949 DC was always changing Catwoman's costume until they finally settled on her current purple (sometimes gray) outfit. The black catsuit that Julie Newmar wore was a good look for her but didn't resemble Catwoman's look in the comics. Selina Kyle has gone from having a full head cat mask to a purple cowl and dress with a green cape to a red mask and blue body suit to a black catsuit worn by Julie Newmar, Lee Meriwether and Eartha Kitt to a green bodysuit with a white mask on the 1968 cartoon and back to the purple dress with green cape to Michelle Pfeiffer's black leather suit with Frankenstein stitches (also worn by Casey Easlick) to the skimpy suit worn by the Patience Phillips Halle Berry version to the purple or gray costume as voiced by Adrienne Barbeau to the leather biker outfit worn by Camren Bicondova to the Julie Newmar inspired catsuit worn by Anne Hathaway and finally The ninja mask catsuit worn by Zoe Kravitz.

Ted Knight was the voice of all the BATMAN villains (and the series' narrator) in the 1968 Filmation version, not Larry Storch! pay careful attention to Knight's voice, because Larry Storch has a distinctive voice, and no way was he the voice of The Joker-that was Ted Knight's voice!
@tvcrazyman
@tvcrazyman 3 ай бұрын
Thanks, I used the site IMDB for that info, but I'm beginning to think IMDB was not accurate in this case. Someone else said that Storch did voice the Joker in the Scooby Doo 70s team-up so maybe that led to the belief he voiced the 68 Joker. IMDB has Storch down for 10 episodes at the time I looked.
@MONGOOSE1ful
@MONGOOSE1ful 3 ай бұрын
@@tvcrazyman Ted Knight had an extensive history with Filmation Associates, while Larry Storch did voices at DePatie-Freleng and Hal Seeger Productions throughout the mid-1960s. As a lifelong devoted Filmation fan, I can honestly tell you that not all IMDb information is always accurate! Filmation also produced "FANTASTIC VOYAGE" for ABC, the same year that "THE BATMAN-SUPERMAN HOUR" debuted on CBS in Fall 1968-look for an episode called "The Spy Satellite", and near the conclusion of that Fantastic Voyage episode, a character that Ted Knight voices uses a "Joker" laugh, which is rock proof solid, that Ted Knight voiced both Joker, Penguin, Riddler, Mr. Freeze,, Scarecrow, and Simon The Pieman, plus The Judge in all the 1968 "BATMAN" episodes. When Hanna-Barbera Productions secured the rights from then National Periodical Publications to use Batman and Robin in "THE NEW SCOOBY-DOO MOVIES" in 1972, Ted Knight returned to voice Joker and Penguin, while Larry Storch was voicing characters in "THE BRADY KIDS".
