Keaton was a perfect Batman. I think because it made so much sense for his Bruce Wayne to hide that persona. Heck, people barely realized he was Bruce Wayne in the films, because he was so ordinary. They knew the name more than the face.

@@babyfaceaviator7862 Thats kind of what killed comics for anybody but kids for a long time. They were just so ridiculous to say that this reporter took off his glasses and nobody recognized him. Of course the suit doesn't help, but in the nineties and even up to today they were even more ridiculous with necks as thick as their heads adn yet still nobod knew who he was. Keaton was good at least for me because when you look at the guys who actually take martial arts and could beat hell out of you, its never the uber muscular guys who just pumped iron and were slow as hell. They did that will B V S and it sort of worked, but he didn't carry the whole movie. The one thing that I always grimace at is when that guy goes 'who are you', he should have just dropped him and disappear becaues the way he says "I'm Batman" just would make everybody giggle.

I always thought Keaton had looks, he wasn't a sculpted model, but certainly not a bad looking guy. Throw the fact that his character is the richest thing in the room, you've got the recipe for a playboy billionaire. Burton's Batman was a new take and along with Frank Miller's Dark Knight, they really changed Batman permanently. Bruce Timm only cemented that further with the DCAU. The tropes in 80s and early 90s Batman stuck, as soon things that were born from animation and film were brought into the comics. I'd argue that this period in Batman history are why Batman films still fill seats. And at the end of the day, nostalgia is the fuel for most of the film industry's output. Ben Affleck meets your criteria for a perfect Batman, but was he really?

You're right on the money. I like to think that it took a really outside the box mind to see Keaton as Batman. That's Burton to the nth degree. After you saw the movie, you realize how perfect he is as Batman. The only criticism I see is he didn't play up the playboy billionaire card, but that goes against his character, who both as Bruce Wayne and as Batman live in the shadows. He's hardly recognized as the huge deal that he is, because he's lived his life as Bruce Wayne in the shadows. He in essence only emerges and is recognized when he's Batman. In a way, he's always been Batman and lived his life as such and only when he put on the mask, can he roam in public at least for a brief period. Looking at it this way, Keaton's portrayal is definitely the darkest.

I love how when this was made they kept that 30/40s art style , When they released the animated series and had it in that style too really made these feel more connected and gritty. Truly amazing and compelling cinematography that's not been portrayed that graphically since. And im kinda glad.

Are you had seen other roles of him, like the Rover, Lost City Of Z, Good Time, High Life, The King and The Lighthouse where he was aclaimed for very single of those performances by the critics and the audiance? If not have not see at least 1 or 2 of those films you can't criticzes his acting abillity and less predict his performance as Batman or the quality of the film without even see it said role and film.

I didn't want to see another "actor" as "Batman" because Michael Keaton sold me right away. That was true about his "eyes" you couldn't figure out what there was behind that mystery and yet, to me, he was the best Batman ever and still is! Michael has the same quality or similar one that Jack Nicholson so seeing these two together to fight off each other was going to be fun but yet exciting!

Keaton is so great. For Batman he had the wrong height, the wrong body type and the wrong career history, but somehow he and Burton not only overcame those issues, but actually made a virtue of them. Keaton's Wayne isn't a mountain of muscle but he sells Wayne's intellect, intensity and madness so well that you can still believe in everything he does as Batman. It's also very effective how Burton always shot Batman in such a way to make him look much taller and more imposing than Keaton was in reality, but didn't do the same when Keaton was playing Bruce. Having Bruce look like a regular (borderline short) dude compared to the towering, bulky Batman really adds to the mystery of the character, imo. It's basically the opposite approach to the Nolan films. I like Nolan's films, but they were very concerned with grounding everything Batman could do in some sort of tangible reality. Christian Bale bulked up for the role and we see him train and source all of his gadgets, usually explaining the use and purpose of a gadget in a conversation with Alfred. We know absolutely everything about what he's capable of before we even see him do it, because the Nolan is very keen for us to understand the rational explanation for something before it happens. (There's no way Nolan would have had Batman summon a swarm of bats in Batman Begins without explaining how that gadget works beforehand.) That's all good and fine, but Burton and Keaton had, in my opinion, a much more interesting and elegant explanation for why and how Batman can do all the things he can do. Which is that Bruce Wayne is insanely driven and in all likelihood, actually insane. That's really all you need to know, and it's more fun than Nolan's over-explanation of everything.

The first thing I noticed when I saw Keaton is his crazy beautiful stare and eyes. So I 100% saw what they saw in him. Funny how I keep thinking that he is my fave Batman. I never liked anyone as much as I liked him as Batman. No one can sell it like he did. TBH, I’m not too sure but Robert Pattinson is the closest we will ever get to Keaton’s Batman. I don’t know why but Rob has crazy eyes as well. I feel that people will like his Batman. Just a hunch. Movie might be “meh” but he can be amazing. We’ll have to see. But I’m excited.

While Affleck is my favorite, all three brought something different to the character that the others couldn't do as well. Bale brought the dark animality and Affleck brought the brooding and the physical presence of Batman, which is a huge part of the character. Keaton brought a Batman/Bruce that truly had inner demons to work out. All of those are important to the character as the best comic incarnations of him possess, but each actor did it a little differently. I'm excited to see Pattinson give us a sort of "year two" Batman.

I was a fan of Michael Keaton in his comedic persona, I enjoyed his sarcasm, and his physical comedy. I was so much a fan of his comedy I didn't expect him to be in the running yet alone the actual star of the movie. I kept wondering who this Michael Keaton guy was that would be batman. I kept trying to place the name with the face. It was as if a part of my brain shut down at the idea … I then thought oh no not another camp style batman. Then I watched the movie and I learned the depth of Michael. He was the vehicle that made Batman a credible character. All that followed owe it to his talent as a true gem in theatre.

Watched Keaton in 89 when I was 11. Been through all live action movies Batman. I guessed a huge bunch of people in the comment section never read the comics. Keaton's portrayal is the most comic accurate from Bruce to being in the suit. You can criticize his height all you want, if you are taller I would like to see you in the suit and see if you can perform better. Back then in the comics the suit was still blue and grey. But after Burtonverse came out, they changed the costume in the comics to the Keaton one. And the mood became darker. That is how much influence the Burtonverse has. Till now.

I just realized Batman (1989) Trilogy has the most famous live action versions of its characters. Michael as Batman, Uma as Poison, Danny as Penguin, Michelle as Catwoman. Jack Nicholson as Joker, Not to mention Tim Burton as their Director. I do think Michael’s batman Trilogy is the pioneer and blue print among the latest of the Batman trilogies. I am Gen Z yet I can see how really successful and popular his own trilogy.

He has been the best Batman there, as the Christopher Reeve made best Superman and Clark Kent ever, then Michael Keaton as well made the best Bruce Wayne. As well we don't need to forget the Michael Gough as best Alfred as well, the classic British butler. I have watched all the batman movies recently after finishing the Batman series from 60's, and while the special effects and visual effects are not so advanced and heavily used like in the latest ones, they do make almost more believable scenes by what they used. I do like Ben Affleck as batman as well, he does it well too.

It took me so long to realize just how good the script is for this movie. How they show Bruce is always mentally Batman. That’s why he forgets to answer to his own name at the beginning and he’s almost in a trance-like state, about to take the joker out at the city hall shooting without his costume on. I remember first watching Batman on tv when I was younger on Film4 in the UK 🇬🇧. Tim Burton did a good job bringing Batman back to its darker roots. But my favourite Batman will always be Christian Bale.

Really looking forward to Michael Keaton returning is an older version of Bruce Wayne/Batman I think it’s going to be great in the movie the flash but the question is why did he decide to return? Because Tim berton has nothing to do with this film well I guess because he read the script and it’s gonna be from a Director who directed another dark scary film but either way review looking forward to it I’m glad you returned every thought it would happen but I’m very glad and happy and excited and I might try to get to the premiere of it hopefully only time will tail

So it was the eyes that got the actor the job as the masked character? I heard it was the same with Tom Hardy being cast as Bane, Christopher Nolan said he needed a guy who could act with just his eyes (since his mouth would be covered) and Hardy could really act with just his eyes. Nolan used Hardy again in Dunkirk, again when a character had his mouth covered (a pilot with breathing mask)
