Yep...he's right. For me, the true Batman is Adam West. He's the first one to whom I was introduced, just like Sean Connery is the true James Bond.

If you didn't live through it, you can't imagine what you missed. Batman, 1966. Landing on the Moon just 3 years later! Holy decade, Batman!

That's what I've been saying for a long time; the Batman series was representative of the comic's silver age. It was colorful and wasn't afraid to be goofy. That's why the Tim Burton movies were so gothic and serious; they were influenced by the Alan Moore and Frank Miller takes in the 80's.

Thanks for posting this. Today, people cannot grasp that not everyone had a TV back then. We were among the few, and my "Batfriends" would come from all over, to watch this show. One day, I took some of our finest towels and other clothing items, to make capes and masks for me (Batman) and my cousin (Robin). Bad idea.... And on the first episode that Catwoman (Julie Newmar) appeared, I instantly said to the TV screen, "I finally found the woman I am going to marry". Great memories.

I was in grade school and I remember the merch being so necessary as part of my belongings. Batman bubble gum cards were hot! We already had bubble gum cards, but Batman cards were traded, collected, and my 6 year old mind was enthralled!

Has anyone seen the meme floating around that says "Have all the confidence of a 4 year old wearing a Batman shirt"? I have a picture of 4 year old me in a Batman shirt, Christmas 1966! I've been a fan all my life!

Hey Warner Classics, can you need Best of All Traps & Escapes from "Batman" (1966 TV Series)?

Frank Miller didn't start the"darker" Batman. Denny O'Neil and Neal Adams and Steve Englehart and Marshall Rogers did that in the '70s.

It's interesting that this American lady has such a similar accent to Margaret Atwood, who grew up in rural Ontario and then in her university years, Toronto. They sound identical.

I own that set and can verify it is. It was interesting to watch this show with my dad who remembered when it was originally on ABC and my nephew who was just getting into superheroes. Then there's me who watched reruns on TV Land. It's a great show

As a kid, I was not happy they made the show so sappy and stupid at times. Batman was real to me, and he was portrayed as a clown.

I love the Batman series, but think it became too repetitive during the second season, then lost the plot in the third as budget cuts meant the “sets” would mostly be just a few props on a dark soundstage. If they could have kept the originality of the first season going forward, I bet the series could have run a few more years at least.

Michael Uslan is wrong. My was introduced to Batman as 9 year old kid by the TV show, and the silly "sci-fi" Batman comics in the barbershop, but the O'Neil/Adams and Englehart/Rogers books became "my" Batman in college in the '70s. I HATED what Joel Schumacher did to the movie franchise. I did get the chance to personally thank Yvonne Craig and Julie Newmar at a con for activating my hormones, and I did tell Ms. Newmar that she alone was MY Catwoman (and we flirted outragiously)... ;-)

Michael Uslan is 100%, completely WRONG with his take on the TV series in regards to the comic book character at 24:45. The dark, brooding Batman character of the comic books was LONG GONE by the time the series started in the mid-sixties. He started dark in 1939, but got toned way down after the introduction of Robin in 1940. By the early fifties, the villains had become totally buffoonish, and after the comics code went into effect, we saw the addition of the Bathound, Bat-Mite, and Batman began to mix with bizarre space aliens almost every month. Every attribute Mr. Uslan ticks off wouldn’t begin to creep back into the comic books until many years after the TV series ended. (It’s his revisionist history I find questionable. The comic book Batman most certainly DID have “cartoonish, over-the-top villains”, and they had been in place for at least 20 years by that point.)
