They REALLY never do bore!! To me the Arkham series ( city in particular) had the same effect on me as what zelda ocarina of time did when i was a kid (feel so old and in the way...) it just blew my mind how i got sucked in to these storylines (even origins, people bitch about how it wasnt a rocksteady game and hamill wasnt joker but Baker did an awesome "younger Hamill joker" jmpression and the game overall just gave this christmas holiday spirit vibe. Bet if people werent told that rocksteady wasnt part of its production, They wouldnt even have noticed it) wonder if ps4 is going to see rocksteady do another DC Arkhamverse spinoff, involving different characters as protagonist. Perhaps a sandbox game in which you can switch between characters and be able to travel between cities like Central City, Metropolis, Gotham and/or bludhaven etc. Would be a great step for them

I always find weird to look at these comparisons. The textures are good but I think the lighting not only makes the colors pop off in a less moody way, but they also make some characters look like they are juxtaposed to their environments. By and large, I think a lot of remasters miss the mark in the lighting dept.

It feels like if they just put in a little more the game would look significantly better, all that they would've needed to change is to make the characters and npcs get affected by the lighting. It just feels wrong seeing blue lights and a moody city, and then all the npcs look completely different like they were edited in. Still generally prefer the remaster, but they had the perfect opportunity to make it even better.

They loterally just redid the textures in a new engine but doesnt bother redoing all the lighting because that is much harder than the textures because lightings are baked and situational in the original game, while in the new engine they didnt bother baking loghting cause it would take so much time

Why does my PS4 version constantly drop below 30fps especially flying outside is atrocious and pretty much any thing outside studders badly. I used to love it on PS3 but when I got the remaster for PS4 it was so all over the place when outside that I just deleted it. I redownloaded a couple times thinking they patched it but it's still the same. It's a travesty compared to how good Arkham Knight runs. Anyone else have this problem? Im running it on a ps4 slim.

Was thinking about getting the remaster but seeing this is changing my mind. Most likely because of their limitations, the PS3 designs were very intentional in what they showed versus what they didn’t, using shadowing and fog to not only create ambiance but to deal with the details they were unable to show. And it really shows with how consistent the environment is that they put careful thought into those decision. It’s not as clear, but really captures the idea of things being in a dark foggy night, and the characters look clean without being busy. Meanwhile the PS4 version looks like they lighted the entire environment like a Christmas tree, probably to show off the textures the new engine is capable of. But just because you can show something doesn’t mean you should. Their additions weren’t strategic and don’t seem to consider the environment of the game in the same way the original did. The end result is way too bright and doesn’t come together well. Really disappointed. :/

Overall it throws the original artists intent and vision out the window, in favor for a higher res game, Even though it is better, it looks and feels worse, Also it forces you to play through the Catwoman DLC, so yeah.

2:02 PS4 really should have mimicked the fog/depth of field effect from the PS3 version to mask the blurry low-resolution textures for buildings in the background. That building to the left of the casino sign looks terrible on PS4. The effect seems to be gone from the game entirely, or at least severely toned down. It's a shame, because it seemed like an artistic choice in addition to masking some hardware limitations, kind of like the fog in the Silent Hill games. It gave Arkham City an atmosphere that isn't there anymore in the remaster.

I mean, It has PS3 graphics but it can run at Higher Framerates and Farther Draw distances with Better AA than the standard PS3. Or if you have a monitor (and computer) that can support it, you can run it at 4K and not have to worry about AA. PC Version also has enhanced PhysX, so if you have a GTX or RTX card you can get those special particle effects and Destructible walls. If you can't stand the Texture resolution, just install a Texture overhaul. You want better AO? Use Reshade. (Excluding the Reshade and Texture overhaul,) the game can be run on almost anything if you Optimize it well enough. Before I got my gaming PC I ran the game on an old Work Laptop with the lowest settings and got a perfect 60 FPS. Now if you don't have a PC, Then go ahead and get the PS4 version (If you have one). It doesn't even matter if it has better or worse graphics, it's still the same amazing game and you should really get it.

Tall the other arlham games he is grey and black. There is a slight bluish color in arlham knight when you wear the AA suit or arlham city suit in certain light. It makes sense that if batman is under blue led and blue neon lights his suit would be blue a little. But in the original arkham city, they took it too far. He never looks black except in the shadows. And in bright lights it's very purple. When they dud the renaster they decided to make both games look more similar by eliminating the blue reflection in arkham city...but just like they did with the blue, this time they went overboard with the black. The deep black in his cape and cowl is what made arlham asylum look so much older than arlham city in the original. There was very little reflection or hot spots and it made the game look very cartoony. In the remaster, color and lighting are alot better, but shading on the faces look like they've been completely removed. This is why it looks worse sometimes. If Batman is in a dark area, his face should be in shadow too...bit the remaster puts none on the character and gives it a juxtaposed look I stead of looking like it's real. The in game performance looks just as good as knight to me. But the cutscenes look awful. Also, I noticed that batmans eyes were greatly improved from arlham asylum to city in the original. Instead of large white eye holes, it looks like eyes in a mask. It looked really really good in the OG arlham city. In the remastered, both city and asylum have pretty much the same batman model. AA still has the long neck...which I liked, but the eyes, colors, contours, silhouette still look the same between both games to me. Both remasters have the same eye issue. What used to really look like batman staring now just looks like big white eyes in a cartoon. Arlham knight had this problem top. The eyes didn't look real on batman. They looked like a cartoon. Batman arlham origins actually had better character models than all 3 of the other games. Batmans eyes look great The only things about origins suit I didn't like was the shorter ears and the really large legs, and huge gauntlets. I think it would have made more sense if batmans ears were super long like in the other games. Long curved inward ears screams Batman ARKHAM to me. And origins just kinda said, nope, we wNt very short ears and want it to look like the dark knight. Arlham origins looks as if they were heavily Inspired by batman begins and batman returns, but had to keep in the arkham verse.

Much prefer the tone and palette of the original. The remaster doesn’t feel special at all. And the likes of Catwoman at 3:50 look like they’re just made of crappy plastic in the remaster, whereas in the original, they looked and felt real, despite the graphical limitations at the time. Batman also looks reasonably ‘Special’ in the remaster 4:20 but absolutely fine in the original. Whilst I really want an excuse to play through these epic games again, I think I’ll still with my originals.

For the most part I also like the look and colors of the PS3 version a little bit more. Colors on the PS4 are a bit brighter, some character models look a little bit strange and the neon lights seem a little bit to much for me. What haven't caught my eye until now is the very poor texture quality of the PS3 version which can be seen in the video. At the moment I'm playing Arkham City for the first time on PS3 in order to play Arkham Knight afterwards. Maybe I should take a look at that later...

I think ps3 is better just because the atmosphere of it was dark and like you never knew what was next and in the newer version it’s brighter and doesn’t have that feel to it

They wanted to make the lighting more realistic. This makes things brighter which makes the game less dark than it was. That's the big downside to me.

The remaster looks better purely graphically, but I'm not really sure what it is, but the original has much more atmosphere. The lighting is moodier and more Batman-y I guess. The best example in the video is 4:32.

Because the cutscenes no longer require them to make HD videos from scratch like the PS3/360 days. Every cutscene can now be done in game without having to do extra work and gives you a smooth transition rather than a loading screen after every cutscene.

idk if its just my console but for sum reason frame rate is an issue wen i dive bomb and grapnel boost and theres a terrible issue with bad textures and missing floors that make me fall thru the world
