Batman: Arkham Shadow Looks...Good?

BEFORE you comment, I'm not experienced in the realm of Virtual Reality and my takes on it are pretty bad obviously. Totally willing to admit I'm wrong. As many people have pointed out, VR has developed a lot and VR exclusivity isn't nearly as bad as consoles. Mobility and motion sickness isn't as big of a problem anymore. I apologize for continuing old falsehoods about the medium, I know it could be annoying to hear especially for people really into VR. We can have a discussion about it, please just be civil. As a game developer myself I've always respected developers in any part of the gaming industry including VR. For me personally, I haven't seen a VR game yet that has gotten me to invest in the technology, simply because of the cost. I'd LOVE to have one, but I'm not pushed to spend so much money.

VR is cool dude, open your mind I was a hater myself, but at some point I changed my mind I wanted to invest on Quest 3 because it's not only for games, you can do many things that Apple Vision Pro can do, this is what made me want to buy one, and I don't regret to be honest Now VR is like the Wii 2 for me, I really enjoyed the Nintendo Wii, and Quest is similar with all the movement games

Personally don't have the money to put down on something so expensive right now, and it would take something really crazy to get me to, but I know FOR SURE I would enjoy VR because it IS cool. in my time in ve ive found motion sickness to be massively exaggerated as the minority of people ive gotten into vr has had motion sickness as well as its a temporary thing that once u have vr legs it doesn't matter for most vr users other than some noobs

@@BludPanda depends on the game Aagards wrath 2, is awesome and feels triple A. both, walking dead saints and sinners games are awesome such as how the zombies can hear you talk as in your real voice and scavenging is great too while trying to be quiet and how dealing with zombies feels is also great, so far just about any game with a grapple gun feels great, there's sail vr its basically sea of thieves but ill be honest its early access and does not have as much as sea of thieves but still it's just as great as it also makes me mad when I'm killed a lot and there into the radius is another great game I've gotten chills from the echo statues. and im sure just about most scary games will make you make a mess out of ur pants or your friends XD and right now there's even more great games that are out and are coming out

VR is really on the rise and there are some fantastic games that are not very mainstream that are a blast to play. Not to mention the upcoming games coming out the end of the year. I understand VR is not for everyone but if your a fan of VR like myself it's amazing.

@@BludPandaContractors VR and Blades and Sorcery are the games I play most, but the most advanced game I’ve played is Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR. It was very fun I just wish it was longer.

Do note that the Quest 3 is rendering the game at like 4k at 72 fps (At least). That's insane.

I feel like the visuals look better than the non VR games. When they show Batman walking through the sewers, those are a level of textures and lightning I haven't seen in a full batman game

Definitely looks great in many places, such as in the contained spaces, but I don't think it really compares to Arkham Knight still. The backgrounds seem very intentionally sparse for performance. But I think they've done a good job of making it feel quite stylized. Old Gotham is covered in so much exxagerated darkness it's hard to see how sparse it is.

Also what's crazy is the game is running 2064×2208p per eye at 72hz. This game looks awesome. Also the game should be around 12 hours I believe.

@@EternalPayne I kind of thought that way too, but after getting a Quest 3 months ago, it has waaaay more than just one game. Asgard's Wrath 2 is one of the best games I've ever played. It got 10/10s from major outlets and its only on Quest 2/3. 500 games total. And it works with a PC too. I play Microsoft Flight sim and dozens of other games.

Graphics, i’ve realized, dont matter when you’re in the game, sure if you watch it from a flatscreen it can look strange, but when you’re in the game you’re more focused on the fact that the massive 6’ muscular guard is coming at you to attack. There is no edge of the screen in vr like there is on flatscreen, you can always move away from your screen, you can’t move away from the one strapped to your head

alot of VR games didn't end up being "point and click games" it isn't 2016 anymore, VR games are fully fledged games these days. and the developers of these games may not have the biggest budgets, but they have the most passion out of any developer in the industry. why would developers bother making games for a medium that's gonna make less money and which is harder to develop for other than the fact they believe in the technology and its not just about the money.

I appreciate your excitement for VR. My thoughts here weren't meant to be taken as some serious analysis or view on VR as a medium. I'm definitely not an accurate source of information on modern VR and I've made a few mistakes in this video. I don't have anything against the medium and I should have clarified that and been more reserved, I apologize. I'm a game developer myself working in Unity so in no way do I care more about "the money" than the medium or hold that above other developers. Unfortunately nothing has pulled me into the space yet, that's just my personal experience, due to the price of admission.

I can tell the people behind this game are very passionate about the Arkhamverse and I love that. That's what Flop Squad was missing. This game feels like an Arkham game. Now I won't lie I am skeptical I think all of us are. But I'm willing to give it a chance. After Flop Squad we deserve a proper Arkham game.

The first person detective work in the trailer just gives the idea of what if they made a first person Batman game that has a detective focus. Detective work that doesn’t require all this tech. I agree with you that this should be the finale Arkham game. They should DEFINITELY reboot the Batman games and make a new Batman game with new gameplay. People need to know that there is a way better Batman game out there that isn’t made yet. These games aren’t the limit of what a Batman game can be. i think the combat is gonna be really good, ive seen alot of videos and interviews it looks like a perfectly ported over for vr version of the arkham games combat. plus everything in headset is ALWAYS better, it will be cool to just be in the suit and explore around and fight

It also helps they are huge fans of Arkham and care more than wb Edit: the problem with vr and a big ip like Batman is that the game has to be accessible to people with motion sickness but also fun for people without it. This was a big problem for the Spider-Man vr demos for the Tom holland films

I hate that so many people are crying and hating on this game just because it is a VR Game.(im not talking about you BludPanda) The Arkham Trilogy ended with Arkham Knight in 2015, just let this new entry be its own thing and stop crying. If you dont like it its fine, even Ryan Payton said that he completely understands the dissapointment. The flatscreen Arkham-Games need to conclude at somepoint, right?(not counting Suicide Squad) And if there ever is a new flatscreen Arkham Game, and it turns out not so great, then people are unsatisfied with how that got treated. So just keep your great Memories from the Old Games. (btw i love all the Arkham Games)

Maybe their marketing strategy is nostalgia, or else it doesn't make sense that they'd only show locations from other Arkham games. I'm sure its not just limited to that, but again pretty much every part of the trailer was somewhere in either Arkham Origins or City. The Beacon Hotel seems like an interesting location. Unity makes sense, I've babbled a bit in VR dev last year. It's likely they could still import raw models into Unity then clean them up. Which I can't blame them for at all. Arkham VR just used Arkham Knight assets. Just think it would have been nice to see entirely new locations. I can hypothesize, I'm not saying this in confidence.

You seem to be focused on the limitations rather than the advantages VR offers. It's frustrating but it's so hard to describe. In a flat game for an attack you just press a button, in VR your actually punching the enemy, you can do hooks or uppercuts or throws, no Idea Shadow works in depth but VR is not about limitations it's about doing exactly what you want.

I like the inclusion of villains like lock-up. Rocksteady kind of disappointed me with the constant reuse of the penguin. Thr game looks alright but I couldn't care less about VR.

I'm explaining why I'm not going to get it??? Not sure why people are so defensive about this game already. I have a positive outlook on the game and its developers but I also want to tell my followers why I won't cover it. The environment games surround themselves in is extremely relevant to how I see certain games and especially if I am going to get a game. If you don't care about the gaming industry's economics that's cool, I'm not forcing you to care. This isn't a review or analysis my guy, it's my own unscripted thoughts.

Here's my prediction Potential spoilers below: The Rat king stole Ratcatcher's tech and is causing chaos in Gotham. Leading Batman and Ratcatcher to team up sort of, united by somewhat of a common cause: stop the Rat king and get Ratcatcher's stuff back.

Unfortunately I won't be playing the game any time soon. I don't really think its logical to spend 500 or so on a VR set just for one game. Hopefully there's a price drop at some point. Until then i'll probably just watch gameplay online. Who knows, maybe its so good that i decided to spend the money. Hopefully its a good story. This has also tempted me to replay the Arkham games again :)

Its rumored a quest 3s would release around holiday of this year around the price of the quest 2 ($300) But also you won’t be buying it for just one game, the quest system has hundreds of games, most of them are built for replayability, like VRChat or The Walking Dead, even shooters like Contractors. I understand if you’re apprehensive but VR is far from a one trick pony, i would seriously recommend looking into it

This is going to flop because there’s no way people are going to buy a VR headset just to play this game. Remember how sometimes a video game would be drastically different depending on what gemes console it was made for? Different animations, different gameplay, even different stories. rocksteady and wb werent going to make a console game anyways. meta funded everything and it was built by one of their owned studios. all wb really had to do was "yes, you can make it". and people will buy the headset. more likely the quest 3S will sell better as it'll probably ship with arkham shadow when its released in october alongside it. sure they may not buy it specifically just for the headset but arkham shadow is good marketing for them and allows people to get more interested in their platform and buy their hmds
