@@jasonmcgill3904 Joker is a fantastic piece of cinema. It’s a character driven drama about a man’s descent into madness and violent revenge against a world that ignored him his whole life. The pacing, the dialogue, the soundtrack and the cinematography are all on point. It’s an understated kind of film that doesn’t rely on CGI. A movie that’s anchored firmly on its main character and his journey. Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur is simply phenomenal. For those expecting an action movie, yes, you’ll be disappointed. Me personally, I loved it. It would be great to see them react to it 😁

Bruce wanted revenge against criminals for his parents death. That's why he locked himself in prison and that's why he accepted the offer of training from Raz. @@brianmcmaster5112 the main reason I say this besides heath's performance, is because the scene where joker came to the party, caught the great Michael Cain so off guard that he forgot his line's. He's a classically trained actor that never forgets his line's, but he was so terrified by heath's performance that he forgot his line's, that's beyond acting at that point. He has become that character, which is a difficult thing to do. There's others that have done that before heath, but you can still get a bit of a glimpse of the actor being there, a tiny bit. But heath was gone completely in his performance and it's proof when another classically trained actor is so stunned that he forgot his line's, in my opinion that equates to arguably the greatest performance in cinema history.

You two proved why including an origin story is important. While many of us know how young Bruce lost his parents and have seen it in several films, shows or comics - not everyone has and the look on your faces is a great reminder to those of us whom have 'calloused' over time. A young man with resources and motivation can make a huge difference.

I love this trilogy. Christian Bale is my favorite Bruce Wayne/Batman because of this trilogy, he really got the character as well as the differences between the personas Bruce Wayne has, such as the fake playboy Bruce Wayne for the public, the real Bruce Wayne that few people get to actually see and Batman where he releases his frustration and anger. I also love the supporting cast, Michael Caine as Alfred Pennyworth, Gary Oldman as Jim Gordon, Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox and Katie Holmes as Rachel. The villains were well cast to, Liam Neeson as Ra’s al Ghul and Cillian Murphy as Jonathan Crane/Scarecrow. Christopher Nolan rebooted Batman the best way possible, especially after Batman & Robin 8 years prior. Great reactions guys, take care!

The flower they gave Bruce during his training is meant to bring out your worst fears and you're supposed to overcome them. That's why everyone is terrified whenever Scarecrow uses it on them, plus it's made to be even stronger in the spray form. Raz-A-Gul is more of a title than a single person, the name is immortal but it's more of an identity you become.
@Yun-yd1im
@Yun-yd1im 9 ай бұрын
Okay, you got that last part wrong. Raz flat out says that the other person who was acting as Raz was a distraction. This fits with the comics entirely. Raz is followed by a super big and skilled warrior named Ubu. In the first appearance of Raz in the comics, Ubu is wearing the "demon head" mask and acts like he is in charge while Raz plays the role of a father whose daughter was kidnapped by the League of Assassins. It was all a ruse to see the true character of Batman. The funny thing is that in the third one, Bane is the new Ubu. He plays the role to protect the true leader the exact same way.

Side note, I really do enjoy seeing people's reaction to that guy going, "Where are you!?" and then Batman shows up behind him going, "Here." It's a very interesting commentary on psychedelics. The very thing that was used to make the Batman overcome his emotional obstacles, also had the power to effectively throw society into chaos. Intent, and desire to grow do change with the individual, and not everyone has the ability to face their fears, so to speak. This is an excellent way to display character growth, while also highlighting one of the many things that makes Bruce extraordinary.

So if you listen to the speech Raz tells Bruce in the house, the chemical from the toxin in blue flower is where it comes from, but they were able to weaponize it. It does no harm the way they were using it in the beginning. And of course, the beginning is the people who essentially made Batman become “more than just a man.” They say that a few times to imply Batman is essentially unstoppable when he reaches full potential.

To answer some of Asia's questions: Wayne Enterprises had it's fingers in a lot of different pies, including weapons development. And as Lucius Fox (Morgan Freeman) says, they were developing the armor for soldiers, the vehicle for military bridging exercises, and so on... All Bruce did was find ways to repurpose them as Batman. And Dr. Crane was weaponizing the flower's hallucinogenic properties the same way you take the spicy stuff from chili peppers and concentrate it into pepper spray to spray into an attacker's eyes. Also, this isn't Batman's only origin story. There have been a number of variations over years, but most include his parents being gunned down in an alley behind the theater, as this gives him the motivation to go after criminals.

Bruce traveled the world for years, putting himself into the underworld to understand it from the inside. He also learned from anyone who was great at what they did, whether fighting, strategy, detective work, and whatever else, all as training to be a crime fighter. He uses his wealth and resources to fund that effort, as well as community and humanitarian efforts. And he honed his skills to their highest potential. Eventually he would meet Superman and Wonder Woman and together form the Justice League. But they would appreciate that while they're the best at what they do given their strengths, he's the best at what he does. At one point in the comics Superman said that Bruce Wayne is the most dangerous man on earth. He is willing to do literally whatever it takes to win, except he won't kill. That's the only thing he won't do.

It’s hard to describe how stoked I was when this was coming out,I had gotten back into comics about a year earlier(especially Batman) and hearing that we might get a comics accurate “real world” depiction had be hype af. I liked the Keaton version and everything but it seemed like it treated the source material as something in the way and I knew this would be something great. It’s one of the few times my expectations were exceeded,it was somehow better than I thought it would be. The sequel is an absolute masterpiece of course but I still prefer the first,if they were able to have Ledger’s Joker here it would be the perfect Batman movie but he obviously works better in the middle chapter. Dark Knight is a better movie but Begins is a better Batman movie. It’s the first time they realized these movies should be about Batman🤦🏻‍♂️

Liam Neeson told Bruce his name was Henri Ducard. The "Ra's" that died when the building exploded after he wouldn't execute the criminal was a decoy. I assume that if he'd have executed the guy and become a full member he would've been told that his teacher was the actual real Ra's. Either that or it's a title passed down. Sometimes I think the man Ken Watanabe played was the REAL Ra's.....until he died. And then it passed to Liam Neeson. And was meant to also pass to Bruce one day. Because he tells him at the beginning in the prison that he can become "a legend.." He's obviously not talking about becoming Batman because Bruce hasn't even thought of Batman yet. He means he would be Ra's al Ghul one day. Ra's al Ghul is Arabic for "head of the demon" or "head of the dragon" or something like that so it sounds more like a given title than a name. Maybe Liam Neeson WAS Ducard. And only became "Ra's" once the other one died. Because in the comics Ra's is immortal. LITERALLY immortal. In this since it's supposed to be less fantastical Ra's is immortal in a sense. As a title passed down..

In case you didn't catch it, Ras Al Ghul was not the Asian guy, it was Liam Neeson's character. The Asian guy was a cover.

Keep in mind the theme of Nolan's Batman trilogy is based on the idea, if Batman were to exist in the real world, how would that happen?

His dad didn't create things like that suit for himself. Wayne Corp. Is a company like Amazon. Amazon started as a book company. Now they have multiple markets open to them. Wayne Corp was making a suit for the military but the cost effectiveness was deemed to expensive so it remained as just a prototype like many of the other gadgets batman utilized.

Great reaction, guys! So glad you enjoyed this movie. There've been many adaptations depicting and explaining Batman's back story and origin, and this one is very artfully done. As I recall, "Batman Begins" touches on the reason why he's reluctant to kill. His father was a doctor, and instilled in him a deep respect for the preciousness of life. As such, Bruce sees it as wrong to take away human life in anger, or as a matter of convenience. So when Ducard/al Ghul presents him the opportunity, he realizes that he doesn't want to become some heartless executioner. There's a part of Bruce that wants to honour his parents' memory, and keep their legacy alive. Also, regarding the 'fear toxin' cure: As B.J. said, Batman was unconscious for two days. During that time, Lucius Fox (Freeman's character) was able to analyze his blood samples and create an antidote. He might have done it by extracting and studying the poison, or by creating some kind of serum from Bruce's blood itself. Have fun with your next video!

I love that this movie treats its characters with so much respect. You'd really expect Rachel to go "omg Bruce you're a batsuit crazy guy i love you" because that's what Hollywood's trained you to expect, but she's right, the version of Bruce she was in love with back in the day, that Bruce really is gone man. It's not Bruce who pretends to be batman for a while, he IS batman, and when he pretends to be Bruce it's an act.

Couldn't find anyone else saying something about it so: The original live action Batman was not a movie, it was a TV series with Adam West(who later would go on to be mayor of Quahog) as Bruce Wayne and Burt Ward as Dick Grayson/Robin. And that's what BJ was referring to. BTW, shout outs to my two favorite onomatopoeia words from that: "Bamf" and "Splonk"

On a sidenote, other example of fictional heroes, who made themselves “super“ human would be daredevil, the punisher, green arrow, green lantern, Iron Man, black widow, and Hawkeye to name a few. All these people, they all have one thing in common. They all had different origins and such but each one of these people were regular humans and do not have extraordinary powers. They are regular people who made themselves. I will say that daredevil is the exception of the bunch. I name because daredevil does have superhuman senses, but he basically is a trained martial artist and he does not have superhuman abilities outside of the senses.

Batman is my favorite superhero because he's more realistic, in the sense that he doesn't actually have superpowers, rather he relies on his wits and gadgets.

Asia - the Doctor was Dr. Crane aka Scarecrow. Lucius Fox is Morgan Freeman's character, and he runs Wayne Enterprises, and comes up with new toys for Batman to do his job. Ras' Al Ghoul is immortal. He runs the League of Shadows, and he's run into Batman several times, his daughter Talia and Batman were romantically involved. Ras is one of those that says you just got to wipe out Gotham and start over. The aerosol spray is just like BJ said- it intensifies your fears. Other notable villains mentioned are the Joker which is Batman's biggest baddie. Falconi is a mob boss. Victor Zasz is a serial killer. Not mentioned in the Rogues gallery - Penguin, Catwoman (sometimes they work together), Riddler, Mister Freeze, and Bane.

So a quick backstory on certain characters in Batman. The character that Morgan Freeman played is Lucius fox, he makes all of Batman's weapons. The character of the psychiatrist played by Cillian Murphy is Dr Johnathan Crane AKA The scarecrow. He created a chemical that he sprays his victims with to make them fear him and is a constant enemy of Batman. Henri Ducard played by Liam Neeson is Raj Al Ghul right hand man and also uses Raj Al Ghul as an alias as well was one of the mentors of Batman in his early years.

The flower was to face his phobia, he has no fear. Also the turning point was Rachel slapping hin and him throwing the gun away. Batman is against guns and he left the League of Shadows because he wanted to distance himself from being a vigilante

Quick rundown of the movie as I will try to explain it. Whole premise of this movie was to show the origins of Batman (his trauma of losing his parents) and how he met the League of Shadows. League of Shadows sought out Bruce Wayne as a potential recruit, hence when they found him in that prison, they offered him a way to redeem himself and overcome his fears. The flower was a test to see if he was worthy of joining the League of Shadows. While among them initially, Ra's purposefully concealed his identity, mainly as a way to see if Bruce could be trusted or not. The League of Shadows has existed for centuries in many forms, and its sole purpose is to wipe out civilizations where criminality is able to thrive. Because Bruce didn't want to become an executioner, that immediately put him at odds immediately with Ra's al Ghul and the League of shadows. Also, there was a brief moment where Bruce asked where he would be leading the army, and they told him to Gotham, to destroy it. This is what ultimately forced Bruce to not join them. Hence, when Bruce refused to be their champion (an executioner), they later sought out Crane (the Scarecrow), for him to weaponize the plants (flower) potent hallucinogens effect so that it could be used to ultimately destroy Gotham. Crane had his own ambitions, but the league simply used him as a pawn. When Bruce got poisoned, there was no antidote at that time. Alfred (the butler) called Lucius (morgan freeman) to have him take a sample of his blood and try to create a cure. This movie was very symbolic in many ways, and if you didn't pay close attention, you would be left confused as to why certain things happened. This is one of those movies where you watch it at least twice to catch everything. Also, this movie sets up the sequel (The Dark Knight), and this movie you will definitely need to watch at least 3x to catch the things that will be missed during the first watch through. Hope this explanation helps!

If you liked Batman Begins, The Dark Knight will blow your minds. One of the GREATEST movies EVER made! Quick thing, a main reason Bruce refused to stand with Raaz is Batman isn't about killing and Raaz wanted him to lead The League Of Shadows into Gotham to literally burn it to the ground. Once Bruce realized that (as Raaz had him set to kill a guy) he wasn't bout that and destroyed that place to stop them from coming after Gotham they way they had planned. Watch The Dark Knight ASAP...
