Nolan's trilogy is, in my opinion, the definitive Batman story. It was so incredibly well done that it inspired a darker tone for DC movies and even inspired the Arrow tv show. However, even though many tried to duplicate the tone and success of Nolan's trilogy, no one never ever really succeeded. Yet anyway.

Batman Begins is such an underrated film and for me if you just take out the superhero part from it’s just a masterpiece of film simple as that. The cast is great and I would call it “Hollywood Royalty”. Christian Bale is such an amazing actor and Bruce Wayne aka ‘Batman’ is one of his most iconic characters as it’s up there with American Psycho and many other movies of his. I loved the backstory of Batman told in this film as it’s so raw, deep, real and it’s got this myth feeling to it which I love. Liam Nesson was great as Ra’s Al Ghul the antagonist as he’s such a great actor as well. Loved your reaction/analysis, take care, stay healthy, enjoy life and have a good one.

And in most comic continuities, he really doesn't need prep time because he's a master tactician. Like in the Hush story, when he and Catwoman are running from a Poison Ivy controlled Superman. This movie left me in awe of how well they treated the material, with the Nolan touch as well, it made a spectacular film version of the Batman world. It's its own version of the characters, but they get the soul of the characters right, mostly, especially the Joker in the next movie, even if the superficial details are different, it feels like the closest versions of the comic characters brought to life. The Batman 2022 recently did this with other characters too. And here Nolan put the spotlight on characters like Alfred, Fox, Gordon, and made them all shine, thanks to the great performances. Even Bruce got to shine in a way he had not in the comics during the time. I started reading the Batman comics way back in 1993, and there are so many, many stories that can be done with the characters that haven't been touched or hinted at in the various TV series, cartoons, or movies, besides those tired well-known comic stories. If there was a single showrunner guiding the stories Batman is its own cinematic universe, with many great characters not known to the general audiences. The best and unique thing is that Batman lends itself to many kinds of genres, from the campy to the action packed to noir detective stories to crazy science fiction to horror and an amalgamation of all. Reading through the decades with many talented writers I was sold on the genres I was skeptical about.
@cassieberringer7427 Жыл бұрын
You're right that both Marvel's Infinity saga and Nolan's Batman trilogy are masterpieces, but for very different reasons. Marvel was able to capture the perfect balance to bring a whole plethora of comics to life in a fun and fulfilling way. Nolan introduces Batman to the artwork of film making. Nolan utilizes all the aspects of film to communicate a story and make it an art piece. And to your other question, yes I was a batman fan and this is one of the few movies I had to watch over and over again after seeing it the first time because it was so fantastic. As far as I know this (nor any of the Nolan movies) does not follow any comic book story as a whole, but he instead takes story elements from multiple and puts them together. Mostly due to the fact that he put multiple villains into one movie.

I've commented elsewhere, I think this trilogy is the single best superhero arc on film, while I feel *Iron Man* (2008) is the single best stand-alone superhero movie. These Nolan Batman movies really surprise me, because try as they may, classic DC movies never do anything for me (sometimes I even fall asleep, lately). *Watchmen* (2009) was also really good, and that's a DC property, though I hear the movie doesn't do the comic justice. But anyway, imo, this trilogy is outstanding.

I have disagree about intentionally not saving someone being the same as killing, not even remotely so. That would be akin to not stopping assault/attack/pursesnatching that's happening as you walk by, but because no one stepped in to help they're labeled as an attacker. In the instance of this movie, Ra's did it to himself. He shouldn't have been there to begin with. Ra's should've "minded his surroundings" better.

The Dark Knight Trilogy is the quintessential superhero trilogy. Batman Begins jumps it off just nicely. When Christopher Nolan was announced to renew Batman's saga on film, I was excited to see what he could do. Christian Bale was the best Bruce Wayne/Batman as being able to become both at the same time. Casting of other players around Bale is top notch for these characters, villains, allies, etc The writing, producing and vision was Ultra-realistic. The locations are a mixture of sets and actual places. Very well crafted to this world in which Batman exists. Still as dark and serious as possible. Resetting the bar for Batman's legacy on film and a new example for superhero franchises in reboot mode. Check out Nolan's earlier films, Memento (2000) & Insomnia (2002), both are amazing.

Jax, I told you this when you originally uploaded it, and I'll say it again: I've been meaning to ask you to do this series! This one is my favourite superhero movie ever. It comes up with the best superhero motivation ever, and one that even the MCU can't do better. You realise that when Bruce says "As a symbol, I can be incorruptible." That's the true representation of a superhero. You're the only one who's managed to work out what the "big plan" is as early as you did. Nobody else has managed to link the microwave device to the toxin and the water supply that quickly. All the same, that evil scientist was protected from his drugs by his scarecrow mask. Loved your reaction to the "lift a b****y log" line. Michael Caine (now retired) was an amazing actor. Every film in this series has the best cast ever. The revalation that the League "burned London to the ground", they were talking about the Great Fire of London in September 1666. It started in a bakery in Pudding Lane. In primary school, I played King Charles II in a school play about that fateful event, so it truly hits home for me. You really need to brace yourself for The Dark Knight if and when you get to it. 13:41 "We have _purged_ your fear." This plays in to a common misconception. Courage is not fearlessness. It is the ability to _face_ fear. Consistently, in manifestation after manifestation, Batman displays _courage._ He faces fear, and he _recognizes_ it as fear, but it does not _stop_ him. He still _has_ it, though, as a useful source of information. Fearlessness points to the inability to _experience_ fear. Someone fearless is someone never afraid, no matter what. In other words, a fool. Only a fool is never afraid. To purge Bruce Wayne of fear would be to do him a _disservice._

Ah the DC Marvel universes, and I'm speaking the comics. I grew up reading DC then Marvel was born. The DC universe was composed of fictional cities, Smallville, Gotham, Metropolis, etc. while Marvel was set in the real world, New York with Brooklyn, Queens, Long Island then the West Coast so it was easy for the super heroes to bump into each other. Anyway Nolan's adaptation of Frank Miller's Dark Knight brought back The Batman many of us grew to love: dark, intelligent, exploiting the superstitious criminals, an expert fighter, a detective using modern techniques and a compassionate man to the downtrodden. 53:02 - "The house was really symbolic of Batman's character." Exactly right. And its foundations lie in the caves beneath. And you'll notice the recurring theme of water in the caves. I think the water represents the long tradition of the Batman character dating back to his first appearance in 1939 - sort of a fountainhead, the inspiration that gave birth to "Batman". And early in Batman Begins, when Bruce is in the Chinese prison and is visited by Ra's al Ghul, on the wall behind Bruce you can see a small water spigot dripping water - just a small trickle, symbolizing the beginning of Batman.

45:26 That same misconception that _Speed_ catered to is present, here. Batman and Ra's al Ghul are fighting each other on a train no one else is riding; not even the conductor. There is currently no one in the cockpit, yet the train is moving. Since the 1920's it has been federal law that every train used in the US must have a dead man switch in the cockpit. Whoever wants to drive the train must keep constant _pressure_ on it or else the brakes will engage and the train will stop. So just as there was no reason the train in _Speed_ should've kept moving, there is no reason _this_ train should keep moving.

10/10 A first class movie. A young Bruce Wayne watches in horror, as his parents are killed in front of him, later in life, he vows to remove the criminal element from Gotham City. A word on Christopher Nolan first, I am a huge fan, I think of Inception, Dunkirk and Interstellar, but his magical trio of Batman movies began here, a movie that put the franchise back on top. I'm not always sold on origins movies, there have been several misfires, this is one of, if not the best, it feels very organic, at no point does it try too hard, or overdo it, the balance between story, introduction, action and character, pretty much perfect. The Cinematography is incredible almost twenty years on, the choreography, fight scenes look terrific, made at a time where the purpose of the music was to assist the film and not to drown it out, it is also excellent. Christian Bale was perfect casting, one of the best actors in the business, he is first rate, the balance between Bruce Wayne and Batman is spot on, what a skilled actor he is. An incredible supporting cast, Cillian Murphy is equally as good as Bale, putting in a fiendishly creepy and sinister performance as Crane, Freeman, Caine, Neeson, Oldman, I don't think it could have gotten any better than this. Fantastic, 10/10.

Filmed in Chicago, IL, Britain, and Iceland. Director C’Nolan is English, but lived in Chicago for a few years. (I lived there too, for 9, college and work). So streets, EL trains, buildings, river bridges - some digital additions. In Britain, the Wayne House, some locations outside, and studios. There is a large arched hanger where British blimps were housed - they built some section of Gotham inside to blow-up and wreck; in the Midlands. Iceland is the China section, in Winter.

3:20 - RE: "So he's gonna be part of a League of Shadows..."; A: Yes, and ultimately this is as close as Bruce Wayne comes to magical powers which would make him more than human. Nolan did do well establishing a counterbalance in this film between the threat of Rhas Al Ghul's magic and force of will and Bruce's abundant wealth and strength of will.

^^ And RE: The Identity of Rhas Al Ghul; Fun Fact! Is actually the name of a star in the constellation of Perseus, AKA Algol.

12:31 "Is that illegal, to steal from _you?"_ I mean, it might cause problems if you decide to press charges, and end up in court as both the plaintiff _and_ the defendant. How weird would _that_ be.

The Narrows is like a borough to Gotham, like Brooklyn is to New York. The Narrow side is just the side toward the Narrows of that building. I still wonder why this movie wasn't received better than The Dark Knight. Heath Ledger was awesome, but this movie was more complete and better overall. I've been under sedation and no, it does take a minute or 2 to recover your bearings. But the movie isn't going to waste screen time on that minor detail when action is eminent slowing the pace of the movie. This trilogy does not venture outside the Batman universe, so all the characters are of Batman origins. These 3 movies are a self-contained reimagined version of Batman and are not canon outside the trilogy unto itself (It doesn't fit other Batman canon versions, but is canon only to itself). Characters are different though the names are the same. Still a great film.

The prison where Bruce was, in the Himalayan mountain ranges, probably in India-Bhutan border. Basically the league of shadows belong from The Himalayan mountain ranges. @reactswithjax

Michael Caine up to his 60s was a very fit snd strong fella, he was once a special operations soldier in the Korean War.

I never knew Michael Caine was a soldier!
@carlossaraiva82139 ай бұрын
@@reactswithjax Not many people do. In fact his latest movie is about a WWII veteran who goes to a Normandy celebration gathering and he mets there also german soldiers as well. Caine does play older than he is but not by much as he is in his mid 80s this days. The trailer alone is very moving. Michael Caine is an amazing actor, few others can bring in the tearjerk in a film scene like him.

I was 8 & 9 yrs. old (62 yrs. ago) when I first started reading DC comics (Batman & Superman). And I was 11 &12 yrs. old when I started reading Marvel comics..!! They were 10 cents each & $1.00 a week allowance kept me plenty entertained.!! I've been reading them ever since (& everything else...I'm a writer/ filmmaker..). One word description for the Christopher Nolan "Batman Trilogy"....MASTERPIECE.!!! Also have to say that (MASTERPIECE.!!) about the first phase of the Marvel movies..."The Infinity Saga"..!!! Of course I do consider "The Lord of The Rings"..another MASTERPIECE.!! And while we're considering THAT word....The Dennis Villaneuve "DUNE" movies look to be shaping-up to also... "make the cut"...???!!! Love your reactions..!! Thx.!!

2005 this movie came out in theaters I was 15 and omg I was over the moon as a Batman fan. I was in the theater smiling the whole time knowing they finally got him right. And I can’t imagine comics fans not loving this movie. Cause wow this movie just nailed it. And of course I love the rest of the trilogy but this definitely holds a special place in my heart. So as a bat fan this trilogy and the Batman with Robert Pattinson are my favorite live action Batman films

Everybody knows that this movie was directed by Christopher Nolan. But everybody also forgets the writer who did such a great job writing the script and dialogues - Jonathan Nolan (the other brother of Christopher Nolan). Kudos to Jonathan Nolan ❤

Jonathan Nolan co-wrote The Dark Knight. The co-writer of this movie is David Goyer, who also co-wrote The Crow movie.
