I know next to nothing about this comic, but it seems like Batman had the epiphany that Joker, in his warped way, always saw what he and Batman were doing as fun and games. Like, Joker *continuously* makes it crystal clear that everything is funny to him, but apparently Batman just dismissed it as insane ranting. Instead of addressing the root of Joker’s problem, Batman just beat his face in over and over. Joker, not getting the help he needed, just went on more killing sprees. So now Batman is kicking himself because he figured out the *real* solution at the last minute, just before both of them died.

My interpretation is this joker is constantly telling everybody how life is meaningless. He wants me to feel like fool for futilely fighting for meaning in their life. But the joker is made to look like the biggest fool of all. Because as much as he loves to claim that life is meaningless. He spent the last moment of his life not enjoying the blood that was spill, the fight he had or the chaos he cause. Rather he spent the last minute in misery since he failed to save himself from dying. And that is the fundamental contradiction in nihilism. While claiming that nothing matters and nothing is worth living for. They still cling to life and live every day.

The way I see it, through out this story, Joker had been trying to convince Batman and his allies that he was an immortal who had been around long before Batman. Naturally, Batman wasn’t having any of it, and proposes that Joker simply found the pit by accident is all. When Bruce grabbed Joker and was asking for forgiveness, he was actually taunting Joker.

Death is only inevitable until it isn't. Humans live roughly 80 years, while some tortoises live for thousands of years. Some Jelly Fish are believed to be a couple thousand years old. Like all things, it's a matter of perspective, and I certainly dislike the ideology of anti-immortality. In a matter of persoective, age doesn't really matter. And immortality would be excellent for space exploration. The number one factor is not everyone can have immortality, but the flip side is immortality just means unable to die of old age, so it's not really a fact, and think about this, it's a 9 month trip, hypothetically, to mars. That's almost a whole year, which is ridiculous, but if we live a thousand years, it's nothing. Just a minor pitstop. And if we wanna go fartyer, we'll need it. Say we wanna go to Titan, try and establish something there. It could be like a 40 year trip, half our lives just to get there, nvm getting back. Such a waste ngl.
