I am SO excited for this. I'm loving the Clayface version they're going with, as I find the hysterical actor interpretation of the character scarier than the more overtly monstrous versions. Their design for Two-Face also looks really impressive. This whole series is shaping up to be something special, I think!

The only thing pushing me away is Harley. Her character is less is more and I’ve seen her nonstop. Suicide Squad game essentially killed her for me.

I'm with you on being sick of Harley Quinn. She was great in the DCAU and the first two Arkham games (haven't played the others), but outside of that she's used way too much and shoved into everything even when she's not necessary to a story.

It honestly feels like the concept for Hugo Strange (a Psychologist Bat villain). Then they decide to give it to Harley to revamp her instead risk spotlighting a lesser known character. Again, I don’t hate it. It just feels like a stretch.

I get where your coming from there. She’s definitely been one of those characters that’s been overused in recent years and it’s understandable to get bored of her. That being said, I think this version of Harley defiantly feels like a different twist than what’s come before and I think there’s a ton of potential for her to be great in this. We’ll have to wait and see though.

Honestly i hope this show will be just like the DCAU in terms of the age rating perfect for both kids and adults, I can already picture a stellar voice cast and writing team.

That's my hope, too. It can be a little more adult, certainly. But we don't need lots of swearing or buckets of blood. A few little tweaks to the formula of BTAS is all they really need considering that show was already very mature.

You are not the only one who confused Gordon with Fox. Also they kept the African American Gordon like how he was in THE BATMAN movie beacouse its a thing DC does, to make sure people know properly who is the character, so they base this new version from the previous project he was in.

I’m super fascinated by this version of Harley. Her using psychiatry as a weapon in her villainy is a cool concept (almost reminds me of the Scarecrow minus the fear toxin, what with the psych turned creepy villain stuff). Also her having a direct connection to Bruce Wayne as his psychiatrist is a natural way to connect her to Batman and could really up the stakes, what with that type of semi-personal connection and her likely knowing a ton of Bruce’s secrets. I can easily see some tense scenes playing out in that office where she tries to subtly manipulate Bruce through their therapy. A very big departure from a lot of the other Harley versions but I see a lot of amazing potential for her as a villain.

I'm curious as to how they'll handle Harley here, considering they want to try to define her as separate from the Joker in this series. Does that imply that Joker won't appear and that she'll take his place as the main villain to Batman? Or maybe he'll appear later on but have no association with Harley? If it's the former then that'd be a bold creative chose, and we'd have to see how well that'll work. I also like her new costume. Still a jester outfit, but clearly not the same as her BTAS look, with different color scheme to boot. I'd like to see how the rest of the costume looks. Might be fun to do some fan art of that.

I want to see them try to adapt the villain Bedbug - who uses insects to control people as they sleep. TERRIFYING design, and a really unique, unsettling gimmick. I'm shocked he's never appeared more.

I love seeing previous concepts or designs from the comics get repolished or reinvented in a way to fit the atmosphere of the new batman show. I hope many major rogues get similar treatment as Clayface did design wise (Penguin, Killer Croc, Riddler). I'm hoping underutilized or underexplored characters we saw in BTAS are included in this new show in better and more refined and defined roles and stories (Ventriloquist/Scarface, Rupert Thorne, and Hugo Strange). Most major of my hopes is that rogues that never got into BTAS can get explored and reinvented from their original sources (Eraser, Ma Parker, Egghead, Gaggy, etc.)

After looking at these images, I am very impressed and love what I'm seeing, it's definitely got that retro golden age look to it with cool nods to the 1939 debut and the classic comic books of the 40s-50s. Out of all of the villains, Clayface looks the best, he looks incredible and downright scary, I'm really looking forward to seeing him the most when he appears in an episode. I think overall it's going to shape up to be an amazing show, I can't wait

And that was a good thing because it was a DCU show with Batman giving his opinion on the silver and bronze ages with a few golden age flashbacks, but keeping all heroes on one Earth (as done from 1986 on for simplicity reasons), as well as allowing Ryan Choi, Jaime Reyes and Stargirl to have fun in the sci-fi shenanigans era...also this is one of the few timelines where AJ Curry lives...Timmverse and Young Justice being the other two.

It will be interesting to see if they finally decide to utilize the Cavalier in a meaningful way. The comic introduced him in 1943 and for a while it looked like he would go on to be a prominent villain. I recall Timm saying that he wanted to feature him in a couple of episodes in the Animated Series but at the time Marty Pasko put his foot down and explicitly forbade it and I don't recall any reason he gave for doing so. A character like his would certainly be a welcome change from the standard fare of femme fatales and nihilistic, mentally unstable edgelords to which we've grown accustomed over the past 20 or so years.

there’s a lot of characters who could’ve been in BTAS but weren’t, namely nocturna who was going to have a bit of a romance with batman, but they turned it down because of how much blood it would include. (Nocturna is somewhat of a vampire, it’s confusing, she’s from the bronze age i believe.)

Post-Crisis Nocturna: Not a vampire but can affect people's minds through their nasal receptors. New 52 Nocturna: A full-fledged vampire. Caped Crusader Nocturna/ Natalia Knight: There was a leak that showed images of the characters. Natalia Knight a.k.a Nocturna was one of them. This one could possibly be a vampire since Bruce was really trying to get her in the show, but maybe she's not a vampire in this. Who knows?

I think the reason there are so few superhero cartoons throughout the 2010s was because action cartoons as a whole were basically dead. In the 90s and 2000s superhero shows were everywhere and now it seems they are making a comeback.

I looked at the interview. Considering Harley is a therapist for a lot of the Gotham elite, not just Bruce, I'm guessing she'll be using her alter-ego to go after her clients, who are probably serious scumbags but she can't exactly do much thanks to doctor-patient confidentiality. That would be an interesting twist... Edit: Something I saw on another page. If Harley is asian-american and this is a post World War II Gotham, then she was probably locked up in the internment camps. That probably isn't good for someone's mental health...

I'd love Joker to be more like his very first appearance where he's a lot colder and more calculating than other interpretations. I am looking forward to seeing this. Honestly it's refreshing to see that they will be using some outfits that are reminiscent of ones from the comics. I have to admit that at first I didn't like the yellow and green Harley outfit. But literally a few hours later I fell in love with it. It reminds me of something you would see on an old powder compact from the twenties and thirties. Right up my alley.

I wonder how will be this show take on Alfred , considering how his Golden Age version was very different from the character fans know: He's a bit more chubby (instead of thin with mustache), is aspiring detective and, most important, he WASN'T the Waynes butler nor took care of Bruce (in those comics, his guardian was his uncle Phillip Kane). The two only met when Bruce was already an adult and adopted Dick Grayson. I could easly see the first episode adapting his first apperance, with Alfred showing up at the Wayner manor, saying that he's a friend of Bruce's father and the billionaire, despite not wanting to risk his secret, decides to accept Alfred as his butler, which leads to him discover Bruce's secret and becoming his ally and mentor figure.

The thin-mustache version came after 1943's serial...and the comics wrote it in as "Alfred went on a diet"...because the Lewis Wilson/Douglas Croft serial got so popular...even Linda Paige carried over into the Earth-2 comics at one point...since in the serials she was Selina Kyle in all but name...and the Earth-2 Bruce did say that she was Selina's only competition, but a masks removal of fear of the respective creature made the cat and the bat exchange rings and have a Huntress.

Looking at Catwoman's costume, there's this prevalent design choice I see in many women characters in superhero media; the belt slung around the hips instead of wrapped around the waist; like as if they're wearing low-riding jeans. It's not a good look and I wish costume designers would stop doing that. Personally, I would give Catwoman a 'V' shaped belt. It would match the shape of her plunging neckline, and put the cat ears of her belt buckle inline with the straps.

I am so hyped for this! I will say, the thing that I've been waiting on the most from new Batman adaptations, is a Batman who is closer in empathy, humanity, and fallability to the BTAS one. BTAS Batman, alongside the Justice League cartoon Batman, is usually the one people bring up when they talk about how Batman does care about his rogues gallery, knows that they are people who are suffering and need help, and is aware that there is a very thin line separating himself from them as he is also a traumatized individual who dons a costume and uses fear as a weapon. The fallability comes in that, if you rewatch BTAS, you might notice that Batman takes some hits, even from normal mobsters, and it helps separating him from just being a power fantasy, keeps the fight scenes exciting, and is utilized to emphasize that all it takes is for one random guy to get lucky, and then Batman is out of the picture.

Hard agree there. I hate the 'Batman's crazy and is just as bad as his villains' shtick a lot of people seem to believe. Batman's a caring, empathetic man who chooses an extreme path so others won't suffer as he did. I really hope this show understands that aspect of him, and doesn't go overboard with the brooding and violence. Fundamentally, Bruce is a good and honorable man. That's what they need to keep in mind.

I think the way I could see this panning out in this show, is that Batman starts out more morally dubious and detached, but as the series progresses, he becomes a more empathetic and caring person

But i still like Matt Hagen / Ron Perlman Clayface grom BTAS But thrn i really like Ron as Skade in Tern Tita s But yeah I'm a little skeptical because i like thr BTAS version so much

Yeah I could be reading into that statement way too much. I’d be shocked if he didn’t appear at all. What would be cool is if he appeared as The Red Hood for the first season and didn’t become the Joker until much later.

I'm very much looking forward to this series. I especially like the Batman and Catwoman designs. I prefer the Dr. Harleen Quinzel look over the Harley Quinn design. The Clayface design looks badass. Commissioner Gordon sort of has a J. Jonah Jameson look to him.

I'm going to give this show a chance because while they took some creative choices I find debatable, the art is really refreshing, the takes sound interesting and I like that the adult characters look like adults. I do hope they will include the Joker though because he's a staple villain in Batman.

I think it's very likely that, considering the involvement of Matt Reeves, they might do something similar to The Batman movie where Joker is already someone Batman has dealt with and is always shown in Arkham Asylum. Perhaps they reserve him for future seasons.

Dating your co-workers is asking for trouble...see GL-Hawkwoman Do you really think rich kids and royals should date? Especially when one rich kid admits he has issues...lots of issues and the royal is pretty much an Ariel type. This is the polite way of him saying "I like you Diana, but if you're Ariel, I'm not Eric, you need an Eric." Talia would killing any love of Bruce's just to annoy him...and will go as far as making sure the day she does it is on the day Bruce intends to propose (Batwoman 1).

When I think of a psychologist using his psychology as a weapon, I think of Scarecrow. Sorry but I can't take Quinn seriously as a scary villain. A fun villain but not a scary villain. I just hope Scarecrow is the main antagonist for the first season. I do not mind Catwoman's look but I love the appearance for Clayface. They are going back to the golden age look. That is cool. With all that said, personally I wish Bruce and his team produced a Flash cartoon. Seriously Batman has a dozen cartoons he does not need another one. A cartoon about The Flash would be great! And it is nice to hear the old background music again.

I can't see Scarface working in the setting. He's supposed to be a pastiche of classic gangster archetypes, so in a story wearing a 1940s sheen it might just blend in too much.

Yes, James Tucker was the art lead on Brave and the Bold, and he loves his references to the classic comics. You could even see his influence in the villain of Justice League Unlimited - very true to their comic book counterparts.

Always with their sensationalist titles, those news articles. 1:06: The old comics gloves looks grey or blue to me, not purple. Beware the Batman loses points for not having a proper conclusion, not unlike The Spectacular Spider-Man. A Harley Quinn that actually gaslights with a dayjob outside whatever villainy she is doing... OK, that easily piqued me. Apart from the cleavage (though that's just a personal nitpick, not a characterization one), that's a good Catwoman suit. Cape might suddenly get ditched sometime though, possibly for character development. That's Clayface?! I thought that was Scarecrow or some obscure Zorro-esque Batman villain now brought to life in animated form! 8:01: Hmm. That motive of that original Basil Karlo actually ages well, nowadays, except its the occasional fans who are the aggressors. OK, now the show seems to scare me in one thing: the name J.J. Abrams is something I never heard positive things from (especially as a Star Wars fans like me) ever since Mission Impossible III ended. That is a good movie, though I still have a bias on Brad Bird's Ghost Protocol. However, Abrams' involvement in messes such as Lost, Star Trek's Kelvinverse, and the Disney Star Wars Alt-universe are dark specks that may or may not be cleaned off by this up and coming show.
