Ohh they definitely can take a while. I've encountered glitches, hit by the swords of Ra's Al Ghul's ninjas when they suddenly decide to swing ultra fast, interrupted during beat downs on Armored Thugs, and that list goes on. Batman is the easiest to win with for obvious reasons with Robin being the hardest.
