On the one hand this is a good story. On the other hand I’m... what word am I looking for? Irritated? Incredulous? Bemused? I don’t know how to feel about Joker venom going from being a simple laughing gas in the earlier comics to being the magic mind control chemical it is today. A magic chemical that causes people to adopt Joker’s complex philosophy, “see” the world the way he does, and act the way he would if he was them. The ideas that a simple chemical cocktail could do all that in a person’s mind stretches the bounds of disbelief, or something similar to that, for me. This magic chemical is the driving force behind The Batman Who Laughs. The reason he is the way he is. It’s the reason his Joker was an absurdist nihilist that killed people. This stupid magic chemical. It’s like if you made a mind control gas that converted people to one particular religion against their will, hacking their cognitive decision making skills. The idea that the Joker and TBWL are the way they are because a chemical hijacked their decision making skills and not because they had “One bad day” that they cognitively reacted to in their own idiosyncratic ways kind of cheapens it all.

They should retcon it to be his blood. The way they should say how Batman Who Laughs got the blood injected is that he was one of the worst unprepared Batmen of the multiverse, but still Batman, so a genius. Joker somehow managed to infect him with his blood by surprise since he isn't the greatest of Dark Knights.

Only Superman is infected with the Joker Toxin so that they could trick the Batman Who Laughs. The others such as Shazam or in this chapter, Blue Beetle got stabbed with a batarang made from Nth Metal infused with BWL's toxin so it works. He's had prep time and he's been studying and not to mention watching just like the real batman does with the justice league and brother eye. Because the batman who laughs is bruce wayne from a different universe with the joker toxin him so he's still the same untrusting quick witted calculating detective who's just on the offensive due to being driven by the insanity of the toxin because the joker made the toxin specifically for Batman to experience the core message that the joker experienced and then explained to batman with the Joker seemingly using as a excuse during the killing joke that all it takes is for someone to have a bad day and then they can snap seemingly turning a normal person and one bad day can cause them to snap and become a insane murder. The joker could tell Batman didn't believe that. That crazy is born crazy and it occurs when they give in to it. So joker made it his mission via by initiating totally unusual and unpredictable seemingly random and crazy plans in motion biding his time until he could prove all of takes is flipping out completely to be transformed into that.
