It's worth noting that Nocturna was not originally a vampire and vampirism was in no way part of her early appearances (that would change when her character was rebooted for the New 52). I may be in the minority here, but I'm actually glad that a lot of these lost episodes didn't get made, at least as part of B:TAS. In regards to the DCAU, I always felt that it kind of follows something of the "escalation" idea from Batman Begins in terms of threat level, superpowers, and overt supernatural aspects of DC Comics. Taking TAS on its own, it's only slightly more heightened than Nolan Batman. However around the time Superman jumps onto the scene the universe seems to become a much bigger place and the sky gets to be the limit for what's possible, even in Batman's circle, during TNBA and S:TAS. It then grows even larger yet in Static, Justice League, and JLU, before seeming to shrink a bit in the future of Beyond and Zeta, taking place after the age of heroes. Long story short, a lot of these episodes seem to me that they would have worked much better even in the tone of TNBA (where things are only getting sorta crazy) than TAS. I mean, in TAS, Zatanna is only a slight-of-hand magician, not a real weilder of magic. I get they couldn't have known that they'd have the time they later would have to tell said stories, so they naturally wanted to go for broke with every idea they had. However, as with "Epilogue," I prefer the versions of these stories we'd later get in other shows and movies headed by this team in the future. Nevertheless, a really interesting topic as usual Mattie!

Don't forget Morbius in Spider-Man 94. I appreciate Bruce Timm offering alternatives for Nocturna but WB and Fox Kids got cold feet. Instead of just draining Batman of his "blood", she will drain him of his "plasma" or "energy" kinda like how Morb did. It won't turn him into a vampire but it'll result in him being way too tired to go out as Batman and he'll need an alternative to counter that so stuff like this won't happen again.

Sandman would probably be "too weird" for BTAS - early seasons it would feel out of place, and later seasons I don't think they would do it justice. But I bet Brave and the Bold could have pulled it off very nicely - Brave and the Bold was "wacky" enough they could have transitioned straight into "Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader?"
@PosthumanHeresy3 жыл бұрын
I think it would have worked fine with the early tone of BTAS before the "more Robin" mandate. Batman only spends a little bit of time in The Dreaming, and with commercials each episode loses around like 7 minutes. That's enough time for a cold open of Batman being brutalized and going unconscious, him encountering Death and Morpheus up to the first commercial break, and the final part spent on showing him his impact. Leave most of the lore out of it, it's not needed for the story. The important thing is Batman is having a near-death experience, the beings that define reality/unreality and life/death (the line he straddles and the war he wages) for his universe visit him and allow him a chance to choose which of them he is more an agent of, and he chooses Morpheus. You don't even need any of the reality angle, just the "inspiring humanity vs. peace" angle. It's presented in the lore that each of the Endless define their realm and the inverse, and so Morpheus also defines reality. There's plenty to support that in story. So he and Death share an inverse, our realm. That also fits the lore. But Batman as a thing is directly spawned by an act of Death, straddles the real and the unreal, and is a being of the night beyond simply operating there but rather truly mastering it. At the same time, he endlessly fights for life but causes an endless wake of death in doing so because he won't kill. It basically is the same theme as "Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader?", but from a perspective of "Batman gets offered an out by Death and Dream in what was most definitely a bet when he's being grouchy about humans, Batman refuses to quit".
@Alejandroigarabide4 жыл бұрын
Now that the series is more popular than ever, 2D animation is cheaper than ever, and the original series was already produced out of the correct order, Paul Dini and Bruce Timm could make a new season for HBO Max to fill-in some gaps (how certain characters first met, or their untold origin stories, for example) or include deeper concepts from deleted episodes. The same could be made for Darkwing Duck in Disney+ BTW. That show was also produced out of order and featured several characters without an origin.

There was an unproduced Batman TAS episode called "The Count and the Countess." I think the script for this unproduced episode was written by Buzz Dixon (who wrote the teleplay for Episode "Cat Scratch Fever"). In 2010 interview with Lone Fan, Buzz said " I actually wrote three scripts for “Batman: The Animated Series”. The first involved a brand new pair of villains, a father and daughter Eurotrash team. That got me hired, but the script was eventually put aside when they decided to concentrate on established trademarked licensed characters. The next script was “Cat Scratch Fever” which was based on a story by Sean Catherine Derek; it was good and fun and marked the beginning of Catwoman’s gradual turn from 100% bad to half and half. The third script was “Beware The Creeper” which Steve Gerber asked me to help out on since he was facing deadline pressure."

Well, seeing how DC has been making animated movies with a bit more edge for the DCAU, maybe the vampire Batman story could be it's own movie? Plus, the episode where a bunch a villains have tricks and traps to try to get Batman and the return of the sixties villains could be one episode. Seeing that the sixties villains where used in two animated Adam West (may he rest in peace) Batman movies.
