The music sounds better than the Atari ST version despite having the same soundchip. It's rather close to the amazing C64 sound.

That menu music goes hard as hell. I mostly hated my Specy as a kid, and couldn't wait to get a NES, but I always appreciated the music in the Ocean games I had for it.

A better game than Robocop with a bit more variety to gameplay and more tunes. Mike Lamb certainly had a successful time with Ocean with this, Robocop, Target Renegade, Wec Le Mans among others

Marc Oliveras I had a Amstrad CPC464 and it was exactly the same.... genius really how a game can be loaded and played through sounds off of a audio tape!
@KnightmareUSA8 жыл бұрын
+Marc Oliveras No different to the games of today, they varied quite a bit although I think games generally got bigger (especially for those games that were 128k). On average I think you would be lucky if games were under 4 mins, around the late 80s-early 90s. Some cassette software had a higher pitched loading sound than the above though, which I suspect was some sort of optimised fast-load. After 1990 I think just about every kid or early teen ditched their 8-bit gear to annoy-convince their parents to buy them a Sega Megadrive :)
@josedourado37478 жыл бұрын
+MrVidification it was called turbo load and it was easier to fail to load the game at the slightest interference. we suffered alot :)

Many multi-load games loaded up all the levels at once on a Speccy 128k. On a 48k machine, this game would load the first level more quickly, but then say "press play on tape" after finishing it. And if you lost all lives in level 2, it'd say "rewind tape and press play" to go back to the first level. 128k forever. :)

aw that sound of the game loading lol so happy to hear that. Hey, you seem to be the guy to ask, i used to have a wee book with my spectrum and i would sit for hours (i was about 5) copying all the commands line after line, then once i copied every line i would press enter/return and a pattern would be displayed on the screen. do you know what the book is called by anychance?
@doncristobalaspee59259 жыл бұрын
+SINGLE DAD, GAMING MAD It could be any of the "learn basic programming" books for the spectrum, or even the manual that came with it.
@KnightmareUSA8 жыл бұрын
+SINGLE DAD, GAMING MAD If you are bored, google and install Spectaculator. After setting it to +2 or +2A mode, enter BASIC from the menu, and type: 10 for f=1 TO 255 STEP 10 20 PLOT 0,0: DRAW f,175: PLOT 255,0: DRAW -f,175 30 NEXT f Press enter after each line, then type RUN and enter. I still remember that one, it was a pattern in the +2 manual. Lowering the 'steps' would give a more detailed image :)

They both had very similar sound hardware, with very similar capabilities: ZX Spectrum: General Instrument AY-3-8910. Game Gear: Texas Instruments SN76489 Ironically the Spectrum had a slight advantage over the Game Gear in the audio stakes, since the Spectrum could still make use of the 1-bit beeper to create sound effects; instead of having to mix it with the music on the audio channels.
