One of the greatest Batman movies ever created, live action or animated. Jensen Ackles gives an all timer performance as Red Hood that still hasn’t been followed, and Bruce Greenwood is a seriously underrated Batman. He plays the character so well in this movie and in Young Justice

I like that they got Judd Winnick, the writer of the original story in the comics, to write this screenplay. It allowed him to have a revised and more grounded take on Jason’s return, and the story as a whole is a lot more focused. Also, hot take: John DiMaggio is one of the best to ever play Joker and might be my personal favorite.

Jason Todd as Red Hood is the best example of an "edgy" character done right. He has easily become one of the best DC characters and his comics (Red Hood and the Outlaws, Red Hood and Arsenal, Task Force Z, etc.) are proof that even without the other BatFam members, he is more than capable of carrying a series as the protagonist. I love his rocky relationships with the other BatFam members too

Final Crisis is what you're remembering. Superboy Prime's reality shattering punch brought him back. Then he got retconned as revived by Ra's, memory-loss + violent insanity gets helped by Talia til he goes on a bruce-like journey of learning from the worst of the worst, then leads into hush etc

This movie is tied with Mask of the Phantasm, and The Dark Knight Trilogy and The Dark Knight Returns animated movies for my favorite Batman movies of all time. I remember never even looking up who Red Hood was before seeing this and the absolute surprise I felt when I learned who he was. And the cast of this movie just knocked it so damn far out of the park, especially the actors who played Batman, Red Hood and Joker.

Something I do find interesting about how the way comics have changed is that Jason Todd when he came back was originally a villain. He was a bad guy a part of Batman's rogue's gallery then somewhere down the line he became an antihero. That's what everyone knows him better as like an anti-hero but a large amount of people forget he was a villain for a long time.

Funny that Coy brings up Hamlet: When Kevin Conroy started Batman: The Animated Series, he only knew Adam West's Batman. When Bruce Timm explained it more to him, the Juliard actor had an epiphany: "he's Hamlet!" and he was able to understand the character better.

Actually Winter soldier and that similar storyline actually came first before they introduced the red hood. Sure the identity of Robin originated way before Bucky but the Winter soldier storyline started in 2004 While the red hood story line started in 2005. 44:30

As far as I know, Jason comes back somehow (side effect of the Motherbox, resurrecting Superman perhaps? lol), still in his coffin, digs his way out, and spends time on the streets of Gotham in some sort of catatonic state (likely brain damage related). Eventually he's found by Talia and brought home with her. She realizes he's not getting better, sticks him in the Pit and then spends a few years training him or sending him to other League members for training. At some point, she shows him stuff about Joker still being alive, Tim being his replacement, ect, and basically points Jason towards Bruce like a heat-seeking missile. Enter the Red Hood.

Before the Lazarus Pit retcon, Jason was brought back because Superboy of Earth Prime (our Earth) punched the walls of the Paradise dimension he was living in since the end of Crisis on Infinite Earths in 1986. The Lazarus Pit retcon is a good improvement.

I know you mentioned Hush several times in the closing thoughts review. I don't know if you've ever seen it, but, Batman Hush is another strong film in the DC Animated tree

God this movie is so good! To answer your question, Ra's al ghul means head of the demon in Arabic, the apostrophe represents an Arabic letter that doesn't exist in English (Hamza). The 'gh' also represents another Arabic letter that has a more guttural pronunciation. This is how it would be spelled in Arabic 'رأس الغول'

Loved this video. You should definitely check out the other animated movies. My personal favorite is probably Justice League Dark: Apokolips War. Which is actually the end of the DC Animated New 52 Arc. Well most of it is inspired by New 52 stuff but I think as the movies progressed they did more of their own thing with the movies instead of an exact copy panel for panel. I liked that one in particular because I loved seeing all the callbacks to the movies before and seeing how every was connected and how the characters progressed. Just a very satisfying ending to a series. No shame to Endgame but I personally enjoyed Apokolips War way more. A lot of the DC animated movies you can watch individually. But theres a huge chunk of them thats kinda like a continuing story. Well mostly still can be watched individually but they will reference stuff here and there from pervious movies and used the same actors and stuff. Almost like DCs own animated MCU. Starts with the Flashpoint Paradox which might not make sense to for to watch first but it does come back later on. And the series ends with Apokolips War. Heres the viewing order if you decide you wanna get into it. Ben Affleck's Batman was grieving Jason. It was the mid-point between Jason dying and Tim Drake making himself the new Robin. There's evidence of this in B vs S. Jason's burnt suit with graffiti saying Ha! Ha! Ha! or something.

Kind of. Zach Snyder himself corrected the fans by saying that was Dick Grayson's costume, not Jason Todd's. So Affleck's Batman didn't get to the point where he would adopt Grayson and soften as a character. Explains a lot about how broken he is, honestly.
