I understand everyone loves Theoden but yall need to RELAX. His arc doesn’t even come full circle until the 3rd movie. These guys are completely new to this world and these films. I’ve been enjoying these reactions so much it just sucks to see so many people getting upset over little things like them not instantly understanding a character right away.

LOTR is certainly a more male-centric story but, to be fair, you write what you know. Tolkien was a solider (officer) in WWI and he fought in the Battle of the Somme (one of the most hellish battles imaginable). So much of what he draws from comes from his time in war. Women, especially at that time, simply aren’t involved in war in the same way men are. So the adventure, camaraderie, combat, etc. he knew only involved men. There are a ton of women in his other, later, works but they don’t play as prominent of a role in LOTR or The Hobbit as they are his early works and he was still creating his “world”. He started by filling it with character based on his comrades that he fought alongside. The movie actually even makes changes that make women more prominent than they are in the book. Arwen doesn’t actually save Frodo after being stabbed, it’s Glorfindel (an incredibly powerful elf) who is eliminated from the movie entirely.

The sun Gandalf brings is actually blinding and weakens all dark creatures. This is why they usually attack at night and what not

Maiar & Valar (Maia & Vala be singular forms) are both Ainur. He essentially got the chance to experience and study other parts of himself through this.) among the other Ainur before the Years of the Lamps roughly 9,000+ years before arriving in Middle-earth; In Valinor he was known as Olórin.(Remember though he formally existed before the world existed and his form becoming Gandalf hadn’t happened yet. These lamps are what were before even the two trees. These were Giant mountains but also like light houses but housing a great power but it may have also been where two special Maia lived that helped in the creation in the sun and moon after Melkor With eldrich terror Ungoliant killed the trees, so yea “Arien” is the Maia who basically exists with the sun and her brother and or lover of sorts is the one who wanders with and guides the moon. Magical rings, Gandalf (Staff elf in old norse and Rohan’s Rohirric Éotheod language.), Gandalfs outfit (Ødin), Gandalfs title 'the grey wanderer' (Ødin), Shadowfaxe (The horses of day and night Rhimfaxe and Skinfaxe), Trolls, elves, dwarves etc. * Ødin had a legendary horse, Sleipnir, who had eight legs and was said to be one of the greatest horses known to the gods. Gandalf had Shadowfax, who had no equal among horses in Middle-earth and could understand the speech of men. * Ødin’s legendary gear-the spear Gungnir and the ring Draupnir-could have influenced Gandalf’s legendary sword Glamdring or, more likely, the magic staff he carries, while the ring possibly influenced Gandalf’s possession of the ring Narya (Sturlson 145). * Gandalf & Ødin both receive new wisdom as a result of sacrifice, as Gandalf is reincarnated after his fight with the Balrog, and Ødin gains power and wisdom after hanging himself on the tree Yggdrasil for nine days (Sigfusson 80-85). * One of the most apparent ways in which Gandalf and Odin are alike is that they both take the shape of an old, grey beggar with a wide-brimmed hat and grey cloak when they wander the mortal world and deal with the inhabitants (Pitts 7). * Gandalf and Ødin are virtually reflections of each other, as can be observed through examining their gear and animal companions, the way they sacrificed themselves and were rewarded with wisdom, and the fact that they walk the earth as old men in tattered clothing. This spear could be a parallel to Glamdring, the sword that was forged for the Goblin wars but is most likely influential to the staff Gandalf carries on his journeys. It too belong to high elven king Turgon of the great hidden realm of Gondolin, surrounded by tallest mountains. Named Glamdring; meaning “Foe Hammer”. Gandalf broke the balrog’s unholy weapon. Epic right? His original staff broke when he let some of his true powers show to grant a miracle from his own life force. This is the same thing for how the elves do “magic” Galadriel herself tells Frodo and Sam that things elves do may seem like magic but they don’t really use such a word since they are one with the world, symbiotic with it if the world perished so would they. Just so you know; the balrog and Gandalf fought for 10 days straight. Then eldrich terrors(nameless things) assailed them both and they begrudgingly fought them off together and Gandalf resumed his chase of the balrog up the endless stairs of Dúrin’s Tower where they fought up at the top of ZirakZigil Gandalf was given the ring of fire (Narya) by one of the oldest remaining elves from the first clans to wake beneath the stars before the sun and moon ever existed; at the Cuiviènen river named Círdan. Its best attribute was it raises the spirits of those who wear it. Bolstering internal strength and so forth. He knew it would aid Gandalf in his quest from the Valar and Eru Îlluvatar (the one AllFather) themselves to bolster the spirits of the free peoples of middle earth and to sow seeds of hope within the hearts of Men, Elves and Dwarves alike.

This is going to be on par with Rocky Horror Picture Show as far as the dressing up and sing-a-long showings.

Two Towers is my favorite of the 3 LoTR films. I watch them every December because my mom and I went to the see each one for our birthdays, which the films dropped the day before, the day of, and the day after my birthday. I had a great run of birthday movies those three years.

Arwen, Elrond, Elros (elrond's twin brother), Earendil and Elwing (elrond and elros' parents) got to choose to be mortal or not. I dont know if Elladan and Elrohir (Arwen's brothers) got to choose, but i would assume so as well. Elros chose mortal, and he became Elros Tar-Minyatur, the first king of Numenor, and Aragorn's distant ancestor. He lived to be 500. Numenoreans have a longer lifespan than other Men. Aragorn is 87 here and dies at age 210

That Horse is Theodred's horse Breago .Theodred is Theoden's son who died . Aragorn calms him down by speaking to him in Elvish & later freed hin because he had seen enough death . You guys should have watched the extended edition . Also what else would you have Theoden do ? Eomer & army was too far , so he took his people to Helm's Deep. Aragorn himself said they had better chance there than Ederos . And one you see who rules Gondor you'd realise why he had no hope there . So he was ready to fight no matter what it takes . Aragorn was coordinating the elf army & Theoden through his commander was coordinating the other side .

INTERESTING NOTE: Most of the riders were actually women, since women owned most of the horses in New Zealand. In the group shots of horsemen, all the women had beards and mustaches so they would look like men under the helmets.

If there's something I don't like about these movies, it's how they seem to insist (especially in the movie version) on making every man who isn't Aragorn look evil, incompetent or unreasonable. They did it with Boromir in the first movie and with both Theoden and Faramir (the latter is especially annoying for anyone who has read the books) in this one. The worst thing is that many times it is not even a question of time, since they invest more time in blurring their characters than it would have taken them to do them justice. There is also the detail that people who watch the movies always tend to assume that the position of the main characters is the most logical and obvious, without even considering the perspective of humans in this conflict. When you try to see it from the perspective of humans (not Aragorn, since he grew up with elves) it is much more difficult to judge them. But I suppose that the movies are also guilty of that, since Jackson seemed determined to make Aragorn and Gandalf look infallible (For example, in the books it was Gandalf who wanted to go to the ruins of Moria)

Chick on the left "Roxy" is oblivious. Genuinely shocking how she gets 95% of things wrong when they are sitting right in front of your face. Mixing up groups when the armor and style are 1000x different. Can't get any names right because she talks over the scenes when characters are introduced. Doesn't pay attention to 90% of the plot. Which is why she comes up with so many wrong assumptions about characters and scenes. People get Theoden wrong all the time in this movie which is fine but to fully attack a character who clearly shows a great moral high ground...makes sound decisions....fights with and for his people
