Up until the "new 52" retcon I'd been reading Batman and Hellblazer since the late 80s but I didn't read Green lantern until the guy in the shop started saying Geoff Johns was doing top tier stuff leading up to the Sinestro crops war and he wasn't wrong. But the Keanu Reeves Constantine sucked hairy arse and the GL movie was even worse. I think there was a hangover from those two and a lot of fans went to watch it predisposed to dislike it no matter what. Edit, but Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor is unredeemable.

I am marathoning the DCEU films that lead up to the Snyder Cut, in preparation for me watching that film when I get it on Blu Ray. In hindsight, I think a lot of BvS’s criticism is not so much rooted in the film itself, but rather the unfortunate circumstances surrounding the film. If you would like me to summarize some of my observations below… *1.) Somehow, Warner Bros. thought it was a good idea to take Zack Snyder’s already jam-packed film, then give theater audiences a more rushed and chopped down cut of it.* Before the Ultimate Edition was released and helped rectify this issue, the theatrical cut had notable scenes removed, which gave some much needed context. I think this made BvS more confusing to follow and botched people’s first impressions of it from the theaters. *2.) They probably should have made and released the Wonder Woman movie first, then BvS.* During my marathon, I watched Wonder Woman before Man of Steel and BvS. I think doing so helps Wonder Woman’s appearance in BvS feel so much more anticipated, satisfying, and earned. *3.) Before other films like Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Shazam, and James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad came out, fans were worried that Man of Steel and BvS would lead to the entire DCEU feeling consistently very dark, serious, and murky in its tone.* However, because the DCEU now has those other films, people can lighten up a little bit, knowing that the DCEU provides both dark brooding films and others that are simpler and more light-hearted. So there is less of a need for people to take their initial frustrations towards the broader DCEU out on BvS itself. *4.) People did not know what the intended significance Superman’s death was and how it would lead into the rest of the DCEU.* When some reviewers knew about the Death of Superman comic storyline, many expected an adaptation of it to play out like in Avengers: Endgame… *Avengers: Endgame Spoiler Begins* Iron Man gives his life to stop Thanos, after audiences followed him throughout many years and installments, and then appears destined to stay dead. *End of Endgame Spoiler* Ironically, this seems different from the actual Death of Superman storyline, where they planned to quickly bring back Superman from the very start, and his death was simply the catalyst to tell a story of how the world reacts to Superman’s temporary absence. So when people were expecting a Death of Superman adaptation to follow that Endgame formula, people were confused and wondered why such a dramatic event happens in only the DCEU’s second movie. Next, people who knew the source material understood that the comic Superman turns out to have just been in a “healing coma” and not actually dead. This led to people wondering if the DCEU Superman would also come back from apparent death, all on his own. If so, that would make the problem worse, since it would imply that Cavill’s Superman already faced one of his most powerful opponents and still could not be truly killed, making many of Superman’s possible future villains look like poultry. However, Zack Snyder’s Justice League story handled this better, by actually requiring Superman to be resurrected with the Mother Boxes, as well as establishing risks and costs to doing so (I think the Snyder Cut even shows the Mother Boxes being destroyed at the end). With the arrival of Justice League, it also became more clear that Superman’s death still has some purpose in the DCEU, in that it motivates Batman to form the Justice League and it is another step to Superman becoming the Superman we know, rather than his death being a climax to all that. *5.) It seems the Snyder Cut of Justice League proves that Zack Snyder did at least have some method to his madness, when writing BvS.* Dawn of Justice had a lot of unexpected scenes and cameos inserted throughout its narrative, which did not seem to make sense at the time. It appears viewers were worried that this would end up being like The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the Star Wars sequel trilogy, etc. where so much mystery boxes and references were being crammed into those films, before they even had a planned payoff for all of them. But now that people finally saw the Snyder Cut, more viewers got the sense that Zack Snyder at least had an overarching plan in mind, and was not just throwing random stuff at the wall to see what sticks. His vision for Justice League also had a long enough runtime, that could better provide payoff to that buildup on its own. I have yet to see the Snyder Cut and decide whether the buildup he tried to insert in BvS could have been handled better. But at least the Snyder Cut might make inclusion of scenes like the “Knight-mare” sequence more understandable. The confusion people had towards those bits probably also botched their first impression of BvS.

Your White Knight We can assume that Batman threw away his moral code after the death of Jason Todd the second Robin; who he treated not a partner but as his son. We all know how much family means to him. Most of us can agree Jesse Eisenberg as Luthor wasn't the best pick. Martha scene was misunderstood. It was just a coincidence that they had the same name. "Martha" was his father's last word and that triggered him. It also the moment of realization that Superman is also "human" that has a family. Doomsday was on his primary stage we can see that grows more bone spikes every time he gets hit with enough force that would "kill" him and make him ressurect stronger with more spikes. They couldve handled some of these with better writing. But it wasn't terrible as people make it out to be. It was a decent movie with flaws. The hate bandwagon is what gave it a bad reputation.

I watched this movie for the first time the other day, before I’ve only watched Zack Snyder’s Justice League in its initial release and recently I’ve watched man of steel. Henry Cavil’s dedication to the role of Superman is something I don’t see a lot with all these movies. I’ve never been so invested in a very popular character known worldwide while I know so little about him. I’m disappointed about the recent news regarding Henry’s future in the role of Superman but I’m very happy he got his time in the spotlight as THE symbol of hope. Thank you Henry!

Here’s what should happen after the Snyder Cut releases: Split the DCEU into two different timelines. One with the lighter fare films with movies like Shazam and Birds of Prey, and another with the darker themes where Snyder can have absolute creative freedom.
