Theres so many details that went over the audiences head. Detail 1 - if you pause during batman's training montage when hes making the smoke grenades they have the periodic symbol for lead on them. Superman cannot see though lead and cannot see though the smokescreen Detail 2 - batman had the gun setup and the sound machine to lower superman's guard for the kryptonite grenade. He wanted superman to feel invincible so he would underestimate that weapon as well. Detail 3 - the entire fight was planned by batman to end in the alley with the spear, superman played EXACTLY into batmans hands. This highlights that unlike superman batman is a combat expert and a master strategist which really comes into play once their strength is equal. When superman is brought down to batman's level of strength in a fistfight he gets absolutely annihilated. Detail 4 - Batman didnt stop just because the mothers share the same name , he stopped because superman revealed he had a mother - just like batman did and superman pleaded for her life ,NOT HIS OWN, showing his selflessness, that at the very core of his soul hes a good person. Also superman muttering martha like batman's father as he bled out made batman realize in that moment HE WAS JOE CHILL (the murderer of the waynes)

I dont know if many people actually realize that Batman didnt kill Superman just because their moms share the same name. It snaps Batman out of his kill rage yes but it also shows Batman that even if he killed Superman, he still wanted Batman to find his mother. The whole movie is about Batman not trusting Superman cause he's an alien. When he hears that Superman has a mother that he wants to save it shows that Superman may be and alien but he has a human mother that he wants to save. He stops cause that part humanizes Clark in a way Batman didnt know.

The fact that Batman didn't understand that he could have been a blood smear on the wall in the first 2 seconds of this fight shows how little he understood who and what Superman is. Another new take on Batman showing his journey from a broken man post death of Robin, to rebirth of what he once fought for with Superman's sacrifice... It does... for the IMAX scenes.... it's switching between the scenes shot in 65mm 15-perf (IMAX) and the scenes shot on standard 35mm. The black bars on the side are for the full IMAX 1.43:1 frame.... and the black bars top and bottom are for the 35mm 2.40:1 scenes.
