Batman VS Spider-Man's Villains

What would ACTUALLY happen if we were to take Batman, The Dark Knight, and pit him against the rouges belonging to Spider-Man? Could he exploit the elemental weaknesses of Sandman or Electro, outsmart Doc Ock, wrangle in the Lizard, defeat Green Goblin or survive Venom and Carnage? In this video I break down the feats, lore, and scaling of the main comic book Batman and analyze Spider-Man's adversaries one by one to provide the definitive answer.

Batman is a superhero in American comic books published by DC Comics. The character was created by artist Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger, and debuted in the 27th issue of the comic book Detective Comics on March 30, 1939. In the DC Universe continuity, Batman is the alias of Bruce Wayne, a wealthy American playboy, philanthropist, and industrialist who resides in Gotham City. Some other street heroes fight Vulture and shocker and STRUGGLE. You have to keep in mind one of Spidey's villains is the Rhino who managed to daze the Silver Surfer and box with The Hulk multiple times (to the point of being in more Hulk comics than Spider-Man comics until the 2000s)

Doc Ock has HARD outsmarted both Tony and Spider-Man in Superior Spider-Man's lead-up as well as perfectly understanding how to pretend to be Peter throughout that whole series. We've also seen Symbiotes almost completely ignore their weaknesses or just power through them MULTIPLE times. And if we're going to talk about outlier feats let's look at the ones he used for Batman. He used Livewire feats that have only happened once. He used the hotly contended JLA vs Avengers which many power scalers ignore because a good chunk of the outcomes just don't make sense, he used gadgets Batman has only used once and were never seen again, and then using feats from a non-canon movie.

If Bats can avoid being tagged by Grundy, Spidey will dance circles around him. All of that, and Spidey is a brillant biochemist, so figuring out something that will weaken/stop Grundy is doable. People forget Peter has beaten a lot of his rogues by exploiting his scientific genius as much as his actual super-powers. Deathstroke - Evil Captain America with a Wolverine-style healing factor (but no adamantium). Barring massive PIS, Spidey folds Cap and Wolverine like laundry (at the same time even), so Slade isn't a big deal. Slade needs massively one-sided prep to beat Spidey (like most of Spidey's foes who are skilled/super-powered mercenaries/assassins). Killer Croc - A weaker, slower, less versatile, and way, WAY less intelligent version of the Lizard. Some versions of the Lizard retain Dr. Conner's scientific genius and have telepathic control over reptiles, including anyone he turns into a lizard monster with the same formula that made him. Even if we used Croc's strongest version (from the Arkham games, where he not only has regen, but a weak, Doomsday-style adaptability power), it would take years of Peter kicking his ass before he adapted enough to be an actual threat.

Its kinda missleading to show panels from years ago as examples for the characters weaknesses. This isnt a problem for most of them but the symbiotes or venom and carnage atleast arent as succeptible to fire or sound as they used to be. I believe even eddies son who at the time had a venom symbiote had to walk through fire to save his dad and was fine although that might have been a different symbiote and im just missremembering.

I mean... yes, Batman could beat them a thousand times over like that, but this misses the point of the fun in imagining the scenario of swapped villains. I know powerscaling cares little about narrative, but even then, for it to be fun and not just listing a bunch of god feats and gadgets you have to imagine the villains have... a chance? In a story where this actually happened, and the writters wanted to, you know, actually create drama and tension or an arc like every story does, Batman would have to hit a lowpoint sometime in the story before winning at the end. Yes, he wins in the end, but how would these villains do to win before that? It's like, yes, the Avengers win in Endgame and bring everyone back, but before that Thanos completely stomps them bc he's supposed to... be a threat? I think this discussion would be better served to bring up ways in which the villains could actually win before Batman goes home and brings his Insta-Winnator-3000 god gadget suit combo to roll them.

Bruce could take most of Spidey's rogues in the same way Peter did when he first met them. Encounter, fight, lose, retreat, re-evaluate and prep. Spidey's villains are often sorted into two categories. Idiots/average goons with powers and geniuses or incredibly skilled without powers. Doc Ock, Vulture, Tinkerer, Mysterio (a special effects genius) are geniuses without powers whereas Chameleon and Kraven are incredibly skilled. These are often the villains that Peter can quite easily overpower but are smart enough where it's rarely ever that easy so Peter's intelligence compliments his powers. If Bruce can fight Man-Bat, he can fight Vulture. If he can fight Scarecrow, he can fight Mysterio and Chameleon (I know, fear is different to illusion but it's close enough that I'm confident Bruce would win), if he can fight Deathstroke or KGBeast, he can fight Kraven. And Doc Ock is kinda like Mr Freeze. Both geniuses that also have an edge in equipment, the arms/the freeze gun. Scorpion, Sandman, Rhino, Electro, Hydroman, Venom, Carnage etc are often depicted as morons with incredible power. Peter rarely fights them head on and again, elects to outsmart them to win the day. That's why Batman could win against Spidey's rogues. Because they're designed to go up against someone that isn't as powerful as them, has to outsmart them often. By that same token, Peter could clear Bruce's rogues. I genuinely don't understand trying to put one over the other, Bruce and Peter's rogues compliment each other quite well. They're honestly so similar you can find an analogue or just straight one to one with most of them. Peter and Bruce have the best rogues in comics (along with Flash), because they're the best heroes in comics and it's always interesting to see how they'll fare against new villains. When they teamed up against Kingpin and Ra's Al Ghul, both Bruce and Peter complimented each other and ended up saving the world along with Bruce developing a cure for Kingpin's wife, Vanessa. When they teamed up against Carnage and the Joker, Bruce held his own against a psychopathic symbiote while Joker kept trying to talk Spidey into killing him. After slapping him around and telling him he's one of the worst human beings he's ever met, Peter refused to kill him because he's better than that and slapped him unconscious instead. Batman and Spider-Man together? They'd fucking demolish the Gotham and New York crime underworld in one fucking night.

Great video. I see people say Batman would lose to Spider-Man’s villains and I’ve always disagreed with that, so I’m glad you proved why it wouldn’t be too difficult for him while also providing actual sources. Batman without preptime and his resources would be more like Daredevil, Captain America or Moon knight in terms of power comparison, which gives him good odds against most of Spidey's roster unless they are going with all they got. But without his resources or preptime I can see the upper levels of Spiderman villains giving him a fight for his life (he can certainly stand up against Green Goblin and Doc Ock, but depending on their tactics at the moment or their own preptime against him, I can see Batman losing. At the end of the day depending on his resources available at the moment, his surroundings and his opponents own battle IQ is what will decide the victory.) But I hate Batman just winning any fight because of prep time so I prefer it when he doesn't have time to prepare for a fight, because it makes it more interesting

@@LordVPurps The problem with Batman's rogues is that Batman was originally just a street-level hero. That was when he acquired most of his iconic rogues, and most of his best classic stories were the street-level stories (he has great stories with supernatural/cosmic stuff, but most of his famous stories are street-level stuff). But Batman is, far and away, DC's most popular hero (ironically, because being street-level made him more relatable than the other big names), so they pretty much had to put him in the Justice League. The Justice League who typically deal with threats that are decidely well above street-level. So Batman had to get buffed… and buffed some more… and they continued to buff him until he became more of an edgier, grittier Iron Man/Tony Stark than anything resembling his original noir roots. And then people asked the same, inevitable question you did, "Why are his usual rogues any kind of issue when he throws down with the likes of Darkseid?" So his rogues had to get buffed to justify it. Except you can only buff his rogues so much before all of Batman's stories stop being about street-level crime. The truth is, there is absolutely no reason the entire Bat-Family shouldn't be kitted out with Batman Beyond-style power armor (but better because the tech in DC is better than in the DCAU) that allows all of them to trivialize 99% of the Gotham rogues. The writers just won't do that, because they want to still be able to do street-level stories while allowing Batman to clown on the Justice League. Spider-Man has the same problem. Writers want him to remain the same as when his popularity was at it's height (a joking, down-on-his-luck street-level hero), when Spidey should treat most of his rogues as a joke by now.

Well, now we need to address the obvious question. Would Spider-Man perform as well against Batman's rogues as everyone says he would? That being said... you do focus on the low tier showings of these characters a bit too much, I think. Like that time Venom survived a sonic explosion that shattered glass across several city blocks, Sandman being considered an equal partner to The Thing, Rhino doing decently against the Hulk, and numerous Spidey villains being able to break out of Peter's webs, which can hold Hulk and Iron Man on the right occasions. That's the thing with Marvel vs DC. The showings are just inconsistent enough to argue a curbstomp in most every fight. The less said about the times Superman has been hurt by regular nukes or Thor has been knocked out by handguns, the better.

Pretty interesting subject to analyze. Batman's countermeasures should allow him to adapt effectively against most Spider Man villains. Overtime. I wonder how well the relative DC and Mavrel universes would do in a gauntlet without intervention of cosmic multiversal warping transcendent dimensional beings would do against characters like Mori Jin from the God of Highschool or Adam from Record of Ragnarok. Mori Jin is a ever growing powerhouse whose power growth by the end becomes astronomically insane you would need a average universal potency tier fighter just to keep up and even then he will likely surpass your tier in no time. Even in the beginning he was very powerful which was escalating over a few arcs. And Adam's Eyes of the Lord is a copying power that allows him to close the distance of very wide power gaps and keep up relatively in a fight even in the realm of inaccessible combat speeds and perception speeds.

I haven't watched that video until after posting my own. His evidence is very vague, just hand waving away Venom and Carnage weakness without any real proof or citations. My evidence for Carnage's weakness for example are from as recently as 2019, he also failed to quantify the equipment Batman possess compared to that which Carnage and Venom have resisted, just because they have a better tolerance compared to the 80s or even the movies and games doesn't mean Batman lacks the tools necessary to capitalize on them; which I show and cite.

Finally some one actually talks about batman tech. Since I was a child in the 80s and 90s batman to me had gadgets to aid him while ironman had suits. Batman tech is amazing so when when people do vs with batman its always prep prep then just talk about batman suits. So thank you for talking a bit about his tech. They need to go back to gadgets batman. Love those gloves.

Honestly, this type of Mary scaling Venom-Taskmaster-Batman isn’t going to work here. Venom and Carnage Are as fast if not arguably faster than Spider-Man. Between dodging Lightning, Lasers, reacting to MFTL brings like Thor, Silver surfer, thanos, on the regular. Batman ain’t doing garbage. Batman is stated over and over and over again to be simply peak human. Even if we assume his knowledge of magic and Tech boost his stats by thousands of times he would simply get speed blitzed. This is backed up by his statement that if Superman ever actually wanted to kill Bruce no amount of tech is saving him. All of Bruce’s high level feats almost always come down to the hero or villain not wanting to just destroy him. It’s fairly cut and dry. You have a normal human who Logically shouldn’t be able to react to speeds above Mach 3 (don’t tell me we can’t apply logic to comic book hero’s) or a super human like Peter who has consistently dodged actual lightning and lasers. (Not just ridiculous feats but paper statements backing it up). Batman and DC in general is a garbage house when it comes to scaling. You’ve got flash running MFTL and then my guy suddenly can’t dodge a bullet 😭😭 characters like bruce and night wing being peak humans and then they pull some garbage like “tagging Reverse flash”. All we really need is to look at it cut and dry. No random comic upscale feats like “cyborg gets his power from the multiverse”. Batman is peak human with tech that allows him to reach low end superhuman. Peter is a mid range Superman with confirmed Lighting-Light speeds. And his villains reflect that. That’s all we need.

Superman is far faster than the Marvel characters you listed, and Batman has performed all of the same feats you mentioned. Substantiate the claim that all of Batman’s best feats are against enemies that don’t want to destroy him, feel free to prove that. You do realize DC top tiers are MFTL+ casually right? When has Flash been tagged by a bullet? Feats are feats, calling them “garbage” doesn’t mean they didn’t happen. Your headcanon version of Batman is debunked by the feats I’ve presented and many more. Batman’s developed tech and counters to the JL and their Superman level rouges. That’s all I need.

So instead they take a character consistently confirmed to only be “peak human” and inflate him to quench the insatiable thirst for Batman to “solo with prep”. It’s not my own perception, I’m not asking him to be limited by some subjective rule I’ve made up. Peak human has a definition: “the highest level a real life human could achieve”. Just because you’re writing a comic doesn’t mean the definition of “peak human” changes. Other wise it has no objective definition. You could just say, “well it’s a comic world, so peak human means peak comic human, and that’s whatever I want”. You can’t use an objective term and then turn around and make it subjective. If Batman is “peak human” (he’s been stated to be numerous times) then that means Peak human. How many times has Batman been caught by bullets? He’s been shot in the comics multiple times. And not even by high tech alien guns. And this would be consistent with his statements of “peak human”. It would be illogical to inflate it. Feats like Batman tagging RF can happen for a story, and we can still reason that Batman is only peak human. Otherwise, just call him superhuman. It’s honestly just dishonest from the writer. Every peak human in DC has showings against beings with super powers, so its definition would reflect what it’s been consistently shown to do. I do not care about the definition of peak human. I agree with everything, batman has amassed a huge and varied arsenal against everyone, and the detective mind is also hilarious for those qualities. But spider-man will be quite difficult against batman villains, at least because most of them do not have special brakes, the same Joker is not a green goblin that wants more and power and such, he is a beaten maniac who is able to destroy the whole city, for the sake of a joke. If he doesn't like Spider-Man, he may not hold back against him and fly an airplane over the square to spray gas on it, at the same time he's going to immobilize a few houses and stage a diversionary terrorist attack in a third location.

Batman Low balled, Spidey villains high balled: Batman is a Vulture victim Batman & Spidey Villains as they’re MOST CONSISTENTLY written (source: I’ve read at least 1800 combined issues of comics that feature Bruce Wayne as Batman, and at least 2200 combined issues that feature Spider-Man): Could beat any single Spidey villain on any given night, especially if he has a Batfamily member helping. Loses to any variation of the Sinister 6 without prep. Gets no diffed by Morlun. Batman High Balled, Spidey Rogues Low Balled: Batman’s suit is likely able to protect him against damn near anything Spidey’s Rogues could throw at him. He’d also have a handy gadget in his belt to counter pretty much every Spidey villain to varying degrees. Could deduce any mental/physical weaknesses within seconds. Low diffs if solo, negative diffs if a Batfamily member is with him. BAT-WANK: Batman prepped for the exact moment the villains attacked him, and he and the batfamily all of have mech suits that perfectly counter every villain’s bag. In conclusion, Batman would more than likely be fine, taking into account his intelligence and the batfamily.
