Oh I cannot believe Episcopal High is under water as well - how awful for my friends back in Baton Rouge

Will the government(s) help these people raise their homes? 1) The threat of this kind of flooding will come again and it will NOT take 500 to 1000 years. 2) Elevating the homes one foot above the high water marks (from this current Aug 2016 flooding) in the various neighborhoods (subdivisions) may well give these people 50 years or so of stress free living. (Two feet even better). 3) All new homes and businesses should be required to be one foot above the high water mark by amendments to the local building codes. 4) A long stretch of I-12 needs to be elevated East of Baton Rouge. We are living in a new weather / climate regime that is NOT going to magically vanish for 500 years.

I'm sorry if this is insensitive, but at what point should NOLA be abandoned? We'll eventually be forced to.

This is Baton Rouge which is 70 miles from NOLA. So yes - insensitive and uninformed

I don't find it insensitive at all. Yes, if the climate scientists are even near correct New Orleans metro has a time stamp on it. Strangely though, it may outlast many areas outside of Levee / Pump protection. As you can see many of the slab on grade homes West of New Orleans and East Bank Jefferson Parish situated on the Lake Mauripas basin area rely on gravity drainage ...Interstate Hwy I - 12 acts as a barrier (Levee) and, in this case, the water from the deluge could not flow out to the basin fast enough to prevent inundation. They are going to need a team of hydrologists to study this issue.
