I went to Baton Rouge City Hall to try to find a plat map. I got mixed results.
0) At my house I looked at the tax assessor's internet site first. I did not find a plat map for the America Street area downtown.
Calling City Hall was a mixed picture (phone call was slightly rushed). They did tell me that I needed to come in person. Still a bit confused on some of the phone numbers.
1) At City Hall I was directed to the Clerk of Court first. Maybe this was the map area, but I'm not sure. Anyways, someone looked for 30 minutes and did not find the map. (I appreciate the effort.)
2) I was directed to the Tax Assessor's office next. That person actually did find an out of date map. I took a picture (wasn't really rushed but I had to take some initiative).
*) Note that oral directions were mostly given at City Hall. That's why I'm making this video as a somewhat more repeatable document.
9) If I wanted to look into property boundaries more:
a) I'd try looking at Sanborn Maps at the library.

b) try to look at building permits.
c) maybe try a metal detector around the corners of the property. (pipe or rebar?)
d) maybe hire a professional surveyor.
e) maybe something else.
z) power poles sometimes are useful, but didn't seem relevant in my case.
