Jim and Meat Loaf saved my life in '77. Had gone back into the Corps after Vietnam and was getting a divorce and I heard BOH on the radio. Then heard Paradise.....thought these songs are pretty good, different from anything else you hear on the radio. Then I heard 2 outta 3 and actually hollered out loud, "This SOB knows me"! Been hooked ever since.......

I had an 80's childhood and was raised on this album along with my sister. It played in the car practically everywhere we went. I remember back even in the early 90's wondering why an album that was literally a musical story plot in its own right had never been made into a musical. So glad it has finally happened and others have said glad Jim got to see it happen.

Nearly every Jim Steinman song, including this one, makes me feel, instantly, like I'm 16 again in the middle of that "first love, high school summertime breakup, will she come back, I'll never sleep again, why did she leave, oh God why, I need her to breath, please just call, just call, please ... my phone is ringing ... my heart is pounding ... she's at my door ..." every time, without fail.

@noB3134 жыл бұрын
@@KenMikaze It wasn't changed to make it 'radio friendly". Meatloaf changed it because he wanted to.Try doing your research before correcting people. Perhaps look at the wiki page for the song itself which says the song opens with a guitar played to sound like a revving motorcycle. Roy Bittan's piano begins to play along with the guitars and drums. The vocals begin at the 1:50 point. The opening vocals are accompanied by piano and backing vocals. The song then becomes much louder as the band, predominantly piano, plays the main melody for twenty seconds. An instrumental section follows the first verse and chorus, lasting over 45 seconds, with piano playing the title melody, accompanied by guitar and wordless background vocals by Todd Rundgren, Rory Dodd and Kasim Sulton. The lead vocals recommence with another verse. The phrase "sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll" was changed to "Some days I just pray to the god of sex and drums and rock and roll" on the recording, although Meat Loaf occasionally sings the original phrase in concert. Or looking up the actual lyrics. Which I could also post here for you if you want. You don't even look old enough to have been around when the song and the video came out anyways.
@KenMikaze4 жыл бұрын
@@noB313 and you still believe in wiikepedia. Sex and drums and rock and roll... does it make sense? It doesn't because drums are already integral to rock and roll. It is too important to separate from the genre. It's like saying short cake, chocolate and chocolate cake. The analogy is the rock and roll genre in the 80's and 90's where the ultimate high is sex, drugs and rock and roll.
