As an add-on to this, it's important to remember that Trudeau actually recruited this guy and promised him that he'd eventually get the environment job which is exactly what happened. Guilbeault did not go to Trudeau looking for a way into government, Trudeau went to him with the intention of bringing him in. No mention of Guilbeault's press conference yesterday on St. Valentine's Day when a reporter asked him about the impact of the tax on GHG emissions on inflation and he denied that there was any impact. His authority for this was the Governor of the Bank of Canada who he claimed had estimated the impact was close to zero, about 0.06%. He was obviously thinking of Governor Macklem's statement that if the tax were discarded it would bring down prices by 0.6%, which he himself admitted was a low-ball estimate. However, Guilbeault misreported that estimate, making it a tenth of what it actually was! He shouldn't be Environment Minister another day longer. He should do the decent thing and resign.
