My husband is retired, I work part time and we got back 170.00 ish once. I don't think we got back more than we paid especially when my car takes almost 80.00 in gas when I fill up every time. It used to be 40-50 bucks to fill up. How does 170 cover that throughout the year? Plus of course the cost of food. I only eat one meal a day. Ummm I think 8 out of 10 don't get money back

I live in rural Nova Scotia, and usually make less than 20000 per year. I have to drive about 30000 km per year because I do wood cutting work. The minuscule amount I get in a rebate for this tax definitely doesn't cover what I put in. Our goods are being disadvantaged internationally as far as I'm concerned this is as damaging as the manufacturing tax was.

A "Sin" tax can be used to reduce things like tobacco or alcohol consumption because they are VOLUNTARY consumption (some may argue that, but it is choice for the most part!). Heating your home, and driving a vehicle is not optional for many people. So no matter how good you get at reducing your Carbon Footprint, the tax continually goes up. It is a punitive tax and bad in all ways.

I quit smoking cigarettes 1.5 years ago after 44 years but I started using a vape for the nicotine. I paid my HST. A month ago they added a 16% tax on top of that on most devices. I am a carpenter in the trades, along with the 41% of men in Ontario who work in trades, plus ladies in the trades, I easily drive more than 100,000km per year. I am located in Muskoka, how many trades workers are in Muskoka? We all do the same drive every day. Some of my co workers drive over 200km per day to work in Muskoka with me. 15,000km is a joke. Maybe grandma drives that little. But the majority of Canadians drive way more than that. I think my car sales person told me the average yearly drive is like 40k km

Our family lives out in the country, we drive about half an hour to get to town. We have 4 vehicles soon to be 5 as my kids are in post secondary and my wife went back to school also. I run a construction company. I drive 50,000 kms a year every year, my wide is over 30,000 kms and my kids are usually 20-25,000 kms a year. Our combined fuel costs last year was over $23,000, just for vehicle fuel. There is no way we are getting our money back from the carbon tax rebate.

As a minimum wage hairstylist, back in the 80's, with only making 7$/hr, I was able to pay rent and survive with tips, and cover expenses. Now minimum wage is nearly 18$/hr. I can only hope to live in a tent. Something is really wrong at this current time. Something has to change, we are literally taxed to death 😢 I'm very blessed and grateful my husband has a good paying job to cover these horrific expenses.
