They kept the kids in the batter's box instead of letting them take their regular 15' foot stroll where they would stop and show the camera their slow motion major league swings. Typical pitch delivery between 8 and 10 seconds. If the majors did this, I might still be a fan.

Thanks for doing the LLWS workup! I watched this game and being a Little League Umpire we do get a little leeway with balls & strikes. However, some of the calls were a little too liberal. You want to be fair and call them on both sides as it helps the game progress at a better rate. All in all, it was a great game! Thanks again for the breakdown of LLWS!
@garygeorge96482 жыл бұрын
Calling a pitch a strike that no one on either team could reach is wrong! That was not a little leeway. If it is off the plate and the kid can't reach it, it is a ball. Quit making kids pick up bad habits by making them swing at bad pitches.

As a professional umpire myself for many years, how did they let that guy umpire that game?? His plate mechanics were absolutely horrible and that's the reason he never saw that outside pitch which was obviously a ball. An absolute disgrace and, dude, if you're reading this, get "re-trained"(that is of course, if you actually ever had any......). Embarrassing.
@ohger13 жыл бұрын
It's not just that ump Ross (I also umpire). Every game so far has shown the pitchers given 6" off the plate routinely. This guy went 8" on occasion but I think they're doing that otherwise the game would be all walks and strikeouts.
@prsguitars423 жыл бұрын
@@ohger1 At Little League level, you open the strike zone but the situation/level of play also has a bearing. That said, he had a horrendous strike zone considering the skill level of those Little Leaguers. Again, embrrassing.

When the umpire is set about 6' away from the corner of the plate, how the hell can his human eyes see a ball on the corner?? It's impossible. A fine graduate of the Angel Hernandez school of Umpiring. "Now, I can't call you , you have to make the first call"

@kevinj90303 жыл бұрын
When I was in little league I was slow, accurate, pitcher. I rarely threw strikes on purpose. Dad taught me if you hit the glove the ump would call it a strike. He was right more than wrong.
@soggybogwitch3 жыл бұрын
My league was the opposite man. Most of our "umps" were just players from the high school team and they just refused to expand the zone. And I wasn't a very good hitter, so I learned to just not swing at anything, because I knew I was probably gonna get walked (and I was walked a ton) but the downside is I never really learned to bat. To this day I can barely get a bat on the ball man.
@gabrielrockman3 жыл бұрын
When I played in little league, the umpires based the inside corner off where the batter was standing, but based the outside corner off home plate the way you're supposed to. So if the batter stands away from the plate, they give the pitcher a much wider strike zone. But if the batter crowds the plate, the entire inside half of the plate is still going to be called a ball and there's a very small strikezone for the pitcher to throw at.
@Richard.Dawson3 жыл бұрын
The ump could probably see the plate better if he didn't stand behind the batter!!! What the hell is he doing standing like that?
