This is a nice inexpensive down converter that can be used for a power supply or a battery charger.
Check this idea out: You can charge your project battery with this module then simply turn it around and run your project using the converter as the power supply. In this way you can set it to any voltage for the project and add the amount of current limiting you need to be safe. You probably don't need a fuse on the battery anymore.

Rechargeable lithium-ion battery
When the lithium-ion battery voltage is relatively low, if the direct use of constant voltage charging, the voltage difference due to the larger, leading the charge current is too large, resulting in damage to the battery, so when you want to start using the constant battery current charging, when the charge to a certain extent automatically switches back when the constant voltage charging.
Module above indicated IN-(input negative), IN+(positive input), OUT-(negative output), OUT+(positive output) must be connected to the right, otherwise may cause damage to the module.

There's another way and I believe a better way of setting your amperage (Current) is to use a multimeter, switch the pos over to the 10adc side and connect the wire coming out of the buck converter to the pos probe on the multimeter and connect another wire to the neg probe on the multimeter and hook it up to the positive on the device your powering and adjust the trim pot as needed. I use a lightbulb to set the current

Also if there's two lithium ion batteries in the case the max voltage will be 8.4v wired in a series, but when you put a load on it, it should be running at 7.4v so check that voltage going into the camera. Over Voltage will kill your camera prematurely.

My module gets extremely hot to the smd resistor at the lower pcb when it draws over 1,5 Amp. You all should try your modules. I believe that resistor must be replaced with a non smd resistor with higher wattage. It seems is the resistor who is used to measure the current so all amps pass through it.

It's not a "charge" indicator. The blue LED means the output is being current limited, in stead of voltage limited. There is a red LED next to the blue one to indicate the voltage is being limited, in stead of the current.
@DadHav
@DadHav 6 жыл бұрын
It's a little confusing about the LED's. You almost don't need them because you get all the information you need from looking at the display right? The blue diode turns off and on for me at about 60 Ma. In other words if I set the module to charge at 12 volts and 200 Ma. When I start the charge the voltage drops and current is 200 Ma. (Current is kept at 200Ma by dropping the voltage) As the battery starts to reach full charge the blue light goes out when the current drops to about 60 Ma. but is still charging slowly. There was no current limiting going on at this point. It was set but not being used at this stage of the charge cycle.

I have a few questions about battery charging that is puzzling me. I have an Italian expensive 12/24 volts charger. Lately, it ruined my weak battery and it went down from 11.6v to 4.5v, even though they said it was safe with automatic switch-off for battery protection. Q1 : Is this battery history? Q2 : Is it correct that the charger's output must be above the battery's volt level in order for it to be effectively charging?
@DadHav
@DadHav 5 жыл бұрын
Typically a 12v lead acid battery will be fully charged at 14.7 volts and some chargers will even go up to 15.4 even though they are referred to as 12 volt chargers. Usually even batteries in bad shape will come off the charger looking like they are fully charged but as soon as they sit a while will settle down to their resting voltage. If your battery is dropping down as low as you say there may be heavy sulfating or damage of the plates. If you are talking about NiCad or NiMh there are different things to consider. Usually the condition you describe means the batteries are permanently damaged.
@khalida.s.4649
@khalida.s.4649 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I was trying to make sure what the charger's output must be in order for it to work effectively. Do you know if a charger with 11 volts would be able to charge the battery though? The charger that apparently ruined my battery is 12v/24v with Boast switch. When I measure the output, it's 11.3 on regular and 12.1 on Boast! I think the Charger voltage MUST be higher than the battery's just a little bit in order for it to be effective. Can you confirm this assertion? or oppose it..
@DadHav
@DadHav 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, Khalid. If you are charging a lead acid battery the voltage output from your charger must be high enough to get the 12 V battery to 14.7 volts before it automatically shuts off or goes into a storage charging mode. That is of course if your charger has features like this.
@khalida.s.4649
@khalida.s.4649 5 жыл бұрын
I tested my new battery and when it's fully charged, it measured 12.7v with the car turned off. It also measured 14v when the car is running because the alternator was charging it. Not sure that a car battery can ever measure above 12.7 when it's not being charged. My main issue though is this : Can a charger be useful at all if it's charging a voltage that is less what the battery's voltage is? example: battery is measuring at 11.5v and the charger's output is measuring at 11v.
@DadHav
@DadHav 5 жыл бұрын
I would say it's normal for a car battery to measure 12.7 volts after resting. If you leave an 11v charger connected to your battery, the voltage of the battery will be 11 volts eventually and stay there.

+Steve Greenfield....I couldn't find out to much about them but I was told the three pin connector is a serial interface and the other not used on this module. On Alibaba, one of the pictures shows the connector with more pins connected to a laptop battery. I had noticed that the 3 pin connector is labeled RX and TX, and that it is wired to the hardware serial ports on a microcontrolller on the top board. You are probably correct and it is likely just a constant serial stream of data.

@DadHav

+Charles Williams Yes but you first need for an example a 24 volt transformer to run the charger module. The charge would be slow at 2 amps or less to be safe but it should work. I thought about using one set to about 13.8 volts and around 200 Ma or so for a winter battery tender.

Why a transformer
@DadHav
@DadHav 8 жыл бұрын
+Charles Williams The unit is a down converter and requires a higher DC voltage goin in than what the output voltage is set at. By transformer I really meant a DC plug in power supply. the power supply should have enough wattage to operate the module at your required charge setting. As an example I use an old laptop power supply on the input. this supply has setting for 12 to 24 volts and I use the 24 volt setting. The power supply is 3 amp but I never need that much.
