There’s a tipping point where it doesn’t make sense. A gas trimmer is $200 a battery trimmer is $200. Where it no longer makes sense is the mowers. A gas push/self propelled mower is $350 (Toro). A battery powered one is $600 and the battery alone is $250 in most cases. For me, gas mower and battery everything else.

Also ask yourself what is the life cycle of the battery before they start dropping in run time and eventually fail. Will you spend that amount of money on gas in that time frame for before you have to buy another expensive battery. I dunno I just don't see it as a good long term investment. Specially in the professional world.

I highly recommend putting speed-feed heads on electric trimmers. Also, since electric trimmers don't have the power as gas trimmers do, the quality of string is even more important so you're cutting through thick grass efficiently and not double-passing over the same areas. A twisted 0.80 is good along such as MaxPower brand or with 0.80 Oregon.

In Australia we have a brand sold by a big name hardware shop. The battery's fit everything from sprayers, to hedge trimmers, grinders, lawnmowers. The skins are normally under 100 bucks. I use the blower and Hedge trimmer and they're great. Even made a charge station on the trailer.

Good honest review. I went with the ego mower , weed Wacker, blower. I take care of 3 small lawns on my block. It does a decent job with the mower but gas is better. I LIKE the weed wacker and blower. The blower is better than my small Stihl gas blower so it depends on your previous equipment as to whether it will have more or less power. For small houses and homeowners i think battery is better. No gas, no mix gas, no pull starting, light. No gas smell , no carburetors to rebuild

What I did was, I put solar panels on the top of my trailer - I installed two golf cart batteries inside the trailer with a charge controller and an inverter. now I can charge up while I am out and about. I do DIY yard work and went all electric. Bit the bullet on an expensive Milwaukee mower after being satisfied with their weed eater, edger attachment, and dual battery leaf blower, and being fed up with my roommate’s Troy bilt mower. That Milwaukee mower is awesome. All the power without the excessive noise and exhaust fumes. I can start a side hustle with my yard equipment if I wanted to.

I only need these tools for home use and my yard isn't all that huge. Bout half a football field maybe. I switched to Ego mower, trimmer, and blower. I love them. I don't have to worry about seasonal maintenance ...... don't have to worry about getting motors running again..... or storing gas and oils ... changing fluids..... electric is WAYYY quieter... and the tools are much lighter. For the home gamer, electric is definitely a consideration. EDIT: I replied as I began this video expecting it to knock electric tools ...... but I agree with everything this guy said. Great video.

I have a local Stihl dealer and staying with them. I’ve got the BR 700 blower and 131R Kombi system with nearly all attachments. Been using this stuff almost a year and love it. Last week decided to go into lawn care next year. Really enjoy working outside and yard work. Plus with everything going on in the world. Seemed like a smarter choice. My yard consists of 3.6 acres and out of the city limits. So field grass and wooded areas are common. Western Kentucky to be exact. First year I’m definitely sticking with gas powered because I’m worried about battery life. Maybe if it goes well and get clients located in the city. I’ll look more into going electric. I love the lighter weight and quieter operation though. Just like electric mowers. Great idea but just too expensive and if you have to charge that during the day and get back to work. You can forget it. My mower is a Bobcat Pro 7000 61 inch. Thanks for the honest review. I’ve watched your videos going on a year now. Didn’t know I wasn’t subscribed. I’ll fix that now. By the way. I’m an Army veteran too from 2005-2015.

Love the info. Great video. Very helpful. Bought a Toro 60volt trimmer just for my yard. Disappointed in the line advance. The line will not advance with a simple bump, have to pound it hard. Have taken it apart every thing is clean line is not tangled but the bump nob is very stiff even tried a little lubricant. So this video was very helpful on helping me decide next step which will most likely be a gas powered trimmer. Thank you.

Well John, there go the Husqvarna freebies. You just have to have integrity. And that’s why I respect you and subscribe, even though I’m not connected with the lawn care business. Your other strong point is your piercing intelligence. It enables you to cut through the baloney, which has to be of great benefit to your customers. When you hire someone, you like to know that they know every facet of their business. No worries about that with you. If I were to go into the lawn care business, I’d be taking notes.

I agree 100%. And although the financial level of my landscaping business doesn't allow me to buy and own 90% of the equipment from your trailer, I have also realized that I still need my gas Husky trimmer for more demanding jobs. Of course, gas powered mowers will remain the staple for professionals for a few more years for sure. I have managed to transfer to battery powered hedge trimmer and a hand held blower from Makita since they are priced much better than Husqvarna. But who knows what the next season brings to the table. New Honda HRX 217 is what I'm eyeing now... By the way, one question.. Where did you get all those racks and holders for various equipment? I know one can buy trimmer racks everywhere but I'm more interested in those holding your blowers and hedge trimmers securely to the wall.. Thanks...

Late last year and early this year we tried battery equipment, and during the slow season they worked ok for the most part. But when the busy season started they weren't enough, and went back to the gas equipment. Also the battery edger worked fine in few spots, but in most places it didn't have enough torque and wasn't working. But the gas edger worked like it was nothing. Most of the grass at the college is St. Augustine and Bermuda, and some other kinds mixed here and there. The battery equipment are Makita, in case your wondering, the gas equipment are Stihl. To me battery equipment still has a long way to go to catch up to gas equipment.

Great video, little story i first started 6 years ago trying to do a fully battery operated company back then there was sealed lead acid batteries and ego had just come out we we used neuton mowers then we got a couple ego products, the equipment did the job but could not handle the abuse of commercial, so I closed down shop. After my son was born I restarted a new lawn care company use gas. Obviously night and day difference now that tech has finally caught up I started adding/ replacing a couple of my gas stuff with stihl ap line. As you said it’s not great for tasks ie blower but that being said it’s great to have lower operating costs again and less maintenance costs with battery equipment (I purchased my stihl ap equipment used) As a FYI for everyone reading this toro is releasing the 60 volt commercial HD model 22282 if you want to check it out. I can tell you it’s everything the same as the gas example the blade deck handles the only thing that looks to be different is the motor obviously. I’m glad we have companies pushing the technology needed to help off set costs (over time) for us to run our businesses. Again Awsome video just thought I share my story in advance sorry for crappy grammar spelling.

I'm on the battery tool journey. I've got an EGO strimmer. My god! It's good. I'm slowly going to be buying in to it further. A long reach hedge trimmer, pole saw and lawn edger are on my wish list. But as you say. There expensive !! So slowly does it. I have a Dewalt battery blower which is good for dry grass. I also have a stihl BR600 blower for the heavier stuff. Since purchasing my EGO strimmer I've not used my Honda 4 stroke strimmer at all. The only thing I'd say is, I don't think battery is quite there yet in terms of power and run time for a commercial mower. So I use my Weibang shaft drive petrol mower all the time for grass cutting.

I believe electric blowers, and string trimmers are exceptional. Now lawn mowers I have faced greater efficiency with gas push lawn mowers. I can’t touch on battery power riders or stand ons, but I have been researching

I run my Husqvarna hedge trimmer in the morning so that i don't bother people and then later I switch up to Stihl gas. Other than hedge trimmers, everything else is gas specifically because GAS provides more power.

How long would not having to pay for gas take to pay for it. That’s the real question. You are going to spend that money just depends on how fast. Not saying that it is financially worth it by the way. Just depends on that and if your on with it. I know another LCO that told me he basically would break even in a year and after that that is money in his pocket.

I have a Makita battery set up. I have two solar panels on my roof , a voltage regulator and an invertor. I have a dual port rapid charger with two batteries on charge at all times. I also have an extra dual port rapid charger that I sometimes charge two batteries at a customer house if I get behind. I also have a complete STIHL gas products as a backup if needed. I carry all the Stihl products for back up in a hockey equipment bag. I have two Makita lawn mowers that can carry 4 batteries in each one. I sold most of my gas products. I only am doing subdivision homes lawn care and snow removal. Life is now good and simple. Gas two stroke was always a nightmare. I use to always have at least two gas products out getting fixed.

This video I consider to be very valuable because I was seriously considering purchasing battery powered blower as well as a trimmer. I want to be environmentally friendly, and not add to the pollution so on and so on. I have noticed that some battery powered equipment tend to be a little expensive but perhaps buying them while they're on sale might help. My one question I want to ask is this....do you personally store your riding mowers with gas in them over the winter. I purchased a new Husqvarna yard tractor over the summer and I love it. I stored my Toro walk behind mower last year over the winter by putting Stable fuel stabilizer in the tank. It started early this spring with the first pull of the string and no issues at all during the summer. Can I do the same with my new Husqvarna ? I know I probably should consult the manufacturer !!!

When operating a lawn care service you can't be too quite. Especially if your properties are clustered together and you are doing one after the other. Or if you mow on Sundays like I do, or if you tend to mow late in the day or early in the morning. I like some of the conveniences of battery powered equipment, but the main focus for me is the noise level. Right now, all of my equipment is battery powered except for my mower (21" push mower). I am going to get a battery powered mower soon. For me, it is all about keeping the noise down as much as possible. If you plan things properly, you won't run out of battery. I charge up my extra batteries with the customer's outside outlets while I am mowing. And I plan to setup a charging system in my vehicle that will charge up my batteries while I drive or even if I'm parked. I imagine the quality and price of battery equipment has improved a little since this video was made.
