Hi this is Brad with Copper Creek Cuts, a lawn care company in Northeast Florida

Hello Brad! I started my journey into battery powered OPE, with a commercial Milwaukee M18 Fuel 24" hedge trimmer, which works really well, I really quite like it, runs on the 9AH battery, a bit heavy, but gets the job done. A couple months ago, I purchased a commercial Makita 40V straight shaft direct drive string trimmer, which runs on their 4AH batteries, its a really nice machine, got lots of power being a battery unit, and gets the job done, while being far lighter then my gas units!

Have you considered a solar panel to recoup some power for your power station I think one would fit on top of the cage on your trailer . there are some available now that put out a significant amount of energy

Hey Brad! I'm in the profession working for a large lawncare/detail/landscaping company, we have 9 lawncare vans, 3 detail trucks, and 2 landscape trucks that go out every day. Each lawncare van does 30+ yards every day mon-fri and we tried the commercial battery equipment on one of our vans for a few weeks and it did not work out at all. The batteries just don't last long enough and the infrastructure required to charge enough batteries to make it last all day just didn't work out for us and we have since switched back to echo 3020T trimmers, 2620 edgers and the 770T blowers. Thanks for the awesome videos man!

I did a test of the backpack blower at the end of last year before I moved. It worked fine if I did ten zero lot line subdivision homes, however, it didn't last long enough to blow off one of the smaller condominiums that I maintained. The trimmer worked well for what I needed at all locations. I didn't have to use it for any overgrown grass or any large areas
@CopperCreekCuts Жыл бұрын
I don't know what all was involved in the condo you took care of, but I know one of the HOA's I had had a mile stretch of road with two curbs and a sidewalk I had to blow off. It was maybe 15/20 minutes of full throttle blowing while I rode my stander. I would be nervous to try it with battery, but that would be a good experiment!
@Hillsidelanscapemanagement Жыл бұрын
@@CopperCreekCuts that would be close to the condo association I was referring to. It took about half an hour to blow off the place, mostly at 3/4 to full throttle. Two long stretches of blowing off along roadways, plus the parking lot, driveways, patios, etc... With a few spare batteries and a power bank, similar to the set up you have, it could have worked out for a full days with of work but it would have sucked swapping out batteries numerous times. I'm in discussions with another company to try out their new commercial line. They're sending me a camera and some software to mount on the mowers later this summer to collect data. I'll share that in detail when I'm allowed

Good information, and for me, great timing. I'm needing to replace some older equipment and just for convenience, I'd rather go electric. I'm not running a commercial operation so my needs are much less than yours, but this was still useful and informative. Thanks, Brad! Cheers from Texas.

Hi Brad, hope your doing well. Interested video, as you maybe aware I'm 90% and love it and so do my clients from their comments, have you found your clients have notice you using battery kit and with the noise reduction, not impacting there day, especially trimming close to house. Because I tend to be at property's for several hours, I have a fast charger with me, so i recharge batteries on the go as one runs down. Toro seem to be putting effort in to developing the tools. 🙂👍

Sucks the charger wont handle charging all of them at 100% output power. Its cool technology to play around with, and for the avg home owner. But I think its more trouble for you as a professional who doesn't have time to be playing around with battery's.

So is it worth having a battery power over gas power equipment?

My 40v Ryobi trimmer will do 1200 feet of really strong trimming on a 4ah battery and only use about 60 percent. I can’t even imagine what 60v on a 10ah battery would be like. 🤯

I am 76 years old and have a bad back , is a stand on or sit down zero turn easier on your back?
@CopperCreekCuts Жыл бұрын
Stand on seems to be better on the back but worse on the knees. Ferris and Wright have some really nice suspension and seats, but don't have lots of cheaper residential options for zero turns.
@muffinhater69 Жыл бұрын
IMO, backpack battery operated blowers are not a good idea for commercial use just yet. I used a Kobalt 40v for 5-6 lawns a day and it would be dead by the 3rd or 4th yard. Those drain it so fast even though it’s brushless. I love my handheld blower by Makita. It works well for small residential properties and the battery last all day.
@simpleagain1 Жыл бұрын
Kobalt is junk from Lowe’s. Makita doesn’t play around and makes some really awesome tools
@stevedavis3370 Жыл бұрын
Jeez, seems really inefficient for everyday use.
@CopperCreekCuts Жыл бұрын
Which part is inefficient?
@stevedavis3370 Жыл бұрын
Constantly changing/rotating batteries. Having to bring the system in every night to recharge. Maybe it’s because you were doing a video to show how to charge and rotate batteries but it just seemed inefficient. Wonder how many years you can get out of one battery? Regardless, your video provided great insight on battery equipment!
@CopperCreekCuts Жыл бұрын
@@stevedavis3370 I appreciate the specifics. I never try to change someone's mind but without the info in your follow up there isn't any way to address specific concerns or have a discussion. I won't say there isn't ANY time spent swapping or charging since that is false, but do keep in mind this was my first day with the setup and as you mentioned, I was filming (which is a huge inefficiency as everything is done one handed), so what you are seeing would be the most inefficient stage of this learning process. I think I spent maybe three extra minutes loading the charger, battery bank, and all batteries into my lawn care equipment this morning? But good metric to track moving forward. You also bring up a great concern about the overall lifetime, since that is a big factor in whether it is worth it or not. I can only provide my own first hand experience which is another reason I make these videos.

@@CopperCreekCuts sounds good, again, thanks for making the video showing the process and capabilities of the battery equipment!

I use a few battery pieces. A leaf blower to blow off porch and deck, a battery pole saw I use periodically to do a small bit of pruning, and a small hedge trimmer for in-between touch ups. Both work well for the limited tasks I use them for, but for the mowing, edging, leaf clean up, tree cutting, etc... it is gas all the way. 5 mins to fill a couple containers at the store, and then pour in tank, start engine, run till empty, and repeat. Way to easy to be bothered with charging wait times and limited use cycles. I think battery power has it's place at the table, but it just doesn't fill the table for me.

I won’t hire a lawn service that uses battery equipment. Not only are you using less powerful equipment that will take longer and more money to do the same work, you are also advancing a government lie to limit energy options for the people.
