@CMDRSloma2 жыл бұрын
@@1988dgs You're right, this type of "repair" should be taught at schools. But, I will also never accept that products cannot be designed with simple battery swaps as a feature. This is possible and manufacturers must be forced to implement this. Simply dragging feet and inventing excuses for not doing it is tiring, there is no objective excuse for it.

Great step by step video - it took me between 1.5 and 2 hours, and that included modifying the battery cage to accommodate the larger battery. I also bought the battery (with tabs) from Ionic Industries, and was able to trim the tabs with a small pair of side cutters. The only issue I had was that the fine wires that are tied around the lugs on the side cage, snapped when trying to get them off, but there was still enough wire to solder them in place. I'm not very experienced at soldering and only have basic equipment, so even if you are nervous about doing this I would definitely recommend doing it, to save on having to buy a new toothbrush. A couple of tips that helped me; make sure you have some braided solder wick to make desoldering the joints a lot easier and less messy, and if you place the unit on a sheet of Blu Tack, it will keep it steady whilst doing the soldering.

If your not technically minded but good with your hands, give this ago, not only have you got the dam thing going again, this will teach you how to replace batteries in other tooth brushes that are usually easier to replace. You also will get satisfaction from repairing your items. A few things to know about soldering iron if you have one but not to clued up on it. Just be careful with the solder iron tip not to leave on to long or touch other parts, better to use higher heat with thicker end piece for less contact time, and dab a bit of fresh solder on your iron to help melt old solder, Dab the solder iron on a wet sponge or copper wire scourer to keep end clean. You can also Buy copper braid to absorb solder away from the board.if you don`t have a solder suction . Always clean the solder and board with a alcohol base to remove flux left from the solder other wise it can corrode around area, Use unleaded solder possibly silver flux solder, but be careful as some solders melt at different temps And by some flux` as not always flux solder is good enough , you may prefer liquid flux. Take photo`s at each dismantling stage as the video may not look or captured every angle you prefer when putting back together. Always be very careful on them 2 wires from the coil they break so easy,

Same here, small break in the coil wire just before the solder,
@Tim_Small2 жыл бұрын
@@AndreVanKammen One more of the same here - coil had become de-soldered at the connection labelled '+' - had to pull the wire a bit to get enough slack to solder it. I'll put a little bit of adhesive on before I reassemble it, because I suspect vibration is slowly moving the wire in the plastic routing so that it tightens on the solder joint and eventually breaks.

I have an antex 18w iron. The positive terminal is too much for it. I cant use the heat gun because its all plastic. The rubber seal at the top of the brush is perished anyway and the wire to the led has corroded away. This is all going in the bin, im going to buy a new brush, it should be easier to replace the battery and the seal should be replacable. Just as a side note, if you get your battery elsewhere it may well have next to no charge in it, so when it's all soldered in then it will only give you a red flashing light at test, it will need a decent few hours charge to work. I spent ages checking all the connections were right on the 3 brushes I did last night. Also if the white battery carrier end that is thinned to a millimeter gap is accidentally cut out you will get permanent connection from positive to the motor terminal! Ask me how I know that.... 🤦♂️

Not as easy as the video suggests to open up to remove the inside when the ring and bottom are clogged up after much use. Needed to use a sharp knife to remove the top ring and the bottom. Not necessarily the battery at fault, move the gear wheel when trying to start and see if it works. Used WD40 and light oil both ends of the motor and after a while it started every time and no disassembly required. Top ring and bottom needs persuasion to refit, they must have used a new toothbrush..
