Leave the soda alone and disconnect the terminals from the battery and get a battery post cleaner and get a much better clean to the posts and the whole terminal and it just looks better and cleaner and don't forget to replace the felt pads around the post's

Hey mate, a year later, how's your 4runner going? I have a 2001 and my milage is at 180k, but the battery keeps dying and is less the 3 years old (homedepot battery) :(

use bulb grease and you wont see that corrosion ..

Disconnect the cables and then do that because there is also corrosion on the terminal posts and on the inside of the rings of the cables. Wire brush the posts and the inside and outside of the rings.
