I think this was a very good representation of a medieval battlefield, nothing fancy, all grit, and no Aragorns slaughtering loads of men left and right. I also appreciate realization that you can just bash a solider in armor with a sword and expect him to die.
@vladimirdamned947010 жыл бұрын
Yes, but it's not a real medieval fight. Here exist some rools like unsharpened weapon, and here is no thrusts. In real medieval fight much of them will bin dead by thrusts through the chainmail, visors and between the plates. P.S. Forgive me for ny english))

What about catapults, arrows, bolts, ect. Many people where killed or did killing where they could not see who they hit. Also, how was it honorable to slash a man in the back from a horse? Most soldiers in this time period where presents with little to know equipment who didn't want to fight. Most casualties where Caused while withdrawing from battle.

to answer your first question in case you didn't ever figure it out, the Templars with the black surcoat and red cross are the "sergeants" in the order, basically they were the commoners or those who had no ties to nobility, thus the white surcoat and red cross meant that the wearer was of nobility, whether he was a lord, son of a baron, knight ect. Also certain privileges were granted to the nobles of the Order that a sergeant (black surcoat) would not have received, such as squires, horses ect
@Morslyte12 жыл бұрын
You are very right about that, but one must not forget some there represent the Knights Hospitallers, black surcoat with white cross.

man do they got any swordsmanship clubs like this in the US, Russia is, while someplace I'd love to visit, a bit out of my budget to make the trip at the moment lol, still It'd be cool to participate in large scale battles like this using blunted blades instead of wood swords and sticks, as they say no pain no gain. for the most part.

That bear is the coat of arms of Bern, Switzerland. I'm not sure if they were involved in that actual battle, but the Swiss served as mercenaries across Europe throughout the medieval age, so it's not impossible (and probably a good choice in larp if you're not sure which side you're going to be on :P).
@maaderllin12 жыл бұрын
I'd like to make a point: LARP means Live Action Role-Playing. If you recreate a historical battle, you play a role even if there's little to no "character playing" in it, you incarnate a medieval warrior in a given era. Common LARP: great variety of organisation, freedom of character and armor style from historically accurate to extreme "fantasy" style. You often play the character you want to play and interract with other until fight happens. There can be magic, creatures (part 1)
@mouthforwar1713 жыл бұрын
i like this kind of stuff..however sometimes it just seems like wild flailing of weapons...i think when a soldier really knew his life was on the line there wouldve been a lot more organization of groups of soldiers perhaps

@daaustin2 In the video it seems that you had to fall down to be considered dead. In Transylvania-Hungary-Chekoslovakian area if you get hit by a blade (regardless the type of weapon) you have to fall down - dead. But this is only in the general battles, in the tours you can't kill the oponent, obviously. But there you have other rules: you can't stabb first of all. One "touche" means one point. You have to get the first to a number of points (usually 5 or 10) or to disarm your oponent to win.

@jenniferinmontreal Yeah, e6eMo3r is right, we are doing it by ourselves, using historical records. But the weapons are not sharpened for safety and in most of the battles like this and 1x1 tournaments there is no pricking blows. There are some shops in the ineternet and in some cities too, that sell some goods and weapons. I dont know how many people were there, but the "bugurts" are usually from 10 people to 500 and even more.

In LARPing, from what I heard in the Yogpod LARP episode, when you are hit(and you don't dodge/block)you take damage. However, let's say my armor has +1 block, and my shield has +1 block if I block. A sword deals like 2 damage and I have 10 HP. If I am hit and I don't block I NEED to say 1(because damage-block, so it dealt 1 damage to me). Maybe I block, so that means 0 damage. I wonder how they count all those things, seeing how noisy and full of people it is over there.

@TheHockeyfreak1964 Those weapons have real steel blades, but of course, they're blunt. But either way, you have the medieval armour (made exactly like in the middle ages): a gambeson and a mail armour/plated armour. And over the armour the tunic. As you can see, everyone has a helmet (unfortunately not every company can afford helmets, here in Transsylvania they are quite expensive). Search for Wolin on youtube to see the greatest medieval reenactment festival! Transsylvania invicta!

Anything you want there to be. Or none of them. In that case the line between SCA and common larp becomes thinner. SCA: Societies for Creative Anachronism. It's on a more restricted level, but you can still incarnate any type of people in pre-17th century europe. Wich means a viking can meet a crusader, but there is no magic nor creature or monster. (From what I understand, any SCA member correct me if I'm wrong) (part 2)
