What. WHAT? WHAT?!? Forgive me for having never played the game but WHAT THE HELL is going on? How the heck did using all those bombs on the Plateau suddenly crank his score up to getting multiple extends? Oh god, my brain, this game looks awesome and frightening all at once, but I need an explanation because I am so not getting this game's scoring system.

It's magic. I even tried it myself during my play. Although, my plays are rather rash for I have not gotten very far. However, the aspects of the game are rather fickle. It depends on how well you play it fully. A few tips I know to keep the rank (further gameplay difficulty) is by keeping your shot speed moderate and not fast until the time is right, not hoarding the power up items too many times, including the bombs and options (but if you follow the secret ways of obtaining option forms, you can grab the option icon to have many special option forms Wide, Search, Homing, even Shadow.), not miss a medal while leveling the medal collecting to the maximum rank, even not firing too many times (save your ammunition, as they call it). I've tried to pan out the playthrough many times, although I've gotten better at many points, but I could do better in the nearest future so that I can try out the playthrough again, and heck, possibly go for the Premium Edition of the game because I love the game to the fullest extent. lol As for the scoring, almost everything in bosses, obstacles, etc. are scoreable. For the first boss, you can see that Kamui shot the wings for more scoring. Every boss and mini bosses except for certain ones (Black Heart mk1&mk2, and Glow Squid) have composite parts to trigger the 'milking', and more likely to get multiple extends. You just have to be diligent and shoot/shoot them down without having to timeout their phase. In regards to hidden medals, you can use bombs, but use them wisely! There are a multitude of many tricks in order to best the game like the professional Battle Garegga players I've seen.. although I still have much to learn in order to drag myself to the same boundary. If you're also taking on the challenge as I am, then I hope the details help, and I wish you godspeed on your attempt! ;-)

To lower the difficulty rank. If you keep surviving and shooting things down, the enemies become more aggressive. If you don't keep the rank down, the bullethell patterns become damn near impossible. Dying is the only way to lower the rank.

It's called a no miss run, but if you're going for score, then suicides have two big strategic advantages: It lets you actually have an extra life get added on if you get an extend, plus it keeps the bullet patterns (barely) manageable.

Other than that, if you want to get through the game and survive, you need to keep the rank low. Don't fire your weapon too much, don't kill too many enemies, and don't collect too many power-ups. The rank will stay low, but it will still rise a little bit. Don't go all out on powering up until Stage 6. There, devote your time to collecting as much power-ups and bombs as you can. Use bombs if necessary. In theory, you _should_ be able to complete the game without the rank growing to unmanageable levels.
