Why is the Battle Gear series so underrated? Greetings from the Philippines because I played Battle Gear 2 and 3 at the amusement arcades of the malls when I was a kid.

This is the US version of the game that's currently in MAME, without the Honda cars (Side by Side 2's US ROM was also this way, and it was MAME's parent ROM until a World English ROM was dumped). Subsequent Battle Gear games were barely officially released in American arcades because of this (the English versions of BG3 and vanilla BG4 also has warning against exporting to USA on startup; the BG3 flyer noticed the same issue again but no ROM, disc or dongle dump for the US region has surfaced). -There seems to be budget American-style cabinet of BG3 out there though, apparently for Canada?- EDIT: BG3 was actually released in 2004 by Betson in North Americas with the budget cab and limited NESYS deployment (only in NJ and California for United States, Ontario in Canada). The Betson version has Honda cars included. By Battle Gear 4 Tuned, the export ban I referred above was removed, and certain mysteriously broken dumps of BG4T available online (that also causes some vanilla BG4 stuff, such as the logo on attract mode and different "press start button" prompt, to appear) includes a disclaimer notice that the Honda cars featured in the game are Japanese models when selecting them as manufacturer of their choice. (Would probably need some region playaround on BG4T to verify the intended behavior. Additionally, BG4T NESYS service was never available in the US, but was briefly available in Canada.) As a side note, all US versions of NAOMI-era Initial D Arcade Stage trilogy includes a notice on the cabinet (but not in-game seemingly) about licensing from Honda Japan. The US version of IDAS4 (the last fully translated IDAS game) uses the same Honda credit as with R-Tuned that mentions Acura, though neither game features Acura branding.

That game was classic and it's also for my childhood when I play Battle Gear 2.

Jump to car specs: 1:53 Toyota 6:20 Nissan 10:27 Mazda 14:32 Mitsubishi 18:38 Subaru Additional changes to Mazda: - FD RX-7 logo is centered compared to Side by Side 2, considering the Efini logo got unused there. (Should be the same in both Japanese and "Overseas" English ROMs.) - No Savanna logo in FC RX-7, just like in the English version of SBS2. - Miata name now used on the NB Roadster. (Not sure if they used MX-5 in the "Overseas" English version, but for the sequel, only the Battle Gear 2V update has that - because of the European PS2 port, Tokyo Road Race, using the MX-5 name.) - The 1.6 Miata seem to be absent from the specs screen? Thought it was removed, but the car in 15:56 seems to be that given the lack of aero parts. (EDIT: Both my and a Japanese arcade-goer's video confirmed it was also the case in the Japanese ROM.)
