Such a beautiful version of a beautiful song. One does not have to be Mormon (I’m Catholic) to appreciate great singing)!! When I was a Senior in High School (Class of ‘72), we sang this is in our chorus’s Spring Concert!! The ending split Into 14 parts!!

Battle Hymn of the Republic Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord; He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored; He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword; His truth is marching on. Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! His truth is marching on. I have seen Him in the watch-fires of a hundred circling camps; They have builded Him an altar in the evening dews and damps; I can read His righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps, His day is marching on. Glory glory... I have read His fiery gospel writ in rows of burnished steel! "As ye deal with my condemners, so with you My grace shall deal! Let the Hero, born of woman, crush the serpent with his heel, Since God is marching on. He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call retreat; He is sifting out the hearts of men before His judgment seat; Oh, be swift, my soul, to answer Him; be jubilant, my feet! Our God is marching on. In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea, With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me; As He died to make men holy, let us die to make men free! While God is marching on. Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! His truth is marching on.

I saw the Tabernacle Choir sing at the Disney Amphitheater in LA. for the first time and was blown away. Not only did they sing like a perfect machine of oneness, but It seemed almost as if there were extra angelic beings and even a extra glow emanating from the group. It was a spellbinding experience I’ll never forget.

Beautiful. We sang this rendition in high school, not at this level, but at least at a time in the 70s when you didn’t get a REEEEEEE from the left for singing a religious song in school. I miss those days.

By the lamps both dim and flaring. Permission to succeed from the Union is denied. For a nation divided can’t endure the storms of tumultuous times. More than 600,000 soldiers were lost in the terrible battles of this effort to keep the state’s unity in tact. “ we the people,, in order to form a more perfect union “

I got to sing the same, exact version while in my high school chorus in 1955 and we went to Toronto, Canada to perform before a live audience! It affected me greatly (the words AND the version) and every time I hear the Mormon Tabernacle Choir perform it my eyes tear up and it is all I can do to sing along with them! Thank you for sharing this video with us.
