My grandfather was an Etowah native and a WW2 tank destroyer officer, that returned home to find the very liberty he fought to save was hijacked in his own home town. He joined the ranks of these brave men in Athens to liberate the ballot boxes. I will forever be in debt for his bravery and example. Thanks for keeping this story alive. Don’t tread on me.

Interesting how the BFI of that era just brushed this case aside. Today, these veterans would be tried as domestic terrorists. Of course, there is no corruption or fraud in modern politics, especially the 2020 election. All is as pure as the wind driven snow. Thanks for putting together this video. History is full of fun stories and of good people standing up. It is important that an entire generation know and understand that both the good people and the bad people can win an election. My father and other family members were in Athens and Etowah at voting locations that day. Friends my father's age also told me stories of their activities that day. Some were arrested that day. I wish I'd of recorded their stories as they would talk to me. I have heard stores of election day abuse starting in 1936 at the Claxton, TN school where voting took place. There was a fight that day as the ballot box was attempted to be stolen by sheriff's deputies. They later reacted by closing down future voting at Claxton. There is more to that story at Claxton but I will not go into it right now. They were not radical men joining a militia with an agenda of overthrowing the government but average men that lived their lives in the County. They were farmers, teachers, Lawyers. Bankers from Athens (not bankers from Etowah). After the election the G I Party was abolished more or less. They represented both Republicans and Democrats. A neighboring family were democrats but didn't like dishonest government so they supported and voted for the G.I. Party that day. The Police Chief of Athens which was part of this "machine" left town on election day as did many others in that group.

I want to a presentation in Athens, TN in February 2024. The family of the late Paul Cantrell tried to make him not sound like the criminal he was during that time. It was disgusting . They tried to blame it all on others. The mans last official act as a public servant was standing in a room full of stolen ballets taken that day. When they try to defend him I have that image.

No, that was a detail included in the book as it was an identifiable style choice that Mr Lockmiller wore since being out in the Pacific. I carried it over to this video only because it was topical and a fun image. Back in editing I did a surface level check and found no connection between the two

The good honest citizens of McMinn County were not part of the Boolaloo boys and would not be. I knew lots of them from. They were not radicals with an agenda outside normal thinking
