Kings and Generals

6 жыл бұрын

The fall of the Western Roman Empire prompted a response from the Eastern Empire. Emperor Justinian was eager to restore Rome to its former glory, but he first needed to deal with the Sassanid Empire to the East. Iberian War of 526-532 gave him this chance, ashis new commander Belisarius showed his mettle and talent in the battle of Dara and other engagements.

In a sense, the Persianized Seljuks and their Ottoman successors could be thought of as Persians that conquered Greece again. I know that they are not native Iranians (far form it), its just history that is rhyming again, as Mark Twain would put it.

At that point, considering Seljuks as Persians would be like considering Iranians as Arabs. The conquest of Alexander kinda scared the Persians from attacking the greeks for a long time.

Major pitched battles? It's probably fewer than you may think. Dara, Ad Decimum, Tricameron (arguably beause John the Armenian could have been in charge) and his swansong battle. He lost Callinicum, Thannuris and the battle during the Siege of Rome. 4:3 isn't incredible but the reason we study Belisarius isn't for his tactical genius but his strategic genius - or his tragic character, if you're more into that!

You guys have created a new standard for documentaries. I've never seen such high quality productions as yours. Even better than Bazbattles! Still there are some things you can improve, I think: - The intro is epic but too long for such a short video. - It's hard to keep track of the generals when there are no names on display. A tiny label would be helpful. - The maps are beautiful, but sometimes fucked up. Perhaps you should cooperate with a map maker on KZbin? This is a very interesting topic, one that I feel haven't been covered enough in the popular history media. I would love to see Belisarius reconquer the western parts!

I really like your videos, but as an Iranian I would like to see a video on our victories once in a while. I mean even this video contained a lot of wins for the Sassanids, but you only explained the one incident that the Romans won. I went through your videos, and there was tens of videos on Persians loses against Greeks and then Romans and then Arabs and then Mongols and zero video on them winning. I would appriciate a few wins at least, to balance it up! Thanks.

My friend you really expect them to make such videos ??? With their minds fully brainwashed by the western media !!! Now I'm not defending anyone here but as far as western propaganda is concerned, I have to point out that *kings & generals* is one of the least biased history channels in all of KZbin. I'm not an Iranian but I do admire Iran's great civilization very much, when you self study and subsequently get freed from the western propaganda, you absolutely can't deny the greatness and influence of Iranian civilization and it's continuing civilization, culture and importance ; lol even today Iran is a relevant country in the world just like how it always was through the history of mankind. Love from an American (who has open eyes and mind) to all of you beautiful people of Iran.
