Generals Pettigrew and Trimble were wounded and Trimble was captured in the July 3 attack. Pettigrew was mortally wounded at Falling Waters and Trible spent the rest of the was as a prisoner.

"Livid was where Sheridan lived." was an accurate characterization of Sheridan. Sheridan never "got mad." He was always that way.

I visited this place after reading "Last Full Measure" . . . what an exhausting, amazing end to the year+ long siege of Petersburg/Richmond. 4 Union Divisions vs 5 (exhausted/depleted Confederate Brigades . . . . Sheridan was no McClellan and it was time for the Confederates to (finally) lose.

I'm from Dublin Ireland 🇮🇪 and I'll be in Gettysburg for my third time this September. If I had the money I'd go to see five forks too and get back to Montana and give my respects to where Captain Myles Keogh from Leighlinbridge died for the second time (even if I nearly got bitten by a rattle snake when I did that lol!!!) A descendant of mind was Private Thomas ONeill who escaped with Lt. De Rudio from the native Americans and got back to Reno and Benteens contingent (he's buried in Arlington cemetery and I'll be paying my respects to him).

This series is simply fabulous. Great detail woven into very clear narrative. Outstanding. So tragic that these battles occurred at all as the ultimate fate of the CSA was already sealed.

There are also some reasonably well-preserved ORIGINAL Confederate works just East of here on the south side of the White Oaks Road. Very accessible, and as it turned out not relevant to the 5 Forks Battle due to the flanking maneuver by Warren.

Sheridan’s temper and Grant’s dislike did Warren a bad turn. All of the reasons Sheridan gave for the dismissal were torn to shreds at the military inquiry...

Oddity. Custer takes part in the battle in the Petersburg campaign. His Seventh Cavalry nemesis, Capt. Frederick Benteen was born in Petersburg.

It is with great respect that I make comments on your channel. Warren was an obdurate and finely capable soldier difficulties between he and Sheridan began early with the wilderness where cavalry information and support were lacking, Meade also had his problems with Sheridan and Grant supported Sheridan by promoting Sherman and Sheridan first with Meade writing home he was number four. So there was sustained rancor between Sheridan and Warren and Meade began to fall in with Grant over this leaving Warren stranded. I also think that by late sixty four, let alone sixty five exhaustion and psychological cracks were showing on all sides. The immensity and unique situations they faced had to be effecting them as well as the Union having the necessity to train very new huge forces many of which were recalcitrant. Like Fitz John Porter, Warren was profoundly poorly treated.Again thank you for this great series

Warren had the unfortunate misfortune of being the only Union Army Corps Commander relieved for cause while in battle during the entire civil war. That includes both the western Union Armies and the eastern ones.

Don Carlos Buell fell victim to one at Perryville, Kentucky, an 1862 battle southeast of Louisville. Confederates did better tactically and suffered fewer casualties, but Bragg withdrew to Tennessee, so strategically it was a Union win. Like Warren, Buell faced an investigation for his conduct. Perryville's a fairly good state battlefield park.

Great video lecture, as usual. My 3rd Gr Uncle (3rd WV Cav) was WIA here under Custer's command. It is recorded that when when he died some years later, that he still had the mini ball in his hip. I've often wondered how he squared serving under Sheridan, and his participation in Sheridan's war criminal burning of his native Shenandoah Valley the previous summer.
