As a star wars nerd, I love that detail as well. Considering that AT-AT stands for All Terrain Armored Transport, it makes perfect sense to show it transporting troops into battle. It’s a shame none of the movies showed any of the vehicles’ intended uses other than just being glorified sci-fi tanks.

In the old arcade rail shooter, after the retreat is sounded you can do a couple strafing runs on snowtroopers sprinting to occupy the Rebel trenches, and there are also a few shots of them repelling out of the AT-ATs as you engage those. It's pretty cool and gives you a good feel of what a combined-arms assault actually looks like in Star Wars.

I like that the Adywan version tries to keep the other AT-ATs on screen in scenes where they weren't, but it also takes away from the blizzard vibes a bit. Also the AT-ST is a vehicle, not an actual living creature or robot, so seeing it look up and try to run away before getting crushed just looks really silly.

Not a fan of Adywan's change to the cloud and overhaul landscapes, some transitions between shots are a bit jarring, at 0:12 you go from a very foggy environnement with difficulty to see the mountains in the distance, to something much cleaner with blue skies and completely visible clouds, to foggy again

Nah. That scene ruins the whole point of this battle (and is most likely why it was left out). It's the Empire Strikes Back and this is their major victory. Having their ground forces including their commanding officer get mostly destroyed by the under-equipped rebels would downplay the power of the Empire which happens enough already. You have to have good/competent villains if you want to make the film interesting and actually make the audience believe the good guys are actually in danger

The AT-STs in this are unfortunately the wrong version. These are the "standard" AT-STs (from ROTJ), but in ESB, they had a special variant of the AT-ST only seen on Hoth. The main differences are: longer legs, different head shape, closed front flaps. Hopefully this will be corrected in future revisions

there will be no revisions, and the fix was making them look like the rotj ones, the ones used in esb were prototypes and only appeared in two shots or so, they would later be refined in rotj, so Adywan just used the final versions in this.

@1:25 was part of a deleted scene. C-3PO sees the warning label on the door to the left, goes over and rips off the label. Snow Troopers later find the door and open it. A Wampa hand reaches out, grabs a Trooper and yanks him inside. The others hurredly close the door. Vader approaches, asking, "Are there any Rebels in there?" A Trooper replies, "No, really, My Lord." Vader walks off.

You can tell that a lot of effort and work went into Adawyn's version but honestly, I prefer the original. Removing the blue tint makes it look more realistic but also more generic, and while the added background features are cool (the AT-ST's, the troops being deployed, the clear skies) I think it also distracts the audience from the actual subject of each shot. Still really well done regardless

I was really skeptical at first, but I don't actually mind the AT-STs; I was worried it would just be distracting but you did a great job of giving them presence and consequence to the scene by letting them provide cover to the AT-AT's, and having the downfall of the latter satisfyingly destroying the former. Well done. It was also clever to use the positioning of the AT-ATs and AT-STs to make the battlefield easier to read, and knowing where each shot is transporting the audience in relation to the last cut. It's now easy to see where Luke intervened in the fight and feel like a multi-facted story being told rather than a bunch of vaguely related battle scenes.

Most of the changes I think were great! The AT-STs, the generator explosion, the Snowtrooper deployment, all really cool. Definitely like the colour de-blue-ing too. The only one I'm not into is the AT-AT head explosion, the movement of the debris feels like it's at the wrong scale, and it's going in random directions. The head is like the size of a box truck or something, so the bits shouldn't be kinda lazily tumbling. The fireball itself looked better, but in my opinion it'd be better without the extra debris, and maybe more wrapped around the original debris instead of laid over it. Just my thoughts. Keep up the cool work!

I love it but just one thing, at 0:52 where the AT-AT fell on the AT-ST, where did the other AT-ST suddenly come from? Bit of a continuity error there

The added details I like are the AT-ST shooting down a speeder and the AT-AT with the side doors opened up for the debarking troops.

Is the bottom image from the 4K release? In terms of pic quality where the snow looks like snow and not with the blue tint.

I like how the Adywan version makes more sense in terms of continuity between shots. Especially with the appearance and position of the AT-ST.

Adywan’s additions are small but they add a lot of depth to the scene. I love the at-st getting crushed by the at-at.

The Adywan one is better you got the feeling it’s a full scale invasion but in the blu-ray one you don’t get that feeling
