On a fine point, Aegir seems to render the snare drum attack (leading transient dynamics) more accurately. I’ve played drums for a few decades and collect and tune snare drums, so I think I have a decent reference point. Thank you for the sound samples! 💜

Purchased the Aegir 2 about a month ago based on your review and another. Run it with my LTA MZ3 Headphone amp in pre-amp mode…..wow….defined, but rich midrange with good bass control. Was looking for that class A sound and it delivers. They drive my little Dali Minuet SE Speakers just fine. Topping sounds very nice…..As always, I think ancillary gear will play into the equation and both are great buys. Nice review as always. 😊

At the moment im burning out my new Muzishare x7 which ive decided to buy after watching your review... probability nex one will be X9 . Love there sound. B200 for me and in China its 20% cheaper while the Schitt is 30% more , so its a no brainer , also its more neutral and micro details n more powerful

Nice test. Of course Class A and Tube amps are more pure, real and analog. But works best without nasty impedance behaviour of the speakers. All other type amps are more artificial processing amps and so are more artificial and plastic clinking.

I will try the toppings because I always look for a tweak to my cabin, summer house or even desktop system as the V3 mono just doesn't cut it and I don't want a full size system there

Both the DAC and amplifier must have a high S/N ratio to express their performance well. Even if only one of the DAC or amplifier has a low S/N ratio, it will be adjusted to that low S/N ratio.

Have you thought of using them in a bi-amping setup!? On paper, the B200's gain in high mode is the same as in the Aegir. Also, the B200 seems to control the bass better while the Aegir's soundstage might be broader and richer. They could compliment very well in a biamping setup... Anyways, it might be an interesting experiment

@@Tharbamar After a little research, you are definitely right. My woofers are wired in parallel for a 4 ohm load. The Aegir in mono block configuration is 100 watt into 8 ohms. No rating for 4 ohms. The B200s are rated at 200 watts in 8 and 4 ohms. So the B200s have twice the power (I was looking to 200-300 watts) and rated for the load my woofers have. Done deal.

Amplifiers with a high S/N ratio, such as the Topping B200, require a DAC with a higher S/N ratio to achieve sufficient performance. I recommend Topping E70(for DAC and preamplifier) because it has an extremely low THD that is somewhat equivalent to a high S/N ratio in the 200Hz-2kHz range.

@@LexusAllTerrain1 Since I have the b20 bt pro2, the first V3 and the mono's i can start by saying it's not because I don't know what I'm talking about... Now let's move on with the history of being an audiophile over somewhat 35+ years with equipment in different price ranges and always looking for value for money. The V3 lacks depth, soundstage, low end and details all over. The mid range is sterile and unnatural. I doubt you want to hear this, but my old Cambridge Audio 640 Azur in my parents house with a decent streamer, Gheshelli J2 akam dac on a good pair of monitors, outperform them in any sound related aspects as well as power, so hard it's not funny. Google the date on that thing. Now vs actually good gear the difference is so big it's not funny. To make the V3 decent you really need better op amps. At this point it's already fighting vs decent low end integrated like Yamaha. Next that Yamaha comes with a okey pre, a dac and it will sound better. Adding all that suddenly the V3 fights vs decent integrated in low mid. At this point you wasted your money and that's how this story goes. Now what it does well is for a small size desktop system. I can say that something like the Tangent power ampster 2 in mono really outperforms it and if you op amp roll that's a better way to go.

The old magazines were also a part of that, but less crazy than current days. With that said getting the Fosi V3, wiim ultra, decent monitors and a sub might bring you more audiophile joy then what was around before and I really think it's a great time for audiophiles 😉.
