The scene where Jon, after being trampled and caught in that claustrophobic pile of people, climbed and struggled his way to the top, and the overhead shot of him emerging from the mass of people with the rings and rings of soldiers around him, always felt to me like a very dark callback to the closing scene of "Mhysa" when the freed slaves of Mereen carried Dany on their shoulders and the camera pulled back to show her surrounded by the rings of people.

Most reactors wanted Rickon to zigzag. But that's silly. Ramsey is a skilled hunter. Animals rarely run in a straight line. Also he knew Rickon's destination. He just had to wait for him to get close to Jon. Rickon's only hope was to get to Jon as quickly as possible. And the shortest distance between two points is a straight line. There is a scene in the HBO miniseries Generation Kill that demonstrates how zigzagging is futile.

Sansa say's Jon doesn't know what Ramsay can do and she's right. But Jon also fought at Hardhome. He was there when the Night King raised all the dead. That's where Jon's perspective is coming from. He mentions the Wildlings/Free Folk, but we all know what he really wanted to say. Both of them are not being completely honest with each other. They have been burned in the past. They are like most people now where you have to earn their trust. They all are not that "honorable" to a fault like their father. They know where that leads you now.

I think it was this episode, where I felt Glad for Sansa , then started disliking her more than when she was a child. IMO , she does as much manipulating of people to get what she wants but with more subtlety than Cersai from this moment on until the end. She very easily could've told Jon that she was going to write Littlefinger to ask for the Vale's help and they could've kept The Vale in reserve - without Ransey knowing. Instead, she lets how many people die without even mentioning the possibility. (SHE now has won the battle - not Jon). Many people say the opposite about How Sansa has "grown up" and matured, but I just see many instances of her manipulating people and if something happens that doesn't lead to what she wants, she turns into Cersai.

The Vale is not the reserve army. They are the main force. LF and Sansa win the battle. Jon's army is just a decoy to lure Ramsey out. The viewer is tricked into thinking Jon's army is the most important force but that is just a ruse to trick Ramsey.

I always thought that pretty clearly was Bolton referring to the fact that our pasts, our journeys, both the good things and ESPECIALLY the bad things shape us in the present and inform our actions in the future; they quite literally become "part of us". Bolton is a psychopath, he derives the greatest pleasure from not just physical torture but, ESPECIALLY from the psychological torture, as we saw with Riccon/John and as Santa knows, so he quite clearly was attempting to get under her skin by reminding her that her physical and emotional and mental scars are from him and she will never be able to forget him.

This is the episode that I started questioning if Sansa really loves Jon. I still don’t understand why she wouldn’t tell Jon about Littlefinger and The Knights of the Vale. Why argue with Jon, before the battle mind you, about not having enough men when she possibly had the Vale in her pocket? They pleaded with all of the houses so she knew that was all the men they could get. It made zero sense for Sansa to keep that vital info from him, who is the one who has to fight. Sansa could have told Jon, be safe, I’m going to get help. Anyway, Jon proved a better brother to her then she was a sister to him. He allowed Sansa to have that Ramsey kill. She had no idea that he hadn’t fed his dogs in 7 days. She left before Ramsey told them that so obviously it was Jon who told Sansa.
@Oliver-es6qv20 күн бұрын
Exactly brother. I'm still amazed how someone can just let their brother be dead without having any hopes to rescue. Atleast Jon is good at heart and cares for his family even after not being born in their family. Sansa is crazy and just thought about winning without caring about anything else. That is why Jon was a true King, bcoz he cared for everyone and wanted to save even one life if he can.
@jimmyyves792420 күн бұрын
Exactly, and that is the reason why I don't think this is the best episode. It just does not make sense. But I think Rickon would probably die anyways even if the Vale was there early. Ramsay would have devised some other evil plan.
@gunkulator120 күн бұрын
She doesn't tell Jon so that her plan with LF didn't leak. The one and only reason Ramsey abandons his superior position behind the walls of Winterfell is that he believes he has an easy victory against Jon. Jon behaves exactly like a desperately outnumbered commander because that is what he truly believes. If Ramsey catches one whiff of deception, he marches back to Winterfell and wins by default. Jon and his troops are just the decoy in this battle. The Vale wins it but the decoys need to play their part convincingly. Sansa argues with Jon so that he admits they can't win - loudly. Did you not wonder how Ramsey knew the size and make up of Jon's troops at the parley? He had spies in Jon's camp just like he did with Stannis. Sansa is feeding those spies misinformation so that Ramsey is persuaded to come out to fight.
@Victoria-kv9oz20 күн бұрын
@ That is not why Sansa didn’t tell Jon about the army. Not one episode after battle of the bastards stated that was her reasoning, and Jon never admitted they couldn’t win. He told her battles have been won against greater odds. Anyway, the next episode sheds a little light.
@gunkulator120 күн бұрын

Sansa with held vital information from Jon that she requested help from Little finger. That non action of hers contributed to many deaths of the Free Folk and others serving under Jon. If she had told Jon they would have delayed the battle until getting a response from the Little finger. Was this her plan to gain power of the North? Hmmm.
@gunkulator116 күн бұрын
Think it through. If they wait for the Vale, Ramsey does not come out to fight at all and wins by default. Cavalry is useless in a siege and Jon has no siege engines. The plan required Ramsey to be fooled into thinking he had an easy victory.
@jeh5816 күн бұрын
@@gunkulator1 She should have informed Jon. He was the one in command and you can not command well if some one from your team is with holding vital information. You have to ask yourself why she withheld the information? The only logical reason is to strengthen her claim later. The only way it would have work out better for Sansa is if Jon would have died in the battle before Little finger arrived. BTW, I do have 20 years serving in the US Army as my background.

@@jeh58 No, Sansa and LF were in command, not Jon. The Vale wins the battle, not the wildlings. The wildings are just decoy troops. I already told you why Sansa didn't tell Jon: to lure Ramsey out.
@jeh5811 күн бұрын
@@gunkulator1 Jon was the commander, that is why he was doing the plan in the tent the nigh prior with all of the leaders, Sansa wasn't. She was asking Jon to wait, not commanding. So if you are suggesting she was doing her own thing with Little finger, then yes. However then you are suggesting she was fine with sacrificing both of her brothers. Which then would make her kinda of evil, like Cersi, in order for her to rule the North. There were more to the unit then just Wildlings. So according to you, Sansa was running her own game with Little Finger. That would make her evil. Jon was the commander though, all of the leaders and troops were following him.
@gunkulator111 күн бұрын
@@jeh58 Yes, Sansa is willing to sacrifice both brothers. In return the north is no longer ruled by the sadistic Ramsey Bolton. It is by far the lesser of two evils. These are the tough decisions leaders have to face. When push came to shove, neither Jon nor Ned were able to do this. Ned had his chance to spare the realm of the evil Joffrey by shouting out the truth to all. He demurred and tells a lie for the sake of his two daughters and the whole realm suffered because of it. Jon throws away his battle plans and falls for Ramsey's trap with Rickon, and in return dooms hundreds of his soldiers - another terrible decision for the sake of just one person. Along the same lines, LF and Sansa made the battle plan that allowed for a victory. In return, some of Jon's troops and perhaps Jon himself would have to die as decoys. Jon's plan had no possibility for victory. He was outnumbered two to one with almost no cavalry. It would have cost the lives of every one of his men. Which plan was less evil? The viewer is tricked along with Ramsey into thinking Jon's troops are the main fighting force because that's the only army we see. They are not. The knights of the Vale are the real army. LF and Sansa meet up and plan this, although we do not see the details of the plan. It is only revealed in this episode that she had been working with LF all along.

I know everyone gives Sansa grief for not telling Jon so he would wait but she was not sure to trust Littlefinger until he actually showed up. Also Littlefinger probably waited until he thought Jon was done. Also the look Sansa gave Jon as he was beating on Ramsey wasn't one of "I can't believe Jon is so cruel" but " I can't believe Jon would deny me the pleasure"

One thing I noticed in this episode this time around, was the Sansa says "you're going to die tomorrow Lord Bolton, sleep well" and then rides off. Right after that Ramsey tells Jon and the rest of the people there that he hasn't fed his dogs in 7 days. But in the closing scene, as Sansa is releasing the dogs on Ramsey, she says "you haven't fed your dogs in 7 days you said so yourself".... Except how the hell did she know that because she wasn't there when he said that!

@@Ottawajames I always imagined it was Jon that put Ramsey in with the hounds since Sansa asked Jon where he was in the scene before. From there we can infer that he told her what Ramsey said. If it was Jon's idea then it certainly tarnishes Jon's shining image but I'm ok with that

Tyron accused Theon of mocking him and making jokes at his expense the last time they met, at Winterfell. But it's not only untrue, it was the complete opposite of what actually happened; it was Tyrion who was mocking Theon about his ststus at Winterfell as a hostage as much as a ward, and one who stood to be executed in the event his father ever rebelled again.

I hate Sansa in this episode......she could have told Jon about the knights of the Vale, and she didn't. And no explanation as to why she didn't tell him, either. No throw away line like "I didn't tell you because I didn't know for sure that Petyr would come.". Or something of the like. As for the episode, she simply allowed Jon's men to go in and get slaughter, just so she could be seen as the hero who saved Jon's attempt

Exactly. Sansa just wanted to take credits at the end and moreover she wanted to be the so called "QUEEN" of the North. I didn't like her at all. In initial seasons she was a pain in the A$$ and in final seasons she was a cunning character with the oversmart looks and mind like Baelish and Cersie

@@gunkulator1 No way to besiege Winterfell? Littlefinger literally has the entire army of the Vale behind him.
