Was lucky to see Rebecca Laird and Cari Q play live in Edinburgh, Scotland, June 2017 and they weren't playing blues, but Cari's compositions. Rebecca was fantastic on guitar without all the baggage that comes with Blues music.

As a competitor in this past competition and having been there when she placed, they base it on originality, creativity, audience response, presence, etc. You can be the best SRV knock off in the world, but that's not going to get you a win. You need to be fresh, have your own style or twist, and relate to the audience. Rebecca is a home town favorite and has been competing in this competition for years and she learned from each time she competed and capitalized on it. Listen and learn.

She sounds really good and I hope she manages to keep playing and growing. It still amazes me that even digitally transferred and compressed for KZbin that all-tube amps and great speakers still shine through though she would sound at least decent through just about anything - not overly intellectual but not hyped up passion either, and certainly not locked into mere chops. She is a guitar player but she is more importantly a musician.
